Huge thanks to both Shanise Gibson and Vonecia Carswell for collaborating with Fashion Nexus on this post thru the sharing of some gorgeous images for these runway presentations. Shanise is an aspiring freelance photographer, born in Brooklyn, New York. Known for her constant love of being a “Free Spirit” & never passing by the word “Free” itself, she has taken in all knowledge given to her to soon make a name for herself in the world of photography. Vonecia is a multimedia journalist and photographer, from Florida, who has a passion for human interest stories.

So more on FWB, Night 1. Let’s see, there was high school student designers, kid designers, childrenswear, and even couture doggywear, which actually came down the runway on a separate night. You can check out more on Night 1 here, but so once again, these runway shows were all about eco-fashion. The various looks were eco-friendly, highly innovative. I have to say one aspect of the night that was truly fascinating was the level of talent with the 2 high schools presenting. So first up, let’s take a look at High School of Fashion Industries’ presentation.

DSC_5947

I mean WOW! The level of talent here is just astounding. I was utterly impressed and captivated throughout the presentation, whether it was by this mesmerizing hooded white tulle gown with pearl embellishments or this full on feminine & flirty red flare skirt.

DSC_5898

The pieces were all so well made, having a great luxe quality. I adored the various blouses with an olive green collar with a nude print around both shoulders. The prints made for such a delicate and ladylike quality that I really gravitated towards.

DSC_5891

The looks did have such a soft, easy-going quality, but nonetheless still exuded strength and confidence. The young talent that designed these looks are sure to be names we hear from in the future. Great job High School of Fashion Industries!!

DSC_5918

Next up, another talented bunch of high school design students at William H. Maxwell HS.

DSC_5743

So for Maxwell High students, rain or at least a bit of wetness was on their mind. There were clear vinyl & plastic cover-ups and basic black one-pieces. It was great seeing a clear vision across a great number of silhouettes, such as hooded pieces to high-neckline looks. Some of the numbers were embellished along the edges, while others had a scaled print, likely screen-printed on the clear cover-up.

DSC_5714

Each look was clearly part of the collection, the overall story, but still had it’s own unique detailing, such as this clever embellished pocket detail below.

DSC_5660

This was a full on show and completing the runway presentation was even the necessary & needed clear umbrella!

DSC_5684

If it wasn’t amazing enough as it was to see such young talent in high school aged students, the good news kept coming with even younger talent in that of young children creating kidswear pieces. So first up, let’s take a look at Spoke the Hub by City Kid Camp, Brooklyn Fashionistas Kids Camp.

These young tykes did such a great job showcasing their burgeoning talent. They really put on an exciting show and you just couldn’t help but smile!

DSC_5629

It’s such a pleasure seeing young minds find a love, a passion, early on, and it’s great that they have a place to develop that talent.

DSC_5636

Another talented bunch of young kids, Yadestiny Treasure Chest with Fit for Fashion.

DSC_5782

These kids did such a great job repurposing, recycling looks to create some fun fashionable pieces for the runway!

DSC_5789

The kids were grinning from ear to ear, as was the audience. And how could one not be smiling from seeing a job well done in what these children had created.

DSC_5775

There were a lot of fun colors, making each piece filled with such delight and zeal. I could very much imagine these kids rockin’ their looks while at school or for a fun Saturday afternoon out.

DSC_5801

Next up Anthony Rubio Designs with Canine Couture, as well as a women’s wear collection that coordinates with those created for the canines, and his men’s tie line he named Naughty Ties.

IMG_2026

Nearly 10 years have gone by, Mr. Rubio is the most accomplished pet designer on the scene. Anthony Rubio has come full circle by creating fashion for dogs and once again for women. And these are some truly stunning and exquisite pieces, for both the ladies & the pups!

IMG_1968

Anthony Rubio is not just about couture fashion with his pieces, but he has an affinity for animals, and for years has been very involved in educating the world about the benefits of pet adoption, control of pet population and pet rescue. Proceeds from the sales of his creations are donated to various animal rescue organizations to help keep these animals from being put down.

