Tadashi Shoji — Remarkably Timeless Beauty

MBFW — Salon @ Lincoln Center

463283214.jpg_5_0_2996_1994There just aren’t enough words to describe how glorious this F/W 2015 collection is. Tadashi Shoji has really outdone himself here. I wouldn’t dream of elongating this piece by the use of words. I really want to let the images do the talking because that is just how breathtaking these dresses are. But I will provide a few details at least on the designer’s concept and inspiration for the collection.

The inspiration here was the joy of flight — the intersection between aircraft mechanics and winged flight, finding the muse piloting the avian highways. Spinning wings of propellers starting to hum. Metal gears beginning their rotational motion. This and more make up the concept behind these lovely gowns.

Painted with the ivory brushstrokes of windswept clouds, sparkling skies, birds gliding majestically, dancing on air currents with graceful wing beats, that is the journey to be taken with this collection. Airplane mechanics influence the allover metallic embroideries of copper, gold, and silver burnish luxe knits, while feathered wing motifs can be found in sheer lace and tactile embellishments.

Ivory/black pleated Georgette strapless gown with beaded feather motif embroidered applique

A monochromatic palette of black, ivory, and navy transitions to semio-paque hues created from bi-color layering of diaphanous tulles. The ethereal silhouettes evoke a feeling of weightlessness. As if mused by the wind, feathers of frayed-edge silk organza and hand-cut tulle create lighter than air gowns and floor-length capes, dipping to dreamier depths. Aerial views inspire the textures of custom designed jacquards.

2015 Grammy Awards — Best Dressed

The trends of award season continue on with the Grammys, black/sheer combos, white with hints of silver, and jumpsuits. But the big trend to me of the evening, super sexiness from the ladies! These luscious ladies on the Grammys red carpet were vivaciously all about the Va-va-voom — cutouts, sheer effects, plunging necklines, and high slits! So of course my best dressed list includes some sexy numbers, but I managed to sneak in a few traditional picks as well. Enjoy!

1423445705_iggy-azalea-560_640 Iggy Azalea

Iggy looked magnificent in my fave red carpet color, cobalt blue. The details of this custom-made Giorgio Armani silk crepe dress were extremely eye-catching, sheer paneling at the bottom, as well as side and shoulder cutouts.

Jessie J

Jennifer Hudson

The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Jennifer went the simplistically minimal route in this understated LWD by Tom Ford. Her entire accessories, head to toe, were spot-on — metallic Jimmy Choo clutch, Dsquared2 mixed metallic stilettos, diamond Marli choker, Jorge Adeler ring, as well as jewelry pieces from Casa Real and Jack Vartanian.

Love this purple pout — then you should check out MAC Cosmetics, their lip shade, Heroine.

Chrissy did cutouts right, and all over, up & down as well! This white Emilio Pucci dress with loosely stitched cutouts was super sexy, amazing!

She paired with her look some exquisite accessories — Norman Silverman Diamonds earrings, bracelets, and rings, as well as black Jimmy Choo sandals.

Celeb makeup artist Mary Phillips used Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra-Nourishing Illuminating Argan Oil as a primer. “It quickly absorbed while leaving a glamorous effect on the skin,” she told Us. Phillips then layered on Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #7. “It has a super dewy, natural appearance,” she said.

To give Kendrick “that sexy Parisian women’s hair,” stylist Craig Gangi curled her hair in 1-1/2-inch sections, then combed through them with his fingers. For even more volume and dry texture, he spritzed Unite Texturiza before finishing with Unite Session Max Spray.

Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali made Anna’s eyes stand-out by using BECCA’s Automatic Eve Pencil in Majorca ($23) and Ultimate Crème Eyeliner in Romanticism ($20) to the top lashes and inside the waterline. She also paired with her look, Jacquie Aiche earrings.

PRAS, The Red Carpet Challenge — Sizzle or Fizzle?!?

Let’s call this an in be-twizzle. But really, let’s be real. No red carpet look here was exactly ready for prime time. It was perfect timing for this episode as we are right in the midst of award season, with the Grammy’s this weekend, and the Oscars right around the corner. But everyone here needed way more time and likely a bit larger of a budget. Nobody really would commission a dress for a major red carpet and leave only a day to put it together. This is especially considering the many other details this challenge entailed.

pras4-ep12-episode14So the specific details were given by Alyssa and Kelly Garner (via a taped announcement), who is portraying Marilyn Monroe in an up and coming Lifetime miniseries. The Marilyn part of the challenge was that the designers were to be inspired by her timeless beauty and create timeless red carpet gowns. The look had to sparkle and shine, as well as being suitable for the Oscars. It needed to be an iconic, timeless look that was memorable. So again, this was a lot to get out of any designer in only a day! And then going back to Lifetime, there was a huge prize at stake.

Screen Shot 2015-02-06 at 11.52.56 PM

The winning designer of the week would get the chance to design the wardrobe for a future Lifetime project. With that, the designers were off to Mood, with their largest budget of the season, $500. Still not likely enough for this challenge, but nonetheless, it was all they had. Michelle decided to spend nearly her entire budget on 1 really expensive fabric. On the other hand, Sonjia bought lots of options. Dmitry went with fringe (seemingly a PR fave as of late), and Helen decided on Chantilly lace.

pras4-ep12-episode5

The designers quickly got back to the workroom to begin work on their gowns. Dmitry had quite a bit to do, working with fringe and all. His fringe didn’t quite match his fabric so he had to tea-dye the fringe. Sonjia still wasn’t sure on the direction of her look — no surprise there! All while Michelle decided to designate herself the sparkle police. Isaac came by for a surprise visit. This was the first of a few surprises during this episode, which literally made it feel like one of the longest episodes in PR history!! If it wasn’t already preposterous enough to have the designers make such a major red carpet look in 1 day, they also had to take on a mini-challenge, seriously?!? Why was that needed?

pras4-ep12-episode6

Oh, I know. I guess it was to give Michelle some bragging rights, giving her a chance to win something during this season. It would have been quite sad being that she was a former PR winner and all to have not won 1 challenge during her time on PRAS. This whole design couture for a dog challenge was a waste of time at this point. I get dogwear and doggy couture exists, but it wasn’t needed right now. But it seemed besides allowing Michelle to have 1 win, PRAS also needed to make the episode last for an hour and a half versus the standard hour.

pras4-ep12-episode7

I love dogs, cute segment, but still didn’t get it. Isaac, along with Michael Francis and Lassie, set up the mini-challenge. Each designer had to work with a rescue dog, making a piece of canine couture. The doggy wear had to be inspired by a particular movie genre. So Dmitry worked with Dolla for Gangster, making a gangsta suit; Helen with Scrappy for Sci-Fi, making a rocket ship; and Sonjia with Cha-Cha for musical comedy, making a sparkly get-up with some feathers for flare. And with Michelle for the win, she had Taz, designing for western, making a bandana look.

Screen Shot 2015-02-07 at 12.00.20 AM

I’m sure everyone appreciated some fun, but with time wasted away, they were all quickly back to work, literally with Helen banging away. It was then Zanna-time. Michelle wanted to put chains across her open-back, but Zanna thought this cheapened the gown; I agree. Zanna & Dmitry discussed crystal placement. She asked Sonjia about if her look would stand the test of time. And finally, with Helen, Zanna worried the look read too old-fashioned. But Zanna was clear in saying to everyone, she wasn’t seeing anything timeless quite yet.

pras4-ep12-episode2

With time running low, Helen scrapped her entire bodice. And more trouble, right at the end of the day, Sonjia’s zipper broke. The morning of the runway left no time for dawdling. Everyone still had plenty to do. But it was soon time for the runway. Guest judge this week was CEO & Founder of Nasty Gal and author, Sophia Amoruso.

pras4-ep12-episode12

After critiques, each designer felt good. They all pretty much received both positive and negative comments. All really except Dmitry who was the clear winner this week. There has been a lot of predictability over this season and sub-par designs from the other designers. But predictability aside, Dmitry not only was well deserving of this win, but his spot as a finalist. He has consistently done a great job every week, and was never in the bottom. So if the PRAS season comes to an end with a headline reading “Dmitry is two for two”, I would be 100% fine with this.

pras4-ep12-ds

Dmitry had a great start here. Honestly, I could see this on the red carpet now. Not so sure about the Oscars, but I can only imagine how great this fringed look would have been with more time and money.

