Faves of 2019

2019 & 2020 were whirlwinds of years for me personally. But I still took note of fashion moments I loved on various red carpets throughout 2019. It might take a few posts, but I am now set to share some of my faves, and then get onto 2020 looks and into 2021!

“THE” Red Carpet Trends of the 2015 Award Season

The 2015 Award Season is in full swing, with the Golden Globes, Peoples Choice Awards, SAGs, Critics Choice, and more having already come and gone. There are still a few more award shows coming up though, a few on the country music scene, and of course heavy-hitters with the Oscars and Grammys. I have highlighted 9 red carpet trends during the 2015 award season, and I’m sure these trends will continue to be seen with the award shows still remaining.

What I’ve also done is found a way you can bring these red carpet trends to your own world. Fashion Nexus has had such fun collaborating with Mac Duggal, home of stunning designer dresses & gowns for red carpets, prom, homecoming and more. So if you want to dress like the stars for Prom 2015, or take on a major red carpet trend for a formal event of your own, trust Mac Duggal has plenty to offer!

black-white-600x450

#1 — BLACK & WHITE

bw

Black and white individually are always seen on any red carpet. But this award season, the 2 hit colors have been paired quite frequently, especially dominating at the 2015 Peoples Choice Awards. Kat McPhee, Olivia Munn, Kaley Cuoco, Shaun Robinson, Sarah Paulson, and more all rocked this trend. And it was great seeing this color combo across a vast array of gowns.

Spring is not yet here, but flowers have certainly been blooming on the red carpet. It’s been seen in subtle neutral tones, paired with black, and bright hues.

#3 — RED — HOT, HOT, HOT!

red1

red2

Generally, I’m not a fan of naming a standalone color as a red carpet trend. Why? Because of course you are going to see almost any given color on the red carpet, and likely across several shows, that color will pop up more than once. But clearly, red looks have been all over the place, and way more than just a handful of times. Red especially dominated at the 2015 Golden Globes.

Blush, soft pink, close to nude tones, always very gorgeous on the red carpet, and certainly brings an elegant factor to any lovely lady donning this hue.

I love jumpsuits, so great seeing them on the various red carpets. Not sure if we will see any for the Oscars, but I imagine another few will pop up here and there as award season continues.

#6 — WHITE GOWNS WITH PLUNGING NECKLINES

plunge

You are going to see white dresses on red carpets — it’s a given. But one trend I’ve noticed specifically with white looks this award season, are dresses with plunging necklines — va va voom!

#7 — BLACK & SHEER COMBOS

Black is another given color choice for red carpets. But specifically what I’ve been seeing, black with sheer effects — overlays, necklines, and more!

#8 — ALL OVER SILVER, SHIMMER & SHINE

ss

Think disco ball, or like with DWTS, the mirror ball trophy. These all over sparkling silver dresses have been all the rage. It’s not just the silver color, it’s about all of the glitz and glam, the sparkly beaded embellishments.

#9 — WHITE W/ HINTS OF SILVER

And finally, again with white, but this time, another little detail I’ve noticed, hints of silver embellishments, whether on the shoulder, the neckline, wherever it works best to add that needed sparkle.

Best Dressed Round-Up for 2015, Round 2!

Awards season is going full steam ahead. In the midst of it all, there are so many red carpets going on, and looks you might have missed out on! These are quite the memorable looks and definitely deserve a Best Dressed nod! The few main events, SAG Awards after-parties (Weinstein Co./Netflix and Entertainment Weekly/sexyhair), and the Producers Guild of America Awards. So here goes….

kate-hudson-atelier-versace-spring-2015-show-paris-3-530x530

KATE HUDSON

Kate wowed in Atelier Versace actually while attending the Versace Fashion Show. This red number is super stunning, sheer cut-outs to perfection. And of course, going with more red, nude Christian Louboutin heels.

MARIA MENOUNOS

maria-menounos-290

Maria was 2 for 2 on the night of the SAGs. First rockin’ gold, and here, my fave red carpet color, royal blue. What a standout this look, an Emilio Pucci column gown with a sequin halter and sheer details along the side. I’m entranced!

KATIE CASSIDY

imageNot sure of the designer details for Katie’s chic & sophisticated look, but I’m a huge fan of jumpsuits. So for this one, with a plunging V-neck, I’m definitely a fan!

ISABEL LUCAS

I know Isabel is making use of a shiny gold Lee Savage clutch, but no clue about this gorgeous beaded gown — embellished all over! Isabel is donning lots of shimmer, shine, and sparkle, while attending the premiere of her recent film, The Loft. I’m a fan! This sheer bodice is breathtaking!

LAUREN COHAN

I hate not knowing so many designer details for given looks, but I can’t ignore such beauty and glamor. Lauren looks fabulous in this black cap-sleeved gown with shimmery gold shoulder embellishments. Such a stunner!