IMG_2003

In his show Anthony included two special rescues to model couture. The rescues, a Shih-Tzu named Maya and a Chihuahua named Templeton, were brought in by the New York Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a non-profit animal welfare organization that works with over 150 rescue groups and shelters to find homes for New York City’s homeless dogs and cats.

IMG_2010

At the end of his show, Anthony presented a personal donation to Stephanie Mattera from the New York Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, who was there representing the organization. During his speech, Anthony stated, “While I mesmerized the audience with my creations I want to educate them about the importance to adopt and not shop for their next pet”.

IMG_2050

There were looks for doggies of all sizes, small to medium to even very large dogs!

FWB, Night 1, Kicks off with a Bang!

Huge thanks to Shanise Gibson for collaborating with Fashion Nexus on this post, and sharing her amazingly stunning images from FWB! Shanise Gibson is a aspiring freelance photographer born in Brooklyn, New York. Known her constant love of being a “Free Spirit” & never passing by the word “Free” it self, she has taken in all knowledge given to her to soon make a name for herself in the world of photography.

Night 1 for Fashion Week Brooklyn, simply put, there was no better way to kick off this multi-day event of runway shows! There was so much going on, so much to take in. You could not have walked away disappointed. This 1st night was all about eco-fashion. The various looks were eco-friendly, highly innovative. There was a little something for everyone, the ladies, the gents, and even the kids! In fact, several designers were actually kids or teenagers. I will cover those young talents in a separate post, but for now let’s focus on some stunning pieces that graced the runway at Industry City, home of FWB! First up, a designer who is all about the volume, high fashion couture, Tom of Sohung Designs!

DSC_6484

These pieces are highly original & one of a kind. They are hand-made right in NY! While creating some very fashionable pieces for women, he also puts out menswear looks too.

DSC_6383

The pieces are certainly eye-catching. The play on volume & draping is effortlessly and elegantly done.

DSC_6450

I love the balance and interplay between hard and soft elements. The end result is a strong, statement-making look.

DSC_6360

This is a great showing for Sohung Designs. What’s been created here is stunningly unique. It’s quite fitting to grace the red carpet or formal affair.

DSC_6469

Switching from high fashion looks of bold red carpet style, let’s check out some other great looks, but of a more understated nature – Lisbeth Lovbak Berg of Norway. The brand’s aesthetic is based on the idea of conceptual ecology and has a clear vision of slow fashion, with focus on high quality tailoring and an ecological and ethical message.

DSC_6306

“One topic that reappears in my work is the question of how we see clothing.  I find the link between the habitat and clothing, (habit, in French) particularly intriguing. Clothing is in in the most basic sense something to cover and protect us from the outside environment; this is the same basic quality as that of a house. Yet the durability that one associates with a house strongly contrasts the ephemeral aspects of clothing and fashion. ”

Berg makes use of a great print here – basic neutral solid backdrops with cranes. It’s utilized well across several styles and silhouettes, and is hand silk screen printed on organic cotton and bamboo.

DSC_6319

“The CONSTRUCTION spring/summer collection is inspired by appearance as a construction, how we construct our image through clothing and how this image is only one piece in the puzzle that is who you are.”

Some of the pieces combine this subtle print with a tougher piece of outerwear, a denim embellished vest, use of recycled denim.

DSC_6347

Berg’s use of color is also great here. There is a lot of white and neutrals in that of pale blue, but there is a great pop of color with that of soft peach. This is a great showing lovely, yet simplistically minimal.

DSC_6276

Softer, more delicate presentations are great to watch and certainly can leave a lasting imprint. But sometimes the effect is a bit more in your face. With Repurposed/Reused, the looks are bold and dramatic. They knew how to put on a SHOW, drama & all!

DSC_6241

There were looks for both women and men, basics in solids to louder pieces with dynamic prints.

