Project Runway – The Best of the Rest

Project Runway season 13 has come to an end, with Sean Kelly being the winner. NYFW is where the finalists show their final collections, MBFW at Lincoln Center to be precise. Fashion Week happens a little before the finale airs. In order to maintain secrecy, other designers will too present collections so that the finalists will remain unknown. As I’m sure many of you have already done, I am now perusing the other designers’ presentations and of course ready to discuss! So here is what I call “The Best of the Rest”!

Korina for sure had my fave collection amongst the fellow eliminated designers. I’m still holding onto such a grudge that she was eliminated early and unfairly. I think she could have done great work in the last challenge, thus securing a spot for herself in the finale. I really dig the vibe and attitude her looks are giving off. The pieces exude such confidence and have the capability of being worn by either chic fashionistas or bad-ass women who dare to be feminine and sexy.

k5

Based on the finalists we saw, I think the judges would have given great feedback to Korina. She clearly demonstrated she was far more than just an “ethnic” designer as Nina so annoyingly dubbed her. I think she showed a greater range than one other finalist for sure. And I also think she wouldn’t have needed quite as much direction as at least 2 of the finalists. She had a clear concept here and stuck to it. She’s demonstrated such growth this season within her own aesthetic.

1k

Korina is another contestant this season who did have a clear vision, a focused aesthetic. And because of this, and what was created at hand, I think she could have done well in the finale. I saw growth from her, right at the same level or pace as that of Amanda or Sean. Too bad the judges were sippin’ on some crazy kool-aid and made the poor choice in sending Korina home before she had the chance to present as a finalist! And as crazy as the judges & I were about Amanda’s jewelry, I am the same level of love-fest craziness for Korina’s booties, which I’m pretty sure she had a hand in creating! I know they are not from Aldo and they fit  too perfectly with her looks to not be a part of her design-work.

3k

This look above is one of my faves. Honestly there are too many faves to pick just one! But this one represents so well what Korina’s collection is about. She works well with leather. Her jackets or outwear are TTDF! She works well with texture, mixing of various fabrics. She can do more than just dresses, her separate pieces are divine, such a great fit. She also had a great use of color, bold red, sunshine yellow, soft teal, and royal blue. All of the colors worked well together and were paired nicely with basics in black and white.

4k

Other great facets to her collection, the color-blocking, excellent fits, and good proportions. Other finale collection pieces certainly had some execution issues, but I didn’t see that with Korina’s looks. Poor fit and execution should not be issues a PR finalist has. And really, by that point, a designer’s clear voice should be heard. And we have all of this with Korina!

k7

There is always a question about what cohesion means. Generally it’s a multitude of things, but cohesion shouldn’t mean 1 fabric throughout a collection or the same colors. There should be more. And with Korina, we have connective colors, similar vibes, ultimately having the same girl wanting all of the pieces. I see that here. There can also be a story. Unsure of Korinas’ since we didn’t hear her thoughts, but there are still other cohesive points to discuss. There is color-blocking, patterns, styling, and more. This was more than I saw from another finalist!

1k0

To Korina, great job. I want your pieces and will keep an eye out. I would proudly don any of these looks. I know we will see more from you in the future and I can’t wait!

9k

fäde’s collection was too quite impressive overall. I don’t think his intricate work with prints was truly able to flourish during his time on the show. He is really about pushing the creative bounds, being innovative with his print work. And more often than not, a day or less is just not a sufficient amount of time to really develop this type of work.

2f

Now this is the way to incorporate words or phrases into looks! For the runway, you can’t just stick a word on a boring top and expect that to cut it. Is it wrong to make a sweatshirt or basic tee with words and put it down the runway? Absolutely not! Wildfox, Desigual, and other brands do it all the time. But the point is to still be exciting; you still must amp it up somehow. And fäde did just that!

1f

He of course is a master with prints, but really showed he could work well with his great use of color. It was the perfect idea of a graphic print work to incorporate a teal or burnt orange, and just play around with those colors – various shades, mixing textures, etc.

f8

He also showed a great deal of versatility. He not only made some stunning dresses, but really worked well with separates too – jackets, shorts, pants, and more!

1f0

When you can tell a model is having genuine fun rockin’ a look, I think that speaks volumes! So either these girls can add “great actress” to their resume, or they were authentically having a fun time!

9f

These are just a few of my fave looks, but really I had so many to choose from so you will have to forgive my lack of ability to pick only 2 or 3!