MAISIE WILLIAMS

Maisie looks fashionably cute, the perfect look for a huge after-party. This floral embroidered, mint green Reem Juan dress is spectacular. She has coordinated very well with this look, metallic silver Topshop heels.

JULIE BOWEN

J. LAW

The first red carpet for Jennifer for 2015, and wowzer! I’m loving this white Prada gown with silver embellishment details at the waist and shoulders. It’s quite captivating. Very Grecian or Roman-esque.

There are several stunning details to this look, the shiny metallic heels and jewelry, especially Jennifer’s Shay ring.

LUPITA NYONG’O

lupita-nyongo-290

Lupita’s Elie Saab graphic print look, in moderation, aka shortened, I’m now a fan. It was a bit too much for the eye, flowing and full-on. But here, it’s super chic, very fashionable.

10945488_774399362641966_1482027947738092796_n

And what about these amazing accessories, bright red Sophia Webster heels, matching Judith Leiber clutch, and statement-making Fred Leighton jewelry.

And let’s not forget Lupita’s beauty regime — a beautiful braided up-do, courtesy of Larry Sims; bold make-up look (luscious red lip & copper smoky eye), all thanks to Nick Barose; and manicure provided by Deborah Lippmann.

SOPHIE TURNER

Sophie is too rockin’ a floral look, hers, navy blue & gold, Chanel. Natural, fresh make-up look, provided by Narsissist, Murad Cares and Tarte Cosmetics. A lovely top-knot, thanks to Sigma Pro.

JUDY GREER

And finally, shining, is Judy Greer, looking ever-ravishing in this black and shiny dark blue number. This bodice is quite intriguing. I love the shimmering blue fabric and sheer neckline.

2015 SAG Awards — Best Dressed

Another day, another stunning group of best dressed contenders gracing the red carpet. This time, it was the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards, aired on TNT. White, burnt orange, and even red ruled the night. But here are the looks that caught my eye and ruled by Best Dressed list!

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Red Carpet JULIE BOWEN

With all of this bitter cold in NYC, Julie’s embellished floral Georges Hobeika gown is making me long for spring weather! This gown is like a dream, from the intricate floral details to the sweet bow tie around the waist. Matching perfectly is this caramel Rauwolf clutch.

She too has picked the perfect jewelry accessories from EFFY, specifically these pink ice earrings.

21st+Annual+Screen+Actors+Guild+Awards+Arrivals+7opsfvGSxZjl

Her beauty look is also quite spectacular — Jill Crosby/hair stylist (chic sideswept bob-do, with help from Neutrogena styling products) & Heather Currie/make-up artist (great copper smoky eye & soft pink lip), also Neutrogena beauty products. All products came from the ever-convenient Walgreens.

SARAH PAULSON  TNT's 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Red Carpet

Black & white looks were all over the PCAs, and I’m happy to see it re-appear here. Sarah looked chic and sophisticated in this custom Armani Prive gown with a structured cape top & black silk crepe skirt. The accessories coordinated perfectly, statement-making David Webb jewelry & an ivory Edie Parker clutch.

Maria Menounos

MARIA MENOUNOS

Maria was a golden goddess in this rich brocade gown by Romona Keveza. To further compliment her look, a few delicate diamond Neil Lane jewels.

To match her golden gown, a very bronzed beauty look, courtesy of Denise Borego. And finally, super sexy & straight hair, provided by Dimitris Giannetos.

SOFIA VERGARA  1422240707_sofia-vergara-560_640

Red hot & smokin’, yup, that sums up Sofia’s one-shoulder Donna Karan Atelier gown, complete with gorgeous sheer paneling. This dress is truly captivating, from all angles! And of course she had no trouble selecting some beautiful jewelry, all from her own collection at Kay Jewelers, So Sofia!

ARIEL WINTER

Ariel is fully embodying old school Hollywood glam in this fitted Zac Posen gown with a train. She is really growing into such a beautiful young woman. She’s accessorized with a cute little black Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

Every bit of styling here is perfection — retro waves, courtesy of Aviva Perea; Anita Patrickson for styling; and Spencer Barnes for make-up, a natural, fresh beauty look.

FELICITY JONES

Felicity was a vision in this blush Balenciaga gown, inclusive of a criss-cross bodice. Every aspect of this look was full-on elegance, especially her pearl Van Cleef and Arpels pearl earrings. Her stylist, Karla Welch, gets major kudos for this one!

Reese Witherspoon

REESE WITHERSPOON

Reese’s white one-shoulder custom Giorgio Armani gown is understated, but it’s the very definition of minimalism at it’s best. And I love it! It has just the right amount of sparkle & drama, provided by the matte sequin detailing and a deep scoop back. Leslie Fremar did an amazing job styling this look!