DSC_6131

This was a strong showing, very tough, hard looks that promoted strength and confidence from within the wearer.

DSC_6201

The looks were all so well thought out, from head to toe. The styling was spot on and Repurposed didn’t disappoint.

DSC_6161

There was so much versatility and lots to chose from, dresses to separates.

DSC_6223

These varying streetwear looks for this S/S 2015 collection also have an underlying military inspiration, tribute to veterans.

1907842_723261894421629_4002963403273158715_n

Repurposed/Reused was clearly inspired and there were many other inspiration-filled collections for Night 1 of FWB, such as Iliana Quander, and her culturally inspired and diverse collection for S/S 2015.

Iliana’s looks are bold, statement-making, very unique, one-of-a-kind.

DSC_6042

There are also very dynamic and eye-catching looks for the gents as well!

DSC_5997

And topping off the “something for everyone” collection, Iliana also offers something for the youngins’! Must give props to this little tyke, she knew how to work the runway! And if I’m not mistaken, I think it was Iliana’s daughter??

DSC_6022

This collection was so dynamic, very versatile. There was a great interplay with softer looks, such as with delicate flowers.

DSC_6013

The softer side was juxtaposed nicely with stronger, more confident looks with that of structure and leather pieces. This was a stunning presentation, job well done!

DSC_5977

Last up for this first post on FWB is Bridgett Artise for Born Again Vintage, with some truly modern twists on classic styles!

DSC_5880

These pieces will for sure leave your mind to wonder! They are so amazing, stunningly eye-catching, with lots of intricacies to keep your attention!

DSC_5841

Bridgett is all about being vintage, creating sustainable fashion. She pulls clothing from second-hand stores in order to deliver unique pieces, thus finding her passion with vintage!

DSC_5830

As Bridgett perfectly describes, this is upcycling, not recycling! There is such a contemporary, hip, chic vibe to the various looks.

DSC_5870

The looks are so cool, so different, any fashionista would be set in wearing any of these looks!

Project Runway, Definitely a SMH Kind of Season!

I wanted to opt for a cutesy or cliche title this week, like “Project Runway Meets Storage Wars”, or something like that. But by episode’s end, I just couldn’t. I’ve been livid & frustrated with this season since episode 1. There has been a lot of discussion about the season being more about the drama than the fashion. It’s been clear to me that the focus was more production-oriented than on the designers and their talent. So as a result of this, forgive me then if my recap is more focused on the edited drama we get to see! Also be warned, this vent-session, my soapbox, has only just begun as I’m still SMH!

a-soapbox

But before getting to all of that, let’s set the backdrop and see what the designers had in store for their challenge this week. The designers woke up to a surprise Samsung tablet, watching Heidi teasing a bit with the challenge details. She was saying the key was to unlock creativity and imagination. The group was then off to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to meet Tim to find out more details They enter a huge warehouse and see Tim standing in front of 5 storage bins, the mind being left to wonder….

Screen shot 2014-10-04 at 2.08.58 PM

This was going to be another team challenge, pairings being Kini/Amanda, Char/Sean, & Korina/Emily. Each team was given $500 in order to bid on the various storage units. Other specifics, 2 day challenge, 2 looks, which had to be cohesive. Emily & Korina picked up 2 bins, the first for only a whopping $25! They would be able to make use of some upholstery from furniture and another bin, which had a variety of pieces, including an old wedding dress. Char & Sean also lucked out with 2 units, one that seemingly only had a long blue tablecloth and a couple of dressers. This left Amanda & Kini with sadly only 1 unit, not filled with really any fabric, just a bunch of kids’ toys and all things perfectly fitting for a playroom.