-project-ru5nway--all

This look definitely had stand-out appeal. Fringe and the hints of sheer are certainly eye-catching details. The fit was perfection. And it wasn’t a safe look. Very happy to see what Lifetime Project Dmitry will get the chance to work on. I’m sure he will go a great job.

pras4-ep12-episode23

Sonjia came in 2nd, another designer who has consistently done well all season. She has stuck true to her own voice and I’m eager to see if she could gain her redemption win. This bold look was far from perfect, but it was the most risk-taking look of the four. It was also the most fresh, and not something I’ve seen before.

pras4-ep12-sw

The judges clearly rewarded risk and the thought, and I think that was a good decision. Helen & Michelle’s look were not innovative or fresh at all. So it made sense for them to make up the bottom 2 and for Sonjia to attain her spot in the finale.

-project-2runway--all

I do agree with Georgina here. There was a bit too much going on, but the ideas were there and I appreciated the direction. And I believe this dress would for sure stand-out, but I’m not sure how timeless it was. But I think Sonjia took on a different definition to timeless. This look would no doubt be memorable.

pras4-ep12-episode15

I think this was Michelle’s best work of the season, but why did it take so long? And, was that alone enough to make her the 3rd finalist? I’m not a fan of this 1 hour challenge mess we had to watch happen, but really Michelle and Helen didn’t do themselves any favors here. Michelle was way too safe with her look.

pras4-ep12-ml

The chain was a pointless detail. The sleeves gave this gown such a heavy feel to it. And really it was the fabric that did all the work here. There wasn’t much design here. It was a shimmery gown, open back, fitted. I really didn’t see much of Michelle in this look at all.

-project-run4way--all

Mary Kay make-up shout-out, such a bold, luscious look, love this daring smoky eye/bronzed cheek/nude lip combo!

pras4-ep12-episode19

Helen lucked out here. Clearly Helen had the better look in the 1-hour duel, but Michelle’s gown was a lot better than Helen’s gown. It had no Wow factor, way too safe. I guess the judges either were more on the Helen-train or they really didn’t want to send someone to the finale for selecting a prettier fabric.

pras4-ep12-hc

Helen’s fabric wasn’t all bad. I could easily see it on the red carpet. But she ran out of time on this one. I’m not sure if she is quite ready to take on Dmitry & Sonjia in the final 2, but she has gained her spot so ready she must be!

-project-1runway--all

Because as we know, Michelle and Helen were left to battle out for the 3rd and final spot in the finale by taking on a 1-hour live challenge. Oh but wait, even before that, they brought them back out to state why they deserved that spot. Really! As if that was going to help at all in making the decision. Again, longest PR episode ever!!

pras4-ep12-episode18

So in this last live challenge, Michelle & Helen had to re-invent from failed, eliminated looks, a totally new look. They had to choose 3 looks from the previously eliminated designers, and in 1 hour, they had to create a new look.

pras4-ep12-episode28

Helen was upset right at the get go. She hated tearing apart someone’s look, even if it wasn’t great to begin with at all! Thankfully she got over it because that was the challenge at hand. Enough with the tears already. She was lucky to be getting this chance so pointless to waste any time over needless tears.

pras4-ep12-episode29

With the Michelle/Helen red carpet looks, it wasn’t a slam-dunk that Michelle was the clear victor. But this time around, it was laughable there was any debate over who made the better look. Helen worked great under pressure and created an understated look, but it was quite lovely for an hour’s worth of work. It was wearable and I could see it donned by fashionistas all over.

pras4-ep12-episode34

I’m not sure what Michelle was thinking though. Even if she had used 3 looks, which apparently she didn’t and that broke the challenge rules, but really, regardless, this look was not good. It was hardly wearable. And really, the only part she did true design work on was the worst part. I know she only had an hour, but everything read sloppy and just thrown together. I’m not even sure I understand what she did to Jay’s tank top, but I’m not giving anyone credit for literally shortening a skirt. The challenge was to re-design, and other than this pant-cho, I’m not sure what her design work here was. It seemed as if she just re-arranged some pieces, a little re-styling. This was nowhere near enough to garner Michelle that third finalist spot.

pras4-ep12-episode33

Lupita’s Elie Saab graphic print look, in moderation, aka shortened, I’m now a fan. It was a bit too much for the eye, flowing and full-on. But here, it’s super chic, very fashionable.

And what about these amazing accessories, bright red Sophia Webster heels, matching Judith Leiber clutch, and statement-making Fred Leighton jewelry.

And let’s not forget Lupita’s beauty regime — a beautiful braided up-do, courtesy of Larry Sims; bold make-up look (luscious red lip & copper smoky eye), all thanks to Nick Barose; and manicure provided by Deborah Lippmann.

2015 SAG Awards — Best Dressed

Another day, another stunning group of best dressed contenders gracing the red carpet. This time, it was the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards, aired on TNT. White, burnt orange, and even red ruled the night. But here are the looks that caught my eye and ruled by Best Dressed list!

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Red Carpet JULIE BOWEN

With all of this bitter cold in NYC, Julie’s embellished floral Georges Hobeika gown is making me long for spring weather! This gown is like a dream, from the intricate floral details to the sweet bow tie around the waist. Matching perfectly is this caramel Rauwolf clutch.

She too has picked the perfect jewelry accessories from EFFY, specifically these pink ice earrings.

21st+Annual+Screen+Actors+Guild+Awards+Arrivals+7opsfvGSxZjl

Her beauty look is also quite spectacular — Jill Crosby/hair stylist (chic sideswept bob-do, with help from Neutrogena styling products) & Heather Currie/make-up artist (great copper smoky eye & soft pink lip), also Neutrogena beauty products. All products came from the ever-convenient Walgreens.

SARAH PAULSON  TNT's 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Red Carpet

Black & white looks were all over the PCAs, and I’m happy to see it re-appear here. Sarah looked chic and sophisticated in this custom Armani Prive gown with a structured cape top & black silk crepe skirt. The accessories coordinated perfectly, statement-making David Webb jewelry & an ivory Edie Parker clutch.

Maria Menounos

MARIA MENOUNOS

Maria was a golden goddess in this rich brocade gown by Romona Keveza. To further compliment her look, a few delicate diamond Neil Lane jewels.

SOFIA VERGARA  1422240707_sofia-vergara-560_640

Red hot & smokin’, yup, that sums up Sofia’s one-shoulder Donna Karan Atelier gown, complete with gorgeous sheer paneling. This dress is truly captivating, from all angles! And of course she had no trouble selecting some beautiful jewelry, all from her own collection at Kay Jewelers, So Sofia!

Ariel is fully embodying old school Hollywood glam in this fitted Zac Posen gown with a train. She is really growing into such a beautiful young woman. She’s accessorized with a cute little black Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

FELICITY JONES

Reese Witherspoon

REESE WITHERSPOON

Reese’s white one-shoulder custom Giorgio Armani gown is understated, but it’s the very definition of minimalism at it’s best. And I love it! It has just the right amount of sparkle & drama, provided by the matte sequin detailing and a deep scoop back. Leslie Fremar did an amazing job styling this look!

Reese’s selection of Harry Winston jewels were stunning, emerald-cut diamond drop earrings, princess-cut diamond line bracelet, and a cushion-cut pink sapphire and diamond cluster ring.

Brooke looks breathtaking in this lace Jovani gown with an embellished bodice. Her makeup was done beautifully, bold smoky eye & sunkist cheeks, courtesy of Rebecca Epifano. Her locks were also superbly blown out, thanks to Anna Rose.

1422232784_melissa-fumero-560_640

MELISSA FUMERO

I can’t get over how much I love this look. Melissa’s stylist, Annabelle Harron, did a wonderful job. Her Jacob & Co. jewelry pieces were both bold and elegant. There is not anything I don’t love about this Maxime Simoens royal blue gown, especially this color, but very much too the structured bodice. She completed her look with just the right accessories — black Alexandre Birman heels and black geometric-shaped Rauwolf clutch.

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

All aspects of the styling were just as great as this dress, Jerilynn Stephens for creating this super sleek straight hair look & Sage Maitri for this dramatic beauty regimen.