4f

fäde also gets shout-outs for Philip B. hair, a little chic yet messy distressed hair-do; it really worked with the streetwear vibe, but also Mary Kay for beauty – very clean, natural make-up look, spot on with the bronzed cheek!

6f

Alexander had some great looks, but my main issue was cohesion. I remember when Tim told Sean during the finale, part 1, that his collection seemed like it was divided; there were 2 different presentations. I think I saw this with Alexander’s 10 looks. I saw pieces that were more sportswear-oriented and then ones of a more refined, elegant level. I’m just not sure I got the connective thread, except that both were still executed in a simplistically minimal manner.

a5

a10

This is not to say I didn’t like the various pieces, but I’m still not sure Alexander has developed a clear vision for where he wants to go as a designer. I’m not sure if he would be ready to make a brand for himself. But I have no doubts he can get there and I would look forward to seeing his development and growth as a designer!

a4

I think this was a decent start for Alexander though. Over time, I’m sure he can work with a great foundation in the basics he already has at his disposal, and just work with developing some “Alexander” signatures to add to his pieces.

a2

It was great seeing the versatility though, lots of separates and beautiful dresses. I’m interested to see where Alexander can go from here for sure!

a9

6

Next up, Emily, who too was cut right before the finale, barely missing her chance at being a finalist. I think she is another designer this season who had a clear voice, a clear vision. I think with her final collection we saw her aesthetic, but with a bit more sophistication; it had a more luxe feel or quality to the various pieces.

7

Emily made use of some great work with sheer pieces. This stunning turtleneck sheer top above was immaculate! I don’t think the judges showed much love for Emily over the season. But I wonder how they would have reacted to her work, but turned up a notch as she did with this presentation.

4

The vibe was somewhat luxurious, but still youthful and chic street. There was a wide range for her type of girl to choose from — shorts, great tops, day dresses, or even some more elegant night-time looks.

9

A lot of her fabric choices caught my eye, especially the sheer printed tops. I would love to know if she screen-printed her own design on them, but definitely would be intrigued to learn more!

5

There was a little flare with her show, some volume, some structure in the pieces. So that was great to see RTW, but also with a little dramatic umpf.

3

Upon my first few glances for Sandhya’s looks, I was quite confused. This was a different side of her work as a designer with more understated looks. Sort of as with Alexander’s more basic vibe, I’m not sure I was over the moon about Sandhya’s more simplistic looks. I think they were executed just fine, but I wasn’t sure how much I was seeing Sandhya in them or that they stood out, being memorable. This was just such a new facet of her work so it was a bit perplexing, nonetheless intriguing.

1s

But later with her collection, the more DIY side of Sandhya came back. I understand the desire to go avant garde, to create a bit more show-y pieces. As we saw from our 4 finalists, this was not their direction and it made sense based on their aesthetic. But for Sandhya, going with this more dramatic flare route made sense. I still feel her looks read very DIY though and not high fashion.

10s

There were a few looks though where I might have thought differently or could have changed my mind if I had seen them in person. And these are looks I wouldn’t mind getting a more up close and personal visit with to better gauge my reaction! Let me be Zac Posen, who always made sure to get really up close and personal when doing his final judge’s critique! Actually, I really commend him for caring. He judged from his seat, but when it came time to really study the looks up close, he was right there, looking so closely. Other judges tended to hang back some, their prerogative, but I was glad to see Zac with genuine care or concern!

9s

8s

7s

All in all, I’m still not the biggest Sandhya fan, but I did see some improvements with her work since she had more time. I think she still needs a bit more time to work out some kinks though!

2s

Until next time ………….. but stay tuned as I will also be blogging about PRAS!!

Project Runway, Definitely a SMH Kind of Season!

I wanted to opt for a cutesy or cliche title this week, like “Project Runway Meets Storage Wars”, or something like that. But by episode’s end, I just couldn’t. I’ve been livid & frustrated with this season since episode 1. There has been a lot of discussion about the season being more about the drama than the fashion. It’s been clear to me that the focus was more production-oriented than on the designers and their talent. So as a result of this, forgive me then if my recap is more focused on the edited drama we get to see! Also be warned, this vent-session, my soapbox, has only just begun as I’m still SMH!

a-soapbox

But before getting to all of that, let’s set the backdrop and see what the designers had in store for their challenge this week. The designers woke up to a surprise Samsung tablet, watching Heidi teasing a bit with the challenge details. She was saying the key was to unlock creativity and imagination. The group was then off to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to meet Tim to find out more details They enter a huge warehouse and see Tim standing in front of 5 storage bins, the mind being left to wonder….