consix

The designers were left with only 30 minutes to collect what they could use for their looks. Later, it was learned that the winner of the challenge would win a full year’s supply of hair care products & styling, all courtesy of Philip B. hair. The teams were off to work for Day 1 of this 2-day challenge. Kini and Amanda were very in sync, having a lot of fun popping soccer balls & what not! Emily & Korina also were working well, agreeing on their vision. It was Sean & Char who were having a little difficulty early on, Sean being worried about what Char was going to be able to accomplish on her own.

pr13-ep11-episode7

Day 2 began with a early Tim visit. The designers knew something was up! And of course, it was. He dropped the surprise that each team would be responsible for another cohesive look. In knowing they might need some fabric, a Mood trip was in order with a $100 budget. As both team members didn’t have to go, Sean, Amanda, & Korina decided to make the trip for their teams. Tim time came later in the day. He was not so sure about Emily’s use of a chair cushion as he thought it was clear it was in fact a cushion. He also had some doubts about Char’s look. But it was Amanda & Kini’s looks that Tim was most concerned with. He thought, wow, is this for a teenage hooker?!?

pr13-ep11-episode1

This left Amanda & Kini to rework a lot within their collection, and they did just that. I was vastly impressed by the turnaround so I give major props to them! Enough with the background, let’s get to this heated & tension-filled runway! This week’s guest judge was former PR winner, a huge success story from this show, probably one of the most successful, if not the most, yes, none other than Christian Siriano!

pr13-ep11-episode32

Let’s discuss first, the easiest pairing of the week, the designers who were in no danger of going home, the clear winning group — Kini & Amanda. This pair had the least amount to work with in their bins. They also had the least amount of fabric or even fabric-like items to choose from. They then suffered a harsh critique from Tim. All of this aside, they still managed to deliver a vibrant, colorful, creative, and fresh mini-collection.

-project-runway--7sea

**Side note, loved the Aldo jewelry here, perfectly coordinating jeweled bracelet & earcuffs. The 2 really worked well as a pair. Their pieces had a great story. With what little they had, they made it all work so well and really presented some strong pieces. This is their combined look above, Kini w/ the black full skirt and Amanda with the graphic top.

-projec8t-runway--sea

Above is Kini’s solo look. I’m actually not a fan of the look with the jacket. But hey, as you will see me say again later, if you don’t like a jacket just take it off! But the dress, made of soccer balls, was quite spectacular. I get the judges love-fest over it, but for me, this piece wasn’t so cohesive with the other looks, but standing alone, it was fine. I’m not sure the winner here was so clear-cut, but I’m happy for Kini and another win for him!

-project-6runway--sea

But Amanda for sure deserves some kudos as well. She was the lead on wanting this unit because of a psychedelic yetti painting. She created some great pieces for the runway and I loved both of her tops this week. Also, more shout-outs, love the many bangles from Aldo, the luscious curly waves from Philip. B. hair, & bold make-up look by Mary Kay, the cat-eye, slightly red lip.

pr13-ep11-episode24

Discussing everyone else is not quite as easy since the judges strayed from their traditional norm of a top, safe, & bottom group this week. It’s happened before, but whenever PR doesn’t stick to its traditional norms, I’m left to question why & SMH. PR is known for team challenges. Heck, they even had a full season dedicated to just working in teams. We’ve seen time and time again that a given team might have a weaker designer, but because the team had a higher score, that team was safe. The clear bottom team this week should have been Char & Sean, so again, with this not happening, just picking a bottom team, I do wonder why! It would have been so surprising were the bottom group to have been Emily & Korina over Char/Sean.

-project-runw7ay--sea

There was a lot to take in with these 3 pieces, a great deal going on, but it actually works! If you don’t like a cape or jacket, again, take it off. Guess what, there is still something  under that is creative and wearable. Many of these looks could be mixed & matched, very versatile. Who wouldn’t want a mini-collection with some options. In fact, having only 3 looks, for me, wouldn’t be enough at this point. So with this pairing, and even with Amanda/Kini, the outerwear could come off or be paired with another look. This combo look above of Emily & Korina I thought was great for their story. You could see it in any colder weather area, NYC, London, Paris, and more! Nina clearly had something up her butt with this collection and I’m not sure why. I question her take on fashion that she can’t separate the higher level of creativity and practicality in this collection versus that of Sean & Char. And Korina’s leather leggings here were great!