KIMIKO GLENN

Kimiko-Glenn

Kimiko’s nude strapless Gemy Maalouf is immaculately stunning, definitely one of my faves of the night. The fit is great. And the tulle sheer detailing on the side gives this gown a special touch. The accessories here are also great — Loren Stewart jewelry, and the styling, SUPERB!! Styling — Lawren Sample; hair, Daven Mayeda, subtle waves, &  make-up by Carissa Ferreri, soft, natural, and beautiful!

Another great jewelry accessory, pretty cool Dionea Orcini earrings.

JENNIFER ANISTON

1422240453_jennifer-aniston-560_640

Jen looked radiant in this vintage Galiano gown, which hailed from the designer’s spring 1998 collection in Paris.

jennifer-aniston-2-290

The peacock-print beading from top to bottom was brimming with elegance. We’ve all been hoping for more than black from Jen on the red carpet, and she delivered!

jennifer-aniston-3-290

The bodychain necklace was of course stunning, but let’s not overlook some just as gorgeous gold and diamond pieces from Fred Leighton jewelry.

Manicurist Tom Bachik swept on L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 in Bold Bordeaux to compliment her makeup look. Such a rich color, and it coordinated perfectly with Jen’s vintage gown.

jennifer-aniston-nails-inline

Naturally, celeb makeup artist Angela Levin was determined to make her face just as radiant to work with her entire look. Using all Chanel products, the makeup pro applied Chanel Lift Lumière Firming and Smoothing Sunscreen Fluid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to Aniston’s face. The foundation, Levin says, works beautifully on someone with a tan, which Aniston had courtesy of her recent trip to Cabo San Lucas. For Aniston’s lip-tastic pucker, the Chanel artist prepped the actress’ lips with Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm. Levin filled Aniston’s lips with a neutral-toned lip liner to keep the color in place, adding a quick swipe of Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Sensuel for shine as the nominee was stepping out the door.

jennifer-aniston-435

Now let’s get to this dazzling Amrit bodychain necklace — the talk of the town since she’s donned this necklace style twice in a row for 2 major red carpets. Sat Hari is the talented designer behind this brilliant creation. Hari, who was born in the U.S. and went to school in India, is the creator of the black diamond body chain and necklace that Aniston wore. [Black Diamond “Make Love” Lariat Necklace, $1,800]. Ryan Hastings and Jena Covello introduced Jen to this unique brand.

411df64d94992836d9d02f576f01de271499c5b6

To create her undone, piece-y texture, hairstylist Chris McMillan spritzed Living Proof Instant Texture Mist onto the ends of her hair. You can’t wear a dress like that without a bombshell hairstyle! To complement the dress’ “beautiful bohemian vibe,” McMillan gave Aniston a fresh blowout using a big, round brush. For extra volume, he used Living Proof’s yet-to-be-released product, Blowout (it hits Ulta.com this April). Finally, McMillan sprayed their brand’s Instant Texture Mist into his hands, working the liquid into her ends to create the style’s textured finish.

What’s Hot for Prom 2015 — And the Winner Is……

So you may remember a little while back, I created a poll of some stunning looks that will be available for Prom 2015 thru Mac Duggal. Mac Duggal is a modern, high-end, luxurious dress and gown brand. The votes are in and here are the top 3 looks!

#3 — SWEETHEART NECKLINE GOWN IN LACE

10055R-BlackNude-PC

This stunner comes in both black/nude & a lemon multi-color. The sweetheart neckline features a lace appliqué along the front and back. Exposed corset boning looks severely chic and sexy! Crystals sparkle on the lace for extra shine and shimmer. The skirt flares out above the knees and features layers of tulle on the sides.

10055M-LemonMulti1-768x1024

This gown style is exquisite. And wearing it to your prom, you are definitely translating true red carpet style to prom fashion. This would be a winning choice indeed at any prom!

#2 — SHEER COUTURE PLATINUM LACE GOWN

61866D-Platinum-PC

A well deserved 2nd placement is this breathtaking gown, featuring both an elegance and a vintage flare, from the beautiful sweetheart neckline to the all over lace applique. Sheer illusion cutouts peak out on the sides and front as more lace trims the edges. The open back looks absolutely amazing with lace that wraps around. And just when you thought this dress had it all, a lovely tulle skirt jets out above the knees with more lace detailing sporadically interspersed.

61866D-Platinum-BK1-768x1024

I love this gown; it’s intricately immaculate. And again here, you would rock red carpet trends & style, while also truly showcasing the epitome of prom fashion!

And finally, #1, the WINNER IS………     blue-ribbon-number-1

2-PIECE SPARKLING EMBELLISHED LOOK

4152M-PlatinumGold-PC

This chic, phenomenal 2-piece comes in platinum gold, black, and royal blue. The high collar sheer neckline and capped sleeves are embellished with color-matching sequins and stones. A slight chevron stripe style beading flows along the sheer skirt.

4152M-Royal-BK1-768x1024

This dress is super-fun, super-amazing, and it’s great it comes in so many color options. There is a very elegant and modern vibe here. And it’s your choice for the #1 spot on What’s hot for Prom 2015!

You can check out the other looks here that were part of this poll. But the great looks do not end there, Mac Duggal has plenty more to offer. Here are a few other faves that recently caught my eye!

MIKADO 2-PIECE

61875M Aqua-PC

This 2-piece flared number comes in aqua and blush. The bodice is embellished with candy colored stones. The skirt is form-fitting, a mikado fabric mermaid skirt extending to the floor into a gorgeous sweeping train.

61875M Blush-BK

GOWN WITH BOW-TIE BELT

48209H PeachFizz-PCThe sheer illusion, bateau neckline sparkles with large bubble stones and silver sequins. An open back reveals more sheer trim and shining embellishments. Layers of tulle create a grand ball gown and flow into a slight sweep train in the back. And in case you would like to, the bow tie belt is removable. And one other positive, you can don this gown in peach fizz or mint green!

GLAMOROUS BALL GOWN WITH SWEETHEART NECKLINE

40397H CandyPink-PC

This strapless gown features a basque bodice that is totally embellished with light catching details. Silver sequins sparkle from the front to back while color-matching and AB stones sparkle effortlessly throughout. Layers of tulle create an expansive ball gown skirt with lots of volume. The stunner comes in bright pink or turquoise!

FITTED BLACK PEACOCK GOWN

76567L BlackPeacock-PC

This modern, strapless sweetheart gown is adorned with beautiful AB stones and sequins. The beading sweeps across the bodice in a diagonal pattern and wraps its way around the back going into the mermaid skirt.

STRAPLESS RUCHED GOWN

65110L Aqua-PC

The ruched bodice looks absolutely stunning with minimal embellishments on the top. However, sequins and AB stones line the waistline, as the flowing chiffon skirt expands toward the floor. You can rock this look in light aqua or watermelon.

SHORT STRAPLESS DRESS

64957N-Royal-NudeA lace appliqué wraps around the strapless sweetheart bodice. To bring out the lace embellishments, added amounts of crystal beading is used to decorate the bodice from front to back. A frilly tulle skirt bounces and moves with you in two striking colors, Ivory/Nude and Royal Purple.

ONE-SHOULDER SHORT DRESS

64900N-Teal-PC

This stunning short dress comes with a sheer illusion one shoulder wide strap. Glass cut stones and sequins lightly begin to glitter around the illusion material, but then truly shine bright on the sweetheart bodice. A ruched empire waist clinches at the center with a starburst of beading on the side for a stunning design, gleaming with embellishments. Soft chiffon finishes the skirt for a look that comes in forest green or black.

ROCKER CHIC SHORT BELTED DRESS

61439N-Royal-Silver-PC

The strapless sweetheart neckline is completely embellished with AB stones, sequins, and silver beading that flow throughout the bodice. An edgy silver bow belt trims the waistline, while more beading trickles down the short tulle skirt. You can kill in this look in either deep purple/silver or gold/silver.

I hope you’ve enjoyed both the looks that won the poll and some looks I’ve found while perusing the Mac Duggal site. I encourage you all to do the same!

2015 Golden Globes — Best Dressed

Ahhhhh! The much anticipated 2015 Golden Globes aired last night on NBC, filmed at the extravagant Beverly Hilton Hotel. And needless to say, the show was great. But also, and no surprise here, the red carpet was PHENOMENAL!! It seemed quite a few trends were very ever-present on the red carpet, one such being bold, bright red gowns. Red gowns also ruled my own Best Dressed list, as well as almost every Versace gown too!

