JOURDAN DUNN

The model matched her Balmain dress with a brilliant silvery smoky eye, crafted from a mix of two Maybelline New York Eye Studio 24HR Color Tattoo Cream Gel Shadows ($7 each). Makeup artist Hila Karmand first applied the Audacious Asphalt color all over Jourdan’s lid as a base. Then she added Silver Strike to the inner corners of her eyes. After that, to really smoke out the shadows and lock the creams in place, Karmand used the light silver shade in the Maybelline New York The Rock Nudes Palette($10) on the upper lid. Then from the outer corner, she applied the glittery charcoal color (also from the palette) and blended it over the silver until it created a gradient effect. Underneath the lower lash line, she used a pointy pencil brush to blend a gray shadow with black liner.

KARLIE KLOSS

A classic red lip and thick, voluminous lashes work for any occasion—even one where people show up dressed in light-up Cinderella dressesand wolverine contacts, as Karlie proves here. To get the look, L’Oréal Paris celebrity makeup artist Sir John swept two coats of L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Red Carpet Mascara ($11) over individually applied false lashes. And for her lips, he applied two coats of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss in Rouge Envy ($10), tapping on a little translucent powder to set the color, and finishing with one last swipe.

2016 Oscars — Best Dressed

There were indeed some stunning looks at the 2016 Oscars. Here are my top picks from the evening’s red carpet!

Jennifer Lawrence

jennifer-lawrence

Jennifer radiates in this lacy black Christian Dior Couture gown. Other look details include —

jennifer-lawrence-oscars-2016-makeup-w540

Chrissy Teigen

chrissy-teigan

Chrissy looks sensational in this crimson lace Marchesa gown. I love that she is brimming with such beauty and this look is certainly eye-catching. Full look details —

Other beauty look details —

TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume Mousse and TRESemme Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer (each $4.99) Mousse is back with a vengeance this season, but this isn’t the stuff of your worst middle school nightmares. It’s light and airy, and paired with volumizing cream (hairstylist Christian Wood applied it only to the ends of Teigen’s hair) it creates the just-right amount of hold for a braid or updo.

Makeup artist Mary Phillips used the Lorac Unzipped Palette—the lighter colors in it for lift and highlighting, and the darker colors for depth and pop. In-between eyelash hairs, Phillips applied Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner in Black to create a thicker, bolder lash line without the heaviness of a full line sitting on top. She then used Lorac Front of the Line Pro Eye Pencil in Bronze and topped it off with Lorac Pro Mascara.

Isla Fisher

This Marchesa gown is nothing short of a work of art. Isla looks beautiful. Her other look details are inclusive of —

Saoirse Ronan

gallery-1456703922-gettyimages-512877796

This is a great color, not only for Saorise, but also for the red carpet. This custom Calvin Klein Collection gown is simply radiant. The rest of her look details include —

Other beauty look details —

Anna-Marie Carpendale

anne-marie-carpendale_gettyimages-512869250

Not sure of the look details for Anna Marie, but I do love this sparkly deep V-neck gown, gorgeous!

Sofia Vergara

gallery-1456703037-gettyimages-512873226

Sofia is the epitome of glamour and beauty in this strapless, flowing navy Marchesa gown, complete with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Huge kudos to her glam team as well —

Cate Blanchett

cate-blanchett

This mint green Armani Prive looks sensational on Cate. It is adorned with Swarovski crystal & feathers. She added some extra sparkle with Tiffany & Co. jewelry. And for a pre-beauty regime, she applied a facial treatment courtesy of SK-II.

GettyImages-512918548

Dorith Mous

gallery-1456700082-gettyimages-512869734

Dorith appeared as if she was straight out of a fairy tale book, dazzling in this black Dennis Diem gown. Other look details were as follows —

Naomi Watts

naomi-watts

I’m familiar with this Armani print, but I really enjoyed seeing it in a different silhouette. Naomi for sure rocked the look! Her other look details included —

naomi-watts-oscars-2016-drugstore-beauty-w540

Diane Mizota

diane-mizota_gettyimages-512871866

Diane looked beautiful, but also very sexy in this sparkly Thai Nguyen look. Her other look details were —

Tracey Edmonds

88th+Annual+Academy+Awards+Arrivals+RKnh6gjKzuhl

Tracey looked so lovely in this pearl adorned ivory fitted gown by Lorena Sarbu. Other look details —

Tina Fey

tina-fey

Tina went the minimalist route, but did so very well by picking this extraordinary color, royal purple. So her Atelier Versace look was an A+ in my book. And her statement-making necklace was courtesy of Bulgari.