Shout-outs also to the chic updo by Philip B. hair & the Aldo accessories, boots & yes, even the hats! This is a runway show, give us a little drama and that means if you can amp it up with beauty accessories, do so! And again, questioning Nina, what was wrong with the red lip here, but it was okay the darker, somewhat red lip with Amanda & Kini?? The Mary Kay beauty look was great, less dramatic eye paired with a bold red lip works for me!

-project-runway-8-sea

The judges have been so illogical and wonky with their critiques and resulting decision-making this season. I’ll get to that more later, but Emily was very much deserving of safety this week. I agreed with Tim earlier on, worried about the shoulders, but on the actual model, the issue didn’t seem as apparent. This was a great outerwear look, paired perfectly with fashionable, chic separates. I’m still not sure why this outerwear piece was so well received, but not the others in this collection. I guess that is just one of the many questions I’m left with after this episode.

pr13-ep11-episode23

So again, I feel very sure and fine in saying Sean & Char should have been in the bottom this week. I in no way felt Sean should have gone, which means, yes, Char would have been out of the two. What bothers me about this 1 hour “Save Me” Challenge, which we’ve seen on PR before, is that I don’t think we would have seen it had the judges just picked a bottom group, which is what they should have done. And yes, the judges loved Sean’s jacket, but he was also responsible for the not so impressive sheer mesh looks, and has fluctuated between the top & bottom all season. But again, I don’t think this 1-hour challenge would have happened between Sean & Char, and I think it was very much unfair to force it upon Korina & Char.

And were these 3 looks not too similar?? We all remember an earlier challenge this season where Hernan, Carrie, & Sandhya were slammed for creating 3 similar looks, hmmmm, and this wasn’t almost the same thing! Another reason, leaving me SMH!

pr13-rr-ep2-cs-f      pr13-rr-ep2-sg-f

-pro2ject-runway--sea

In looking at one of Sean’s solo looks, I’m still just SMH as to how the judges just didn’t pick a bottom group. Think back to the fact that this pairing won 2 storage units, one of which Sean dubbed as the best of the bunch. There seemingly bare unit, in fact, ended up having more than what met the eye. Poor Alexander was eliminated last week, in part, because he had 2 days, a decent budget, and the judges weren’t impressed. Where was that train of thought for this group of pieces. I just don’t think there was enough here to justify 2 days worth of work. And yes, you could say fashion is not all about bells & whistles, sometimes more minimal looks work. But this is not simplicity at it’s best! And models not being able to walk down the runway, or at least struggling a great deal, really?? This isn’t enough to justify the judges being able to clearly distinguish between a safe group & a bottom one!! Come on Project Runway producers, if you are at least going to show your heavy hand, be a bit more discrete about it!

-project-runw3ay--sea

So as much as I am coming down on Sean & Char’s team, I do think Sean shouldn’t have gone home this week. Had Char’s one piece been a knockout, then it could justify sending Sean home since his lampshade gown was not great. But the judges gushed over his blue jacket so really, he would have never gone home over the 2. I’m not sure why there is so much love over this jacket. It’s not one of Sean’s stronger pieces for me.

-project-runwa4y--sea

Going back to Korina’s solo look, I again feel shout-outs are justified for another chic updo by Philip B. hair & the Aldo accessories, namely here, YES, the hat! But looking at the entire look, I don’t think, again, that the Korina/Emily pairing should have been the bottom group. And the groups & resulting elimination should have been judged as a whole team. But clearly the judges wanted to sing a different tune for some reason this week, and they singled out one designer from I guess 2 bottom teams — Korina & Char. I think back to bottom looks of PR seasons past and I’m not sure why this look would be in that realm. I’m not sure what was up with Nina this week because it was only her coming down so harshly on Korina. If the you don’t like the cape, fine, take it off, the look is still great. And Korina works with a signature Southwestern, cultural vibe. That is her aesthetic, one of her signatures. When all of a sudden on PR is it not okay to be who you are a designer. Amanda’s aesthetic is very boho-chic, 70’s throwback, and the judges don’t feel the need to chime in for her continued use of that signature; so why Korina?? Still SMH!