There were so many gowns that I adored. It was hard to narrow down, so actually I didn’t! Just kidding! My list isn’t terribly long considering the vast amount of dresses donned by these major celebrities, but I did have to add a few extra to my list because there were just so many amazing looks to choose from. So here we go —

011115-GG-greer-grammer-428

GREER GRAMMER

Greer, aka Miss Golden Globes 2015, looked like a beautiful princess in this blush Lorena Sarbu gown with gold floral embellishments. She was definitely captivating on both the red carpet and the awards stage.

Her look was completed with some statement-making Neil Lane jewelry, including her bold dangling earrings, and then a shimmery gold Jimmy Choo clutch. Her stunning beauty look, created by Kip Zachary, encompassed a light blush on the cheek & pretty rose lip, compliments of L’Oreal Paris. All in all, styled by Kelly Johnson.

KATE HUDSON

Kate Hudson

There was no denying how gorgeous Kate looked in this severely sexy white Versace gown. Everything about this dress was perfection — the slight train, the amazing fit, & the intricate detailed cutouts at the sides.

kate-hudson-shows-tons-of-skin-at-golden-globes-2015-02

Makeup artist Christian McCulloch calls Hudson the “ultimate golden California goddess” and opted for varying shades of tan, bronze, and gold from Dolce & Gabbana’s makeup line to complement her stunning white Atelier Versace gown.

She added some sparkle to her look with some beautiful diamond pieces from Forevermark.

Colorist Cassondra Keeding added babylights to Hudson’s blond strands to further emphasize the sun-goddess effect, while ghd Brand Ambassador, David Babaii, created a modern day chignon using the ghd Eclipse Flat Iron.

kate-hudson-shows-tons-of-skin-at-golden-globes-2015-03

And finally, showcasing how captivating this look is from every angle, the backside is superbly stunning. The details at the side are embellished with Swarovski crystals. Also, to coordinate well with her white & silver look is a white Jimmy Choo clutch.

Heidi Klum  HEIDI KLUM

Va va voom! Heidi is smokin’ in this one-shoulder red Versace gown. Perfectly coordinating are her custom red Jimmy Choo “Jane” sandal heels.

Heidi Klum arrives at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills

Heidi’s styling team has done a fantastic job here — Linda Hay for makeup, creating a daring beauty look with a bold red lip; Christian Wood for hair, with this effortlessly elegant curly side-swept do; Tom Bachik for these lovely clear nails; & of course, this all couldn’t have been accomplished without Heidi’s talented stylist, Maryam Malakpour.

heidi-klum-@heidiklumANNA KENDRICK

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Still channeling her Cinderella character from Anna’s recent starring role with Into the Woods, she is looking very fairy tale-esque in this nude Monque Lhuillier gown with ruby beaded embellishments.

3305e349a04d4fccd513ded9ef7c27a7752f9000She was very smart to add these matching ruby red Fred Leighton earrings to top off her immaculate look.

Kendrick showed up on the red carpet looking like the movie star she is — a clean, elegant updo and highlighted, beautiful skin are all she needed to show off her true, effortless beauty. Makeup artist Vanessa Scali dusted Dolce & Gabbana’s Illuminator in Eva on the cheekbones, browbones, and down the nose to give the actress her ethereal glow.

anna-kendrick-600x450With regard to her elegant updo, the creator was Craig Gangi. And here are all of the fun details! “Anna’s dress was whimsical and fairytale-esque,” Gangi tells PEOPLE. “So to offset the dress, we decided to create a sleek, modern and sophisticated tight chignon for an elegant ballerina chic style.” To create the look, Gangi began applying his favorite “go-to product” — Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil — to the star’s damp hair. “It magically helped me transform Anna’s naturally curly hair into a silky smooth blowout,” he says. Once he finished blowing out Kendrick’s strands (using the Bumble and bumble Round Brush), Gangi used a flat iron to straighten it and sprayed each section with Bumble and bumble Does It All Styling Spray to “lock locks into a perfectly straight but fresh and bouncy look.”

anna-kendrick-600x800After spraying down her hair, Gangi parted it down the middle and brushed it into a tight, low pony before curling it using a 1-1/2 inch curling iron. As soon as her hair cooled, he brushed out curl and braided a small section and twisted it into a bun and pinned it in place. To complete the look, Gangi says he “wrapped the braid around the bun and pinned with a few strategically placed bobby pins to secure.”

The finishing touch? A good hairspray of course. “I used Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode Hairspray to lock style in place.”

Amy Adams

AMY ADAMS

Amy was a vision in this perfectly draped, one-shoulder, periwinkle Versace gown. And yes, I do believe every person who donned Versace made by list so stay tuned to keep seeing Versace on it! Versace was definitely the awarding winning designer brand for Fashion Nexus! She wonderfully completed her look with matching Jimmy Choo heels & a few diamond Tiffany & Co. pieces.

00638b97b98fee93ddc97a418bcbba0ebd5698ea

As part of her beauty look, Adams donned a trend of the night, retro waves. She channeled Jessica Rabbit (only fitting with red locks like hers), with loose, romantic waves swept to the side for added impact. Hairstylist Laini Reeves achieved the look with Oribe’s Volumista applied damp hair from roots to ends. After blowing hair dry, she used a two-inch curling iron and rollers to pin-curl hair up in four sections. She sprayed the style with Oribe’s Shine Light Reflecting Spray and let it sit for 20 minutes before removing pins and rollers and brushing hair out with a Mason Pearson brush to create the softness.

ANNA FARIS

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsAnna just finished up hosting the Peoples Choice Awards, looking even more stunning with each new look she donned. And I’m happy to report she didn’t lose any fashionable steam here. I loved how breathtaking she looked in this nude embellished Reem Acra gown. And her accessories were spot on as well, coordinating nude Jimmy Choo heels and diamond earrings & a ring from Lorraine Schwartz.

JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Julia went for simplistic minimalism with this white, one-shoulder Narcisco Rodriguez. And I love it! The dress was amazing, just the right amount of sparkle on the bodice. It’s not always about the bells & whistles! She also kept it classy with her accessories, a few diamond pieces from Irene Neuwirth jewelry.

julia-louis-dreyfus-golden-globes-2015-02

I love this matching ivory & silver Edie Parker clutch she has used to accessorize her look. And below, you can take a look at some of the makeup Julia used to achieve her beauty look — slight brown smoky eye & nude lip, inclusive of some Chanel make-up.

julia-louis-dreyfus-golden-globes-2015-04Reese Witherspoon

REESE WITHERSPOON

I am loving all of these solid silver gowns, very disco ball-esque. And this is certainly inclusive of Reese’s strapless, fitted Calvin Klein custom dress. Reese has said this stunner took over 80 hours to make, but every hour was clearly worth it; this dress is simply amazing! And to add just a little more silvery shine, she accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, specifically a stunning diamond bangle, totaling about $1.5 million with all she was wearing!

reese-witherspoon-@reesewitherspoonReese’s beauty look was breathtaking. Her rosy flushed cheeks were courtesy of Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Abundance, a pretty pink pout, thanks to Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Merlot, and champagne and bronzy shimmer eyeshadows (also by Laura Mercier) were all showstopping. And finally, her tousled sideswept waves were courtesy of John Frieda.

KATE BECKINSALE

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Kate always looks radiant. And she is of course shining like a bright star in this mixed media metallic & taupe Elie Saab greige gown. ALLISON WILLIAMS

Allison Williams

Allison was another lovely lady in fiery red. Her choice, an ombre beaded Armani Prive strapless gown with fitted bustier. She completed her look with Cartier diamonds, specifically a stunning diamond bracelet.

imageRetroglam for beauty looks was a very popular trend on the Golden Globes red carpet, mainly the hair. So here, makeup pro Gianpaolo Ceciliato wanted to “add a rock-’n’-roll edge to Allison’s Old Hollywood hairstyle and glamorous Armani Privé gown” with a bold smoky eye. He used St. Tropez’s One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion to give her a luminous, bronzy glow, and applied Giorgio Armani’s Eye Tints ($38) in #1 and #7  to create shimmery smoky eye. He rimmed the entire eye with a black pencil, and then layered the lid in black and gunmetal using Armani’s new liquid eye tints. “Then, I added a light beige to the inner corner and on the browbone to make the eye pop.”