Reese’s selection of Harry Winston jewels were stunning, emerald-cut diamond drop earrings, princess-cut diamond line bracelet, and a cushion-cut pink sapphire and diamond cluster ring.

BROOKE ANDERSON

Brooke looks breathtaking in this lace Jovani gown with an embellished bodice. Her makeup was done beautifully, bold smoky eye & sunkist cheeks, courtesy of Rebecca Epifano. Her locks were also superbly blown out, thanks to Anna Rose.

1422232784_melissa-fumero-560_640

MELISSA FUMERO

I can’t get over how much I love this look. Melissa’s stylist, Annabelle Harron, did a wonderful job. Her Jacob & Co. jewelry pieces were both bold and elegant. There is not anything I don’t love about this Maxime Simoens royal blue gown, especially this color, but very much too the structured bodice. She completed her look with just the right accessories — black Alexandre Birman heels and black geometric-shaped Rauwolf clutch.

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Arrivals

All aspects of the styling were just as great as this dress, Jerilynn Stephens for creating this super sleek straight hair look & Sage Maitri for this dramatic beauty regimen.

KIMIKO GLENN

Kimiko-Glenn

Kimiko’s nude strapless Gemy Maalouf is immaculately stunning, definitely one of my faves of the night. The fit is great. And the tulle sheer detailing on the side gives this gown a special touch. The accessories here are also great — Loren Stewart jewelry, and the styling, SUPERB!! Styling — Lawren Sample; hair, Daven Mayeda, subtle waves, &  make-up by Carissa Ferreri, soft, natural, and beautiful!

Another great jewelry accessory, pretty cool Dionea Orcini earrings.

JENNIFER ANISTON

1422240453_jennifer-aniston-560_640

Jen looked radiant in this vintage Galiano gown, which hailed from the designer’s spring 1998 collection in Paris.

jennifer-aniston-2-290

The peacock-print beading from top to bottom was brimming with elegance. We’ve all been hoping for more than black from Jen on the red carpet, and she delivered!

jennifer-aniston-3-290

The bodychain necklace was of course stunning, but let’s not overlook some just as gorgeous gold and diamond pieces from Fred Leighton jewelry.

Manicurist Tom Bachik swept on L’Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque 1-2-3 in Bold Bordeaux to compliment her makeup look. Such a rich color, and it coordinated perfectly with Jen’s vintage gown.

jennifer-aniston-nails-inline

Naturally, celeb makeup artist Angela Levin was determined to make her face just as radiant to work with her entire look. Using all Chanel products, the makeup pro applied Chanel Lift Lumière Firming and Smoothing Sunscreen Fluid Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to Aniston’s face. The foundation, Levin says, works beautifully on someone with a tan, which Aniston had courtesy of her recent trip to Cabo San Lucas. For Aniston’s lip-tastic pucker, the Chanel artist prepped the actress’ lips with Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydrating Conditioning Lip Balm. Levin filled Aniston’s lips with a neutral-toned lip liner to keep the color in place, adding a quick swipe of Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Sensuel for shine as the nominee was stepping out the door.

jennifer-aniston-435

Now let’s get to this dazzling Amrit bodychain necklace — the talk of the town since she’s donned this necklace style twice in a row for 2 major red carpets. Sat Hari is the talented designer behind this brilliant creation. Hari, who was born in the U.S. and went to school in India, is the creator of the black diamond body chain and necklace that Aniston wore. [Black Diamond “Make Love” Lariat Necklace, $1,800]. Ryan Hastings and Jena Covello introduced Jen to this unique brand.

411df64d94992836d9d02f576f01de271499c5b6

To create her undone, piece-y texture, hairstylist Chris McMillan spritzed Living Proof Instant Texture Mist onto the ends of her hair. You can’t wear a dress like that without a bombshell hairstyle! To complement the dress’ “beautiful bohemian vibe,” McMillan gave Aniston a fresh blowout using a big, round brush. For extra volume, he used Living Proof’s yet-to-be-released product, Blowout (it hits Ulta.com this April). Finally, McMillan sprayed their brand’s Instant Texture Mist into his hands, working the liquid into her ends to create the style’s textured finish.

KALEY CUOCO  1422239194_kaley-cuoco-560_640

Kaley went bold and daring with red, but it was all in all such a sweet look, adorable little bow tie knot belt to cinch the waist. Her strapless Romona Keveza gown was AMAZING!

Andrea’s mint green Escada gown, with a criss cross haltered neckline, is another look that captivates me. It’s ethereal and the details make this dress a stand-out, everything from the lovely color to detailed neckline. The shiny silver accessories are spot on, tiny little sparkly silver Swarovski clutch and diamond Chopard jewelry.