-project-2runway--sea

The 1-hour challenge I would give to Char. But I don’t think that was even needed. Comparing Char’s original challenge look to Korina, Char should have been eliminated. The reason I question the 1-hour challenge is unfortunately based off of Char being in the bottom 2. I’m not sure that she reads my blogs, so I mean no disrespect to her as a designer, but this is a competition show, and one must go home each week. I think PR should not continuously save someone. No designer should have that many chances and Char has had a few this season. Tim saved her. The Tim Gunn save is fine in my book, but at that point, why the judges would feel the need to offer her another chance, I mean really?? It makes no sense! Last week, with the whole Zippergate issue, Tim sort of stepped in to save her again. The judges might have had a whole different mindset looking at Char’s look come down the runway with a busted zipper. Another issue I had with the Char/Korina face-off is that in every other group, each designer had a solo look and took part in a combo look, all except Char.

So as much as I disagree with the 2nd twist this week, Korina & Char were then forced to face-off in a 1-hour “Save Me” challenge. Each lady had 1 hour to create a look of their choosing. They were to use the remaining fabrics leftover in the workroom. Also, they could make use of their partner from this week. Korina clearly let frustration takeover and she bit off more than she could chew.

Korina clearly was throwing some shade & an attitude, but I’m sorry, it was understandable in my book. Go back thru my comments for this episode, the judges stray off course, were not making any sense with their comments, and then have you to face off against a designer who has been given like 9 lives in the competition. I’d be pissed too!

-project-runway--sea

Char’s 1-hour look was way better, but had the judges not played a bit of the favorite game, we wouldn’t have seen this look. I’ve mentioned my mind being left to wonder all throughout my post and here is what I think. Char & Emily have yet to win a challenge, whereas Korina has won twice. She could have been the dark horse to make it to the finale. I think the powers that be really want it to be Amanda, Kini, & Sean in the finale. I don’t have a problem with this, but at least let it happen fairly, naturally. Emily & Char, I wish y’all the best of luck in breaking thru this force-field, but basically reiterating what Sean said, I think it might be easier now to make one’s way to the finale facing off against Char. If the designers are saying it, again, it makes me wonder if someone else wanted things to go this way as well!

-project-runwa5y--sea

And yup, you got it, still SMH! This is a major Shame, shame for me with PR this week!

Kia Vonvega for S/S 2015 – Vivacious Looks w/ Vibrant Colors

10690356_10152443569859001_6270509093264540721_n

Kia Vonvega, of Clear Boutique, debuted her Spring/Summer 2015 fashion week collection a few days ago at the hip lounge/bar LQ NYC. Needless to say, she debuted with a bang as pieces were brimming with energy, color, and allure.

LQ in NYC — 511 Lexington Ave.

There were 25 models that strutted down the runway, exuding such confidence and attitude. But how could one not in such bold, provocative looks! The collection included sexy silhouettes in various forms – swimwear, jumpsuits, bodycon dresses, streetwear, semi-formal looks, & more!

Now for a little lovefest on a personal fave of mine in this collection, pictured above & below, the fitted metallic lavender polka dot dress. Polka dots are a styled print I often wear and as such, this is a trend I always keep an eye out for on the runway. I am the NYC Fashion Editor for Bellus Magazine, and in my recent Fall 2014 Fashion Week recap, I summarized some hot looks and trends I saw during Fashion Week. One such feature was all on polka dots. So Kia, with this mesmerizing & stunning look, I add your design talents right alongside greats such as Lela Rose & Zimmermann – JOB WELL DONE! Clearly I am in love with this look and it will not be forgotten anytime soon!