KATIE CASSIDY

Katie is another lovely lady going with a super sexy look and it works. She perfectly struck the delicate balance of pulling off just the right amount of sexiness with this black Mikael D. dress. The details are superb, love the thigh high slit, starburst side cutouts, and silver touches. Black & silver continued on with her accessory choices — a black Rodo clutch and diamond Harry Kotlar jewelry.

TAYLOR SCHILLING

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Taylor opted for another crimson red hue on the red carpet, her choice, a criss-cross strapped halter gown by Ralph Lauren. She looked very elegant. Matching perfectly with her gown were a crimson red Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and ruby Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

taylor-schilling-golden-globes-2015-02

Taylor Schilling’s Grace Kelly-inspired beauty look featured lips that perfectly matched her Ralph Lauren gown. Makeup artist Tina Turnbrow used Nars Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil for lasting color. Her hair was also styled elegantly and very chic. Her hairstylist Ryan Trygstad, for Matrix, created a stylish chignon bun. He created the classic red carpet look with help from plenty of volumizing and anti-humidity products to ensure the twisted chignon would hold up all night.

LESLIE MANN

NBC's "72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards" - Arrivals

Yellow is a hard color, in my opinion, to pull off. Leslie made it work though with this fitted, strapless Kaufmanfranco number. It shines & shimmers all over and is the perfect shade for her. She paired it with a dark green Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and Kimberly McDonald jade earrings and gold bangles.

Her beauty look was radiant! Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick in Marigold paired perfectly with lit-from-within peachy glowing cheeks.

ELLIE KEMPER

Ellie KemperSupposedly this dress weighs 500 lbs! I’m not sure how she could wear this fully embellished silver Naeem Khan so well then, but needless to say, she does! It’s eye-catching and not in a bad way. I also love these gorgeous diamond jewelry pieces from Neil Lane — bracelets galore!

DAKOTA JOHNSON

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Another disco ball-esque dress for me and yes, I love them all! Dakota looks amazing with her own take on this embellished type of dress, here a couture Chanel, strapless and with a high slit. It’s as if it was earmarked just for her! She is also donning some fine Chanel jewelry, namely a beautiful diamond ring. Silver is definitely the name of the game for her and it coordinates well, including her silver Jimmy Choo heels and Rauwolf clutch.

04efdc55e40249e5a4c9eae678f987980cdca70fDakota’s soft, luscious waves were simply beautiful! Hairstylist Mark Townsend gave her a “sexy and bendy” look, using  Dove’s Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray to add major volume at the roots, and R+Co’s Death Valley Dry Shampoo to get piecey texture.

To offset Johnson’s silver sequined Chanel gown, makeup artist Patti Dubroff decided to keep her face fresh, subtle, and polished. “We did flushed cheeks, bitten lips, and a subtle, defined eye in warm taupes and deep gray in the corner,” Dubroff says.  For a rosy glow, she applied Chanel’s Le Blush Crème de Chanel Cream Blush in Revelation on the apples of her cheeks.

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals  KAT KRAMER

It’s almost as if you are in a bold crimson red, you’ve made my best dressed list! I’m not sure who Kat is wearing, but she looks gorgeous! I’m really enjoying this asymmetrical beaded gown. The fit is immaculate and Kat is exuding confidence, as well as looking great! Her accessories too are just as amazing, a coordinating red clutch and statement-making diamond jewelry.

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

JANE FONDA

011115-GG-jane-fonda-428

More red. More Versace. Gotta love it! Jane is pulling almost any look off these days. And she’s been wearing a lot of red, but each time, it still catches my attention in a new & fascinating way. This fitted red Versace gown, with sheer side pinned detailing is no different. She has paired with her look, silver Jimmy Choo “Aza” metallic pumps and a crimson red Rauwolf clutch.

Frances O’Connor

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I will forever support the Project Runway franchise when I can. But here, there is no question former PR winner Leanne Marshall deserves a best dressed nod. This black strapless gown, with a sweetheart neckline and lace bodice, is divine. Frances made the right call here and was definitely a stand-out on the red carpet. She was also rockin’ some gorgeous diamond jewelry from Forevermark!

BEST DRESSED DUOS

I had to be a little nit-picky with making my best dressed list or it would really run on. So a few gorgeous ladies didn’t make the cut, but I couldn’t ignore how great they looked when standing next to their handsome and well-dressed men. So here are a few best dressed duos that really caught my attention. And together, their looks were amazing!

Jennifer Aniston & Justin Thoreaux

Justin Theroux, Jennifer AnistonJen is no stranger to wearing black on the red carpet, but you can never deny how gorgeous she looks. And without a doubt, next to her man, they make for a dynamic duo for sure! Jen is wearing a black YSL fitted dress, with a beaded bodice, and accessorizing with Neil Lane jewelry.

02520159d468f0e153092616b87c537da7a1821c

You can read more about Jen’s chic hair below, but her natural beauty look deserves some recognition as well. Aniston’s cheeks glowed with a combination of Chanel Le Blush Crème de Chanel in Destiny, then Chanel Le Blush Crème de Chanel in Intonation on apples of cheeks, finished with a dusting of bronzer Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour in N°70. Her nude lips were courtesy of Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Mordoré-Nude and two coats of Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Deauville.

1421084707_jennifer-aniston-560  jennifer-aniston-3-435

Jennifer is also rockin’ a very chic, classic updo in a very ladylike bun. “I kind of snuck it on her,” says Aniston’s hairstylist Chris McMillan. A few days ago, he showed her a picture of Kate Moss from Mario Testino’s book. “She was like, ‘Maybe…’ And if we do it up, we normally do a ponytail,” says McMillan. “So we were like let’s do makeup first and we’ll do a ponytail. She liked the shape of the ponytail, so while she was in the chair I wrapped the ponytail into a bun.” Aniston asked McMillan if it was weird that she liked it up. “I haven’t washed my hair in two days, but I love the texture,” McMillan says she said. “It was a 15 minute hairdo! We used Texture Spray by Living Proof and she was most happy when she realized, ‘I don’t have to deal with my hair all night!’”

CHANNING & JENNA DEWAN TATUM

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

This is another gorgeous pair, Channing as handsome as ever in a traditional black tuxe by Dolce & Gabbana. Jenna is shining bright in this strapless draped sunshine yellow Carolina Herrera dress. She is accessorizing with a burgundy Jimmy Choo clutch and diamond Lorraine Schwartz jewelry ($5 million worth)!!

main.original.0x971cJenna styled her hair in some very elegant waves. Her hairstylist, Bridget Bager for Matrix, wanted to create texture and movement. “The gown is so beautiful and grand, so we decided to soften her hair to offset the seriousness of the dress,” Bager says. The key is use a medium barrel curling iron, wrapping each section loosely and letting the ends drop.

Chrissy Teigen & John Legend

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Such a perfect pair, John in a classic black tuxe, and Chrissy in a long-sleeved, lacy embellished, blush pink Zuhair Murad sheath gown from the S/S 15 collection. Chrissy is accessorizing with a metallic Tyler Alexandra clutch, a Harry Kotlar radiant cut diamond ring and cushion cut pink and white diamond earrings (all in all, $1 million). as well as a diamond Suzanne Kalan ring.

main.original.0x971c

Chrissy’s hairstylist Giannandrea used Macadamia Professional’s Whipped Detailing Cream to create a beachy texture throughout her strands. All in all, creating this super chic high ponytail.

DIANE KRUGER & JOSHUA JACKSON

NBC's "72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards" - Red Carpet ArrivalsDiane & Joshua look amazing together, a match-made in heaven! Joshua is donning a classic black tuxe with bowtie, head to toe Berluti, while Diane is shining in a light metallic Emilia Wickstead fitted lurex gown with side train. She completed her look with an Emm Kuo clutch, and Kwiat & Marina B jewelry.

MATT BOMER

Matt is the epitome of looking like a true, handsome gentleman. He is statement-making for menswear in this navy blue Ralph Lauren Black Label tuxedo, complete with a black bow tie!