Red Carpet Best Dressed for this Week’s 2 Award Shows!

Yes, it is still very much awards season and this week there were 2 more to add to this list — 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards & the 2014 Critics’ Choice Awards. I was happy to see that a few who didn’t make my Golden Globes best dressed list more than made up for that with a couple of more chances! So 1st up, the SAG Awards list!

156_2331_350          AMY ADAMS

Wow!! I love this popping royal blue look for Amy and glad she chose it! This gown is an illusion dress by Antonio Berardi featuring cut-outs, a very unique neckline, and a sleek, wraparound gold belt. She paired her look with Cartier jewels, specifically, Cartier’s “Tutti Fruitti” earrings featuring sapphire, emerald and diamonds, as well as a Platinum Cartier “Ana” ring featuring diamonds, turquoise and amethyst. She also wore a pair of metallic silver heels by Jimmy Choo.

156_2294_350          ANNA GUNN

Anna looks like a sparkling shining star in this navy sequined Monique Lhuillier gown embellished with tiny beading. She paired her look with matching sapphire drop earrings by Irene Neuwirth and a cool box clutch, by Edie Parker, marked with the hit AMC series’ logo — Breaking Bad.

156_2343_350     KALEY CUOCO

I have to include one look on my best dressed list that looks like a Disney princess gown right! And Kaley certainly looks like a princess in this dove gray, strapless, silk crepe mermaid gown by Vera Wang featuring a classic bustier neckline and silk organza pleated skirt. Her few accessories are all shiny and silvery including her jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz and a Ferragamo clutch.

156_2337_350

SOFIA VERGARA

Sofia is not donning her traditional mermaid style gown, but this strapless, sequined, gunmetal gown by Donna Karan Atelier is certainly not a bad alternative. According to the designer, the dress was inspired by “antiqued liquid metal.” She continued her glitz & glam trend with a diamond-and-emerald Amrapali necklace.

1390089479_elisabeth-rohm-560

ELISABETH ROHM

This nude & white lace Marchesa look is breathtaking and Elisabeth wears it well. What really makes this look standout for me is the nude flower embellishments sprinkled here and there on the gown. Also worthy of a standout mention is the diamond Martin Katz jewelry Elisabeth is wearing to compliment her look.

1390086160_nancy-o-dell-560

NANCY O’DELL

Why yes, I will pick 2 back to back lace looks, although Nancy’s brings the shimmer & sparkle. This is 2 for 2 with looks from Nancy and just as her Golden Globes look made my best dressed list so to did this long-sleeved, form-fitting, blush-colored sequin gown. She accessorized her look with emerald jewelry, including some large diamond earrings.

156_2316_350

KATRINA BOWDEN

Katrina always knows how to pick great looks and this one sure doesn’t fail! It’s a Grecian-inspired, black and gold embellished, sleeveless gown by Badgley Mischka. She paired her look with a black satin clutch and David Yurman gold jewelry.

1390097270_isla-fisher-560

ISLA FISHER

This look reminds me somewhat of Isla’s bridesmaid look from Wedding Crashers. And hey, I loved it there and in this more updated version too! She transcends time in this silk crepe satin gown from Oscar de la Renta’s pre-fall 2014 collection. She completed her soft look with a shimmery box clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo and large jewels with hints of emeralds, which are by Bulgari.

156_2355_350

MALIN AKERMAN

I’m a big fan of Malin’s hit show, Trophy Wife, and also of this stunningly bold look — a black and nude, deco-beaded and crystal embellished gown by Naeem Khan with a tiered ruffle sleeve, from the designer’s Spring 2014 collection. She keeps with her chic & trendy look by accessorizing with a black Jimmy Choo clutch & Neil Lane jewelry.

156_2285_350

ANNA CHLUMSKY

Anna decided to stick with a clear trend for this SAG Awards, navy & blue! This is a very simple look, but elegant nonetheless — a navy blue, silk, asymmetrical shoulder gown with cream detailing from Sophie Theallet’s resort 2012 collection. She kept with this minimal-style look by wearing a few jewelry pieces by Waris Ahluwalia for Forevermark Diamonds.

The Critics’ Choice awards were the perfect time to change things up and go for stunning, but maybe not with a gown. Margot took the risk and it paid off well with this black jumpsuit by Elie Saab that included sheer, floral-embroidered sleeves. She paired her outfit with a matching black clutch by Alexander McQueen & Ileana Makri jewelry.

Sarah is working this fitted strapless red floor-length gown by Safiyaa. She also went for some bold silver accessories with a necklace & bracelet by Avakian and a Smythson on Bond Street clutch. Her Casadei heels are just barely peeping out, but they are visible so also worthy of a mention for the overall look.