Sylvester Stallone & Jennifer Flavin

image

No Best Dressed list is complete without a dynamic duo and one of my picks, Sylvester and his gorgeous bride Jennifer. They are killing it in their black ensembles, both courtesy of Saint Laurent.

Tom Hardy & Charlotte Riley

gallery-1456708198-gettyimages-512921206

Another stunning pair on the Oscars red carpet. Tom and Charlotte, who also rocked all black looks. Tom was stylish in a black Gucci tuxe with Louboutin shoes and Cutler & Gross sunglasses. Charlotte opted for a ravishing Gauri & Nainika gown with a immaculately crafted lace bodice.

Sam Smith

sam-smith-oscars-red-carpet-lead

Sam was quite dapper in his classic black tuxe from Dunhill. Other look details included —

Ryan Seacrest

88th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

And last, but certainly not least, Mr. Ryan Seacrest looking quite handsome in his very own line, Ryan Seacrest Distinction.

Laurel DeWitt

20160218_Laurel_Dewitt_Runway-4391

For Laurel Dewitt’s F/W 2016 collection, she continued to push the envelope into the stratosphere. Self taught in the field of metal manipulation, Laurel weaves a variety of textures, fabrics and color to create visually stunning wearable art. This season, she introduced new materials including denim, leather, and knits. When incorporated with her traditional chain dresses and chain webbing garments, the results are beyond breathtaking and beautiful.

20160218_Laurel_Dewitt_Runway-4435

Supple, butter-soft leather and denim, which she painstakingly distresses by hand, are intertwined with metal chains, dangles, and baubles that both enthrall and captivate. The Goddess Biker vibe that she has created this season is not softened by layers of taffata or velvet. But rather, it is achieved by constructing hundred of appliqued metal flowers. Hand-cut, hand-molded, and hand-inked roses are created from sheets of metal adding vibrant color and elegance to these stunning creations.

The collection is inspired by a timeless cultural dreamland that is a mélange of influences from different cultures spanning the Chinese Western frontier to Central Asia and the Caucuses, along the new economic and cultural trade route comprising the modern day ‘Silk Road’. Drawing upon indigenous cultures from Xinjiang, Kazakhstan, all the way to Turkey and Russia, this culture-bridging approach makes for a harmonious mosaic that is the main theme of the collection. Vivienne Tam’s collection features patterns and patchwork derived from traditional talismans – from protective amulets expressing a mother’s love symbolized by triangles but contemporized on techno-mesh, to caroqs with evil eye patchwork made from recycled fabric, to embroidered dowry suzanis and even a nod to American quilts.

The collection embodies a contemporary contextualization of traditional shapes that are characteristic of various cultures, expressed in relaxed silhouettes, jacquard rendered capes, robe-like coats, leather-trimmed coats, long tunics over striped oversized trousers, gaucho pants and dropped shoulders. The palette is a rich, earth toned one featuring deep burgundies, siennas, reds and greens, as well as deep blacks and burnished pewter and bronze metallics.

Runa Ray — Subtle Teachings of Origami

22nyfw20

We are constantly evolving and transforming into what we would like to be. Evolution is thus a natural process. It is fascinating by the way a plain piece of paper can be folded and unfolded until it becomes its purpose. We are born blank canvases onto which we decide to write the chapters of our life. We continue to fold and unfold till we either complete ourselves or remain a mystery. The similar principle lies in the art of making clothes. Using Origami and its techniques to create clothing, the process is very similar to what we do with our lives, I have either completed the product following all the steps diligently, made a start using basic folds, or completely arrested the development halfway through all the stages of folding.

Come Evolve with Runa Ray for F/W 16.