PR All-Star Designers Roll the Dice

pras4-ep6-episode2

This week on Project Runway All-Stars, the stakes were high as the designers rolled the dice, taking on a fashion gamble. The gamble being it was the roll of the dice that would set-up each designer’s challenge details for the week. One dice encompassed fabric, the other for what occasion the designers would be creating for. So the runway became a gambling table and each designer made their rolls.

pras4-ep6-episode3

The order of the rolls truly made no difference this week, but Fabio having won last week took his turn first. Then each designer unnecessarily chose who would roll next, leaving Dmitry to go last. Here is what everyone was set to create for the week —

  • Fabio — Masquerade Ball look, made of denim
  • Sonjia — Bachelorette Party look, made of brocade
  • Samantha — Awards Ceremony outfit, made of brocade
  • Michelle — Gallery Opening piece, made of lace
  • Justin — Gallery Opening look, made of silk
  • Helen — Another Awards Ceremony ensemble, made of brocade, unofficial fashion face-off with Samantha
  • Gunnar — Masquerade Ball look, made of brocade
  • Jay — Sunday Brunch outfit, made of denim
  • Dmitry — Gallery Opening piece, made of velvet

pras4-ep6-episode6

After sketch-time, the designers were off to Mood with a budget of $150. There were lots of brocade looks this week and also a few fabric concerns. Dmitry was quite unhappy with having to work with velvet. I wholeheartedly understand, not a fan of velvet myself! Everyone was then back to the workroom to begin this 1-day challenge. Work began with a little bit of fun & play at the QVC accessory wall, but that quickly faded this week as some claws started to come out!

pras4-ep6-episode8

I found only 2 aspects of this episode intriguing or interesting. The results ended up being predictable, but I was interested to see how the judges would formulate the top & bottom 3. But the other intriguing aspect was seeing some drama this week. Hey, now I would rather an episode be great because there was a bunch of truly phenomenal looks that graced the runway. But that didn’t happen in this episode so I was only left to enjoy some drama!

Screen Shot 2014-12-12 at 5.16.28 PM

First up, there was Sonjia v. most of the designers. Apparently the fabric she wanted to work with was not a brocade. Now Sonjia said it was in the brocade section. And all we saw was the designers voicing their opinions and Sonjia ending up changing her fabric choice. I’m sure the powers that be somehow behind the scenes confirmed that the fabric she initially wanted to use was not brocade. Although just like last week with some Sonjia fabric drama, I’m not sure what all the fuss was about. Neither of her selections this week were worthy of such attention.

Screen Shot 2014-12-12 at 5.16.31 PM

The other bit of dramatic tension this week was Helen v. Jay. Helen went over to Jay to offer him some friendly advice, saying his Sunday Brunch look was more akin to that of a club or party girl look. He took offense, overreacting a bit, ending up call her a Beee-yatch! Now on one hand, I agree with Helen in the sense that Jay’s look did not read Sunday Brunch. But waiting to call him out in front of everyone, especially his model, probably not the best timing. Also, this is a competition, if Jay wants to shoot himself in the foot, at this point, let him. And then with Jay, overreaction, but did we really expect anything less. I guarantee the same thing would have happened with pretty much any other designer v. designer scenario. Actually, at least Jay said his response back to her face. Many of the other designers probably would have just saved their reaction for their private sessions, not having the guts to be so vocal and upfront with their response.

Screen Shot 2014-12-12 at 5.25.11 PM

Oddly enough, way less dramatic, was Zanna-time! She added some incentive for the designers, what good that did I’m not sure. But the winning look this week would be worn by Alyssa in an upcoming feature for Marie Claire. She urged the designers to forget about the hands they were dealt and to push forward, to be super creative.

Screen Shot 2014-12-12 at 5.16.52 PM

The judges panel was finally lessened to only 4 judges this week, also seeing a return of Georgina who has been missing for quite a few episodes. The guest judge for the panel was CFDA winner Michael Bastian.

pras4-ep6-episode22

The top & bottom for the week pretty much made sense. But as I mentioned earlier, I was intrigued to see how the top & bottom would develop. There easily could have been a few switch-ups and I wouldn’t have been surprised. But let’s look at the top 3 first, although it seemed more like a top 2!

pras4-ep6-sw

Sonjia was the winner of the week. I’m not sure I see this as the best look for Alyssa in Marie Claire. But she did just what she was supposed to this week, she designed a sexy look for a Bachelorette Party, made of brocade. This gold fabric to me was quite hideous, in fact, I agreed with Justin; it looked cheap. But somehow, Sonjia actually made this work. I think a different fabric choice would have still been leaps & bounds better with this design, but making it work, where others designers simply did not, this was what led to her win.

-project-r4unway--all

Mary Kay shout-out, love this bold red lip & cat eye! The look was sexy and fun. There was a bit of shimmer giving the outfit a special touch, but I still think Sonjia could have pushed a bit more. This was not her strongest win, but deserved in my book because other designers this week simply failed to step up their game.

Chi Hair Care shout-out, love this fishtail braid!

pras4-ep6-episode25

Michelle rounded out what I’m only calling a top 2. She could have won, but making the hip area bigger, way wrong move! Only working with lace had to be hard; it’s very sheer. But Michelle worked wonders with layering. And what was even more great about her work this week was that she took some odd color choices and really paired them together to create a very eye-catching piece.

pras4-ep6-ml

But as I said, the bigger hip area was the wrong move. I think a more fitted look, maybe even a little shorter would have hit the mark, making Michelle more of a contender for the win. I also think this type of look would be way more fitting for Alyssa in Marie Claire. But with the design choices made, Alyssa must have not been so in love with it. She embraced the fashion gamble this week though, whereas other designers did not, so kudos to her for that.

-project-r3unway--all

The judges then placed Helen in the “top 3”, although from their critique it didn’t sound so lovey-dovey to me. This look was not all bad, but it wasn’t all good. I agreed with Georgina, it had way to much going on. The 2-piece aspect just didn’t work with the slit and the neckline. So not only did she have too much going on, but the elements didn’t work well together.

pras4-ep6-hc

A few edits though and Helen too, just like Michelle, could have hit a home-run. She also did a great job with sticking to her challenge details. She had a difficult fabric choice and made it work for not only her look, but the event at hand, an awards ceremony.

-project-runway5--all

Mary Kay beauty shout-out, gorgeous shimmery eye and subtle red lip. But ultimately, what didn’t work for me here was how all of the elements came together; it just made the look less luxe.

pras4-ep6-episode24

Justin lucked out having been in the bottom 3, but not the bottom 2. Just as with Helen though, the look wasn’t all bad, but did have quite a few things wrong with it. The dress was too short. I didn’t quite see it being such a grand design concept for a gallery opening. The sleeves also didn’t pair well with his choice of neckline. And I agreed with the judges, the proportion seemed off.

pras4-ep6-jl

But the look did have some positives, which is why Justin deservedly was not in the bottom 2. I really liked this print — it was very Justin. The back was gorgeous. And I commend his starting off points. Had the look been longer, drop the sleeves, keep the neckline, BAM! Justin would have already been way better off.

Another Mary Kay Beaut Shout-out — Lots of great, bold red lips this week!

-project-2runway--all

Fabio ended up in the bottom 2 this week, which was quite a shocker coming off of his win last week. I didn’t think his dress was deserving of such harsh criticism, but I think the judges took some serious offense to his choices for the week. He didn’t embrace working with denim. He chose a fabric that barely even resembled denim. His styling was also way off this week, perhaps a bit too much, the grey eye, the pearl necklaces as a head wrap.

pras4-ep6-fc

Isaac took the most offense with Fabio’s work this week, ultimately feeling like Fabio dropped the ball. This part I agree with though. Even had Fabio not been in the bottom, he was only aiming for the safe-zone. He won’t win this season with that attitude so hopefully next week, he steps it back up.

-project-runway--all

This left Gunnar rounding out the bottom 3, and ultimately going home this week. This was not a huge surprise. The past few weeks he’s struggled with executing his design concepts. He has some great ideas, but PRAS was not the place for him to allow those ideas to flourish.

pras4-ep6-gd

There was just way too much wrong here for him to escape elimination again. The fit was way off. The bodice had no structure to it, very unflattering. He selected some interesting fabric choices and had an intriguing idea, but again, he was not able to execute it. Sad to still see him go though. Gunnar seems like such a great person and I don’t doubt his talent. But time restraints are clearly not his friend!