10670282_10152443570914001_2692608265687460068_n

Kia describes her collection and its inspirations as being about sexy and sensual moods. There was a clear focus & plan to showcase a sexier side of feminine appeal. The way to do that, utilize bold colors and showcase alluring silhouettes.

1977288_10154627146520641_7684177141545828346_n

Lace appliqué & cutouts are 2 other trends I featured in my Bellus Fashion Week recap piece. And as I mentioned there, these are trends I don’t see going away anytime soon so I like to see what modern touches designers add to make the trend technique their own. As seen below, in this hot pink fitted number and nude striped jumpsuit, Kia is adding her signature stamp to these details.

15182231538_66f7c7df73_z

68932_10154627146240641_2880779011304189027_n

Speaking of design details, the intricate details for Kia’s collection are what truly captivated every soul at LQ last Friday, Sept. 26th. Everything was so meticulously thought out and crafted. Fringe is in right now, so with this hot orange separates piece, it is right on trend for S/S 2015!

15182305517_17365ab84d_z

The colors in this collection POP! There are bold solid hues in lime green, tangerine orange, hot pink, royal blue, and more. With prints there is aquatic reptilian and zebra striped numbers. Getting back to some great details, there is always plenty of room for creativity, such as with this burgundy one-piece with multi-colored fuzzy balls.

15182235508_dfb4df1d97_z

These looks are all just super cool, some of a more relaxed style, while others are hip, bad-ass numbers that will grab everyone’s attention for sure! There is a totally chic vibe about the pieces that scream chic fashionista urban RTW. These looks would be eye-catching on the street or mesmerizing at an exclusive rooftop lounge or cocktail bar.

1601143_10154627146630641_4087297863164422261_n

Let’s do another love-fest on this lace turquoise number. It grabs the attention from all angles. There is asymmetry, half pants, half dress. There are intricate & exquisite cutouts at the shoulder and on the back. The look is just hands down stunning. The instant it hit the runway I was intrigued. It would also work in any color, but I think the use of a bold pop of color in turquoise was wise for the runway. Another great look Kia — PROPS!!

10417435_10154627146580641_3850842183765176927_n

A great designer knows a runway show is not just about a look coming down the runway, it’s about putting on a great show, styling looks from head to toe. Now I will get to the make-up & hair details later, but what clearly stood out for me with Kia’s presentation was many of her accessories, especially the footwear. Check out these rockin’ lace & floral combo open-toed booties — #LOVE!

15368821155_43524c637e_z

And stealing the show with footwear are these thigh-high gold netted heels – smokin’, hot, killer heels, & whatever other sexy adjective one might think of that could and does describe these heels!

15182307437_c71d0527e4_z

Another sexy amazing look with more hip, chic strapped heels.

Nolcha Recaps – A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That

So wrapping up my recaps with Nolcha Fashion Week, let’s take a look at this catchall post. There are accessories to check out in the form of fashionable hats and some athletic or sportswear. But first, a little something for the men with Schuyler 4, a collective of menswear brands including: pants by Alberto, knitwear by Codice, shirts by Haupt, and sports jackets by Carl Gross!

PBN_6332

Stylish casual suits, poppin’ pants, bold prints, and more, that is what the Schuyler 4 collective brought with this S/S 2015 runway presentation! With Alberto Pants, you aren’t going wrong with fit, so it’s great to see an addition of style added, such as with this vibrant floral print seen above. The brand has very much stuck true to its signature & vision — high quality, exciting fabrics, attractive buttons, harmonious yarn colors, beautifully produced lining and great craftsmanship.

PBN_6054

Lots of menswear brands give you the basic, staple suit, which you need, but you are also going to want more relaxed or casual suit options as not every occasion calls for a suit & tie vibe. You will always need to start with your basic undershirt, and with that, there is no better than Haupt. Their shirts are understated & wearable designer shirts — high quality & casual elegance.