Best Dressed at the 2014 AMAs

And it’s safe to say with my list, entirely black ensembles ruled with more than half of my Best Dressed contenders in all black get-ups. But nonetheless, this Best Dressed list was still top-notch, with a great deal of shining stars, dynamic duos, and looks brimming immaculate details. Check it out & ENJOY!!

KATE BECKINSALE

kate-beckinsale-white-dress-american-music-awards-2014-h724

In my eyes, it seems Kate can do no wrong. She always looks phenomenal. And this white plunging V-neck Kaufmanfranco ensemble is no exception. It’s sexy, chic, and fitted to perfection. Kate is for sure rockin’ this look! Coordinating perfectly with her outfit is her silver Lee Savage clutch and diamond serpentine Bulgari necklace.

JULIANNE HOUGH

julianne-hough-red-dress-american-music-awards-2014-h724

Julianne has had me questioning some of her more recent red carpet looks, but with this bright tangerine Zuhair Murad gown, there is no doubt this look is an A+! I love the details, the flowing train, the thigh-high slit, and the intricately detailed triangular cut sheer bodice. She completed her look with a gold Lee Savage clutch and gold Tamara Mellon sandal heels.

2014 American Music Awards - Arrivals

Actually, one other stunning detail for Julianne’s bright get-up was her edgy gold Jacquie Aiche jewels! Her entire styling team deserves some major props for this job well done — hair stylist Riawna Capri with Nine Zero One Salon, Spencer Barnes for Make-up, Anita Patrickson for styling, and Kristy Sowin for running the show!

DANICA MCKELLAR

I am still head over heels with how gorgeous Danica looks in this emerald lacy gown by Mac Duggal. She looks breathtaking & I’m in love with this look!

FERGIE  fergie-amas-red-carpet-2014-getty__width_580

Fergie made a major comeback with a new single at the AMAs, but with the red carpet, it’s a double comeback! She knocked it out of the park with this sexy thigh-high slit number from Halston Heritage complete with gold detailing at the waist and neckline. She kept up the overall sexy vibe with some fierce accessories, including black Versus Versace ankle-strap heels & Loree Rodkin jewels, namely a killer serpentine ring.

sev-selena-gomez-front-lgn

SELENA GOMEZ

As I said, entirely black looks ruled my list, and Selena’s demure open back Armani Prive gown is at the top of that list. She looks so classy and sophisticated, yet this number still has a hint of sexiness to it.

sev-selena-gomez-de-87877662

Clearly I think it looks great from every angle!

slide_383740_4589718_compressed

And to give the all black look just a little bit of color, the necessary amount of sparkle, are some exquisite pieces of jewelry, such as these burnt red & gold Neil Lane danglers.

selena-gomez-2014-ama-updo-red-lips-w540

I’m not sure of the designer for Selena’s performance look, but she also looks just as stunning here, a very soft number to go with her heartfelt performance.

MEGHAN TRAINOR

Every red carpet attendee doesn’t need a full on gown to still look amazing and Megan proved that point very well. She looks super elegant in this black Ted Baker London cocktail dress. The lacier top portion provided just the right amount of red carpet appeal to land her as Best Dressed! I’m also head over heels for her sparkly red lips clutch, if only I knew where it was from!

megan-trainor-660

BAILEE MADISON

2014 American Music Awards - Arrivals

Bailee could have worked a more younger piece, but I still think she looks so prim, proper, & perfect in this eye-catching Walter Collection by Walter Mendez frock. I just had to include her on my list! She looks happy & if she wants to go the ladylike route, fine by me since she looks as great as she does here.

LUKE BRYAN & CAROLINE BOYER

B3LMBKNCYAA5xMV

Even outside of the country music awards scene, almost any best dressed list of mine would not be complete if I don’t include Luke Bryan and Caroline Boyer. As long as these two are at the show, they never cease to amaze me. They are a dynamic fashion red carpet duo for sure. I’m never quite sure who Caroline is wearing, but she still deserves Best Dressed recognition, especially in this beautiful strapless red gown with a black lacy belt at the waist.

ARIANA GRANDE

ariana-grande-american-music-awards-2014-05

I am so sad that I couldn’t see a red carpet look from Ariana! I guess I will have to settle for this gorgeous black lacy number she wore while performing. I mean come on, she looks stunningly beautiful right! I just wish we could have seen her on the red carpet, let her rack up those best dressed red carpet numbers because I think she could have had an overall best dressed night had we seen her on the red carpet. But I do love this black gown!

2014+American+Music+Awards+Arrivals+eWQ82OTWG5hl  CARLY STEEL

Another black gown, another knockout! Carly looks divine here. This sparkling lacy gown is perfectly fitted for her and perfectly fitting for the night!

CHARLI XCX

amas-american-music-awards-2014-charli-xcx-red-carpet-orig(2)__width_580

With so many black looks on my list, you would think I would tire of them or be bored. But I can’t be when they all look so different, so great, and bring something new to the table. Charli XCX blew me away with out elegant and sophisticated she looked in her head to toe Vivienne Westwood ensemble. So yes, Vivienne Westwood black draped gown and gold Vivienne Westwood jewelry pieces.

2014 American Music Awards - Arrivals BECKY G

I must include on my Best Dressed list a few short, sexier numbers. Becky G’s white sheer long-sleeved mini is the perfect example and the perfect addition to my list. I love how hot she looks, but still somewhat understated and not over-the-top.

And what about that gorgeous makeup, the poppin’ pink lip and smoky eye, all courtesy of CoverGirl, NEW Colorlicious lipstick and Bloom mascara!

e7f3a22df1b544998d55b5d83cdd39d2a5802fa9

MORGAN STEWART

Another sexier, short number, but I literally couldn’t take my eyes off of Morgan’s nude long-sleeved mini. The dress had so many eye-catching details, it was definitely more than basic!

ONE DIRECTION

One Direction has a whole always looks handsome and dapper. Loving their mix of looks from eclectic hipster to refined gentlemen!

JENNY MCCARTHY  jenny-mccarthy-290

At first glance you might think Jenny is donning a plain black dress. But take a gander at it from the back, an open back trimmed with pearls, I’m adoring this lovely detail! This is just a gorgeous dress from Cushnie et Ochs, no doubt. She gave her look a little extra sparkle & bling with adorable Kotur clutch.

B3KnH10IYAA8Rc4

In addition, for even more special touches to Jenny’s gorgeous look, there is a statement making beaded necklace by Erickson Beamon and Graziela Gems earrings. Her overall look is just spectacular, including her luscious waves courtesy of Justin Presnell of the Rossano Ferretti Salon in Beverly Hills.

KANDI BURRUS & TODD TUCKER

And finally, one last great looking pair with Kandi & Todd. Todd looks laidback and relaxed, but still very handsome and well put together. It’s a modern spin on a suit, leather pants as a substitute, sans tie. And then Kandi looks smokin’ in her fitted white bodycon dress!

PRAS Designers’ Showdowns — Good v Wicked

Well the set-up was all there. The challenge was couture inspired fashion. The underlying inspiration was the Broadway hit musical Wicked. We had the drama, huge showdowns between equally talented designers with “Good v Wicked”. But all in all, I was somewhat underwhelmed this week. I wasn’t WOWED by many of the looks. I was expecting some touch choices to be made between pairings on who had the best design. Instead I witnessed a battle of who had the worst look. The episode wasn’t all terrible, so first let’s backtrack a bit and get all the details on this week’s challenge.

BRAND_LFT_PALL_155236_TVE_000_2398_60_20141111_000_HD_768x432-16x9

Alyssa descended upon the Wicked stage to greet the designers and provide the challenge details. Joining her were Wicked’s stars, Christine Dwyer (Elphie The Wicked Witch) and Jenni Barbour (Glinda the Good Witch). A major theme for Wicked is that every story has 2 sides. So as a tribute to the musical and the witches’ rivalry, this week, the designers would too rival one another by facing off and presenting a couture look representing the concept of “good” or that of “wicked.”

projectrunwayallstars2

The pairings were set —

  • Justin (wicked) v Fabio (good)
  • Kate (wicked) v Sonjia (good)
  • Ben (wicked) v Helen (good)
  • Chris (wicked) v Michelle (good)
  • Samantha (wicked) v Jay (good)
  • Dmitry (wicked) v Gunnar (good)

pras4-ep3-episode20

Part of the issue with the designers’ work this week I think could partly be blamed on the challenge details & parameters. Couture work means so much more work than a mere 2-day challenge. That is PR though and even in short time frames we’ve seen some stunning work come down the runway in the past. I did feel as if a $250 budget for Mood seemed a bit low for such a high stakes challenge. I’m looking for a bit of blame though because I still feel as if something was off with the work this week. I felt with many of the designers I didn’t dislike their entire look. There were aspects I very much enjoyed and was impressed by. Some had a decent start and I’m not sure whether it was a lack of time, a bit of nerves, or maybe not enough of a budget, but somewhere, somehow, things went off course a bit.

518514731-Project-Runway-All-Stars-Good-Versus-Wicked

As the designers headed back to the workroom for their 1st day of work many recognized some stiff competition for themselves with who they were paired against. I think head games might have been a factor with lackluster looks. Gunnar seemed to be the only one with a diehard spirit on wanting to truly beat out his competition — Dmitry. The 2nd day of work brought us Zanna-time and model fittings.

pras4-ep3-episode8

Zanna announced a prize for winning the challenge. The winning look would be on display for all to see at the home of Wicked, the Gershwin Theatre. Sadly though, this incentive nor were Zanna’s encouraging words enough to boost many of the designers’ looks. Zanna encouraged the designers to think couture, replace crafty with exquisite details. Samantha & Fabio were likely given the harshest critiques. Samantha was told her original look was a snooze-fest so she started over. Fabio’s dress/pant combo had Zanna worried so he hesitated on moving forward. But ultimately he stuck with his gut and his original look that he loved.

pras4-ep3-episode13

The morning of the runway saw a few designers working away, lots still to do. But for others, there was confidence and a ready-to-go spirit, such as with Chris, Dmitry, and Jay. Of course, not all of these designers had true reason to be so confident! The judging panel was sans Georgina this week, but there were 2 guest judges — eclectic designer Betsey Johnson and star of ABC’s hit comedy Modern Family Ariel Winter. Betsey was a little on the nicer side, but Ariel, to be so young, I was very impressed by a lot of what she had to say. She knew what she was talking about and what she liked. Not sure why Georgina was out, but it was probably best because we didn’t need 5 judges, let’s keep it at 4 every week!

The only designer I want to give a side shout-out to is Kate. I think the Kate/Sonjia pairing was the only one where both designers went all out. For every other pairing I was able to pick the high score, except this one. This was certainly no white dress or bridal type look this week. I love this skirt, the vine detailing and the tons of tulle covering up the skirt. Also, Mary Kay shout-out, great call being dramatic with the make-up. A lot of the designers for “Wicked” went with a bold, dark lip and a dark, smoky eye. But Kate mixed it up and was wise to try out this “white-out” eye. Gorgeous!

From here, we can easily transition to discussing Kate’s face-off partner, Sonjia, who was also this week’s winner. Sonjia wasn’t my pick for the winning look, but she definitely did a good job.

The judges loved this cover-up skirt over a shorter fitted dress. I was not a fan of this aspect. It took the luxe, couture factor down a notch for me. The reason I think I disliked it was actually because of how much I loved what Sonjia was doing with the under-dress, the lacier portion.

-project-r6unway--all

The neckline, the sleeve detailing were all just insanely gorgeous. I think a dress going more in this direction, all of this type of work, would have been a total knockout and a winner for the night in my book.

Shout-outs for QVC, love the metallic gold sandal heels, & Mary Kay beauty look, subtle smoky eye & semi-dark lip combo worked beautifully together and with this look!

You can see above Sonjia’s winning look on display, but my winning look for the week and more fitting for a Wicked display was Dmitry! This dress was full on wicked and it was stunningly eye-catching. The feather detailed work, the cut-outs at the waist, sheer tulle overlay, the stunning back, I mean WOW! I can’t believe Dmitry wasn’t even in the running for the win, so yes top 3, but to then not be top 2, really?!?

pras4-ep3-ds

Michelle said you could see the model’s cooter in this dress, yet then we saw Isaac & Betsey wanting more skin. Not sure about more skin here, I think we can see enough! I’m not sure I could rock such a high slit, but it’s definitely a red carpet trend right now and Dmitry was smart in knowing many celebs and starlets would love this aspect.

-project-r5unway--all

The back and the neckline did it for me with Dmitry’s very wicked-esqe dress. So sad it was not the winner, but had it not been in the top 3, that would have been a true travesty!

pras4-ep3-sb

No disrespect to Samantha this week, but I in no way believe she even thought she would be in the top 3. Actually she was in the top 2, very near winning this week, which is still a bit mind-boggling to me. We as viewers got see her many troubles over the 2 days in creating this look. But even had that not happened I still wouldn’t have pegged this look as a near win. The entire back side is very disappointing, poor execution, nothing special going on.

pras4-ep3-episode23

Chi hair shout-out for this gorgeous fishtail braid though! I’m just not sure how the judges overlooked the entire back side of this dress. I will say her showdown pairing with Jay wasn’t as much of a slam-dunk as Jay thought it would be. Jay’s dress was not amazing at all so Samantha being the higher score made sense. But top 2, still scratching my head on that one.

-project-ru2nway--all

Even the front had execution issues to me, but I think the judges called this “raw” or “organic.” The sequins are gorgeous, but really are Samantha’s saving grace this week. They did all of the work to make this dress sparkle the little bit that it did. The dress had potential so Samantha going this direction made sense. And I’m sure with more time it could have been so much better. But maybe since so many dresses this week were safe or lackluster, the judges decided to grade on a “Potentials” curve.  Mary Kay beauty shout-out, beautiful cat eye and deeply bold wicked lip color!

Fabio was the first of the bottom 3, being saved from near elimination. The judges said this dress/pant combo was not couture and I agree. He clearly has an aesthetic, but his style has a way to transition into a couture look and this was not it. If the printed pants weren’t enough to catapult this look into a non-couture zone, the harnessed back certainly did the piece no favors.

pras4-ep3-episode26

Fabio already won a challenge and I think the judges took that as well as couture work not being in his wheelhouse into consideration. But he can’t let his work be so confined into one box or one type of design work. He needs to be able to show growth and development.

-project-runway-5-all

Mary Kay shout-out for this sweet & delicate beauty look and QVC shout-out for these cute black sandal heels. Great choices to help in some way for this look!

pras4-ep3-hc

During this episode we saw Helen working tirelessly away on ruffle details. I was super-excited to see where she was going, but this end result was not great. I knew she would be in for some trouble. The ruffles didn’t marry well with this embroidered fabric. Also, the ruffle placement was too much for the look. It made the garment really heavy feeling. The judges were spot on in saying just because something takes you so long to do, it doesn’t mean it will be the best part of an ensemble.

pras4-ep3-episode21

Helen works with eveningwear so this letdown was a bit of a surprise. I’m not sure what she was thinking here. It’s clear she really wanted to do these ruffles so the only way I think she could have made it work was maybe to make use of them at the bottom of the dress? And then even as gorgeous as the vines on the shoulder were, I’m just not sure how all of these elements were supposed to combine and work together harmoniously.

-project-r3unway--all

Love these QVC ivory sandal heels though, so QVC accessories shout-out!

pras4-ep3-cm

So with Chris rounding out the bottom 3, sadly this meant it was goodbye Chris. I know Chris has talent, but something did veer off course here. It was not his best work. The judges expected more from Chris on this challenge, and coupled with his bottom appearance last week, were reasons leading to his ouster this week.

pras4-ep3-episode27

It was no surprise Betsey loved his dress. In fact, the bottom portion looked very Betsey Johnson-esque. But to me, it kind of felt costume-y. Chris didn’t want his “Wicked” look to be black, guessing like a few others. But there are tons of colors you can go wicked with, really anything dark, browns, blues, purples, reds, etc. Being wicked is not all about color! Color aside, this shredded detailing didn’t help either.

-project-runway--all

The fabric, the shredded detailing, it just didn’t feel couture or high red carpet quality. Sad to see Chris go so soon, but I’m sure that will be a constant sentiment for many designers on this season of PRAS. Another QVC shout-out though over another pair of heels, dying over these silver sandal heels!