PBN_5984

You might want a bit more pizzazz in your suited look, so Carl Gross is right there to again provide modern & fashionable twists for men with suits. This brand is also about a relaxed elegance, but also fashion, quality, & comfort. You are not going to go wrong with any of these looks!

PBN_5996

There is a lot of versatility amongst these pieces, the ability to mix & match, go even more casual with a basic pair of chino shorts.

PBN_6113

Another great aspect with versatility, is the ability with Schuyler 4 to add in layering with light to medium-weight outerwear. Codice is right on hand for the perfect knit to match modern pants and shirts. It’s contemporary “tops” with a modern fit, “fashion” but wearable.

PBN_5956

There is a vibe to all of these pieces that would definitely catch my eye as a single female. I would see a fashionable man, who is able to dress well, pick out his own stylish clothes, and at the end of the day, look cool, be modern.

PBN_6087

I love this leather jacket above. It is my most fave piece in this collective presentation!

PBN_6237

Next up, let’s go back to Nolcha’s Ones to Watch series of presentations, and check out some bold, dramatic hats, custom millinery by Monstruosité.

PBN_1631

Monstruosité is by Dolly Donshey, with a creation of pieces focusing on the traditional art of millinery with a modern unconventional twist. These pieces for this current runway presentation are so exquisite, immaculately conceived, & simply put, BREATHTAKING!

PBN_1500

The details are what sells these pieces. YES! You will want to just don one of these as you walk down the streets of NYC, Paris, or London! There is nothing basic about these intricate hats, the colors, the clear inspiration, the passion!

PBN_1408

The hats even blossom to full on pieces such as this lavender floral lace piece seen below — GORGEOUS!!

PBN_1366

There is no way to not be captivated here. Donshey’s craftsmanship and quality work with the materials, carrying out her inspirational designs, it’s magical. I love this shades of blue moon design below, it’s high fashion at its best!

PBN_1302

The element of art coming to life in these pieces is definitely present.

PBN_1434

The various pieces adorned with flowers look amazing. The twist with the skulls incorporated is a great eye-catching twist. Donshey knows no creative boundary and that is a huge plus for her and putting out some highly unique, distinctive pieces!

PBN_1353

REMEMBER, THOU SHALT BE MONSTRUOUS!!

PBN_1523

And finally, touching on fashion of all types, let’s look at some comfy chic sports attire from Oiselle!

PBN_1256

Oiselle made use of runners, not models for this runway presentation — BRILLIANT!! They stepped barefoot onto the catwalk, wearing sports bras and spandex, with ponytails and abdomens shredded & fully exposed. Instead of look books and go-sees, they were cast based on their portfolios of race times and medals. It was great to see such inspiring and real women donning these looks, truly conveying the pieces are made for the average, everyday woman, no just a model!

PBN_1168

One woman was a 45-year-old doctor with three sons and a degree from Yale who had just run a 5 minute, 13 second mile. Another was Olympian Kara Goucher, 36. Leading the group down the runway was Lauren Fleshman, 33, an NCAA national 5-kilometer champion at Stanford.

PBN_1196

Oiselle’s vision is to create practical feminine fierce athletic apparel for women who love to run and race. That is exactly what the brand has done with these pieces. Who says athleticwear can’t also be fashionable!

PBN_1056

There is a range of styles & options with this collection. If you want the pops of color or more stylized pieces, there is that. But if simplicity is more your style, there are tons of options!

PBN_1091

In addition to spandex, leggings, tanks, shorts, sports bras, there is also outerwear and accessories by way of warmers.

PBN_1019

PBN_1074

This brand is all about bold lines, high design with it’s pieces, creating fashion sportswear. The intricate line designs are a modern styling to basic activewear pieces. It’s great to be able to hit the gym in style, but also have practicality and function with what you are wearing!

Great job Oiselle!