Screen shot 2014-10-04 at 2.08.58 PM

This was going to be another team challenge, pairings being Kini/Amanda, Char/Sean, & Korina/Emily. Each team was given $500 in order to bid on the various storage units. Other specifics, 2 day challenge, 2 looks, which had to be cohesive. Emily & Korina picked up 2 bins, the first for only a whopping $25! They would be able to make use of some upholstery from furniture and another bin, which had a variety of pieces, including an old wedding dress. Char & Sean also lucked out with 2 units, one that seemingly only had a long blue tablecloth and a couple of dressers. This left Amanda & Kini with sadly only 1 unit, not filled with really any fabric, just a bunch of kids’ toys and all things perfectly fitting for a playroom.

consix

The designers were left with only 30 minutes to collect what they could use for their looks. Later, it was learned that the winner of the challenge would win a full year’s supply of hair care products & styling, all courtesy of Philip B. hair. The teams were off to work for Day 1 of this 2-day challenge. Kini and Amanda were very in sync, having a lot of fun popping soccer balls & what not! Emily & Korina also were working well, agreeing on their vision. It was Sean & Char who were having a little difficulty early on, Sean being worried about what Char was going to be able to accomplish on her own.

pr13-ep11-episode7

Day 2 began with a early Tim visit. The designers knew something was up! And of course, it was. He dropped the surprise that each team would be responsible for another cohesive look. In knowing they might need some fabric, a Mood trip was in order with a $100 budget. As both team members didn’t have to go, Sean, Amanda, & Korina decided to make the trip for their teams. Tim time came later in the day. He was not so sure about Emily’s use of a chair cushion as he thought it was clear it was in fact a cushion. He also had some doubts about Char’s look. But it was Amanda & Kini’s looks that Tim was most concerned with. He thought, wow, is this for a teenage hooker?!?

pr13-ep11-episode1

This left Amanda & Kini to rework a lot within their collection, and they did just that. I was vastly impressed by the turnaround so I give major props to them! Enough with the background, let’s get to this heated & tension-filled runway! This week’s guest judge was former PR winner, a huge success story from this show, probably one of the most successful, if not the most, yes, none other than Christian Siriano!

pr13-ep11-episode32

Let’s discuss first, the easiest pairing of the week, the designers who were in no danger of going home, the clear winning group — Kini & Amanda. This pair had the least amount to work with in their bins. They also had the least amount of fabric or even fabric-like items to choose from. They then suffered a harsh critique from Tim. All of this aside, they still managed to deliver a vibrant, colorful, creative, and fresh mini-collection.

-project-runway--7sea

**Side note, loved the Aldo jewelry here, perfectly coordinating jeweled bracelet & earcuffs. The 2 really worked well as a pair. Their pieces had a great story. With what little they had, they made it all work so well and really presented some strong pieces. This is their combined look above, Kini w/ the black full skirt and Amanda with the graphic top.

-projec8t-runway--sea

Above is Kini’s solo look. I’m actually not a fan of the look with the jacket. But hey, as you will see me say again later, if you don’t like a jacket just take it off! But the dress, made of soccer balls, was quite spectacular. I get the judges love-fest over it, but for me, this piece wasn’t so cohesive with the other looks, but standing alone, it was fine. I’m not sure the winner here was so clear-cut, but I’m happy for Kini and another win for him!

-project-6runway--sea

But Amanda for sure deserves some kudos as well. She was the lead on wanting this unit because of a psychedelic yetti painting. She created some great pieces for the runway and I loved both of her tops this week. Also, more shout-outs, love the many bangles from Aldo, the luscious curly waves from Philip. B. hair, & bold make-up look by Mary Kay, the cat-eye, slightly red lip.

pr13-ep11-episode24

Discussing everyone else is not quite as easy since the judges strayed from their traditional norm of a top, safe, & bottom group this week. It’s happened before, but whenever PR doesn’t stick to its traditional norms, I’m left to question why & SMH. PR is known for team challenges. Heck, they even had a full season dedicated to just working in teams. We’ve seen time and time again that a given team might have a weaker designer, but because the team had a higher score, that team was safe. The clear bottom team this week should have been Char & Sean, so again, with this not happening, just picking a bottom team, I do wonder why! It would have been so surprising were the bottom group to have been Emily & Korina over Char/Sean.

-project-runw7ay--sea

There was a lot to take in with these 3 pieces, a great deal going on, but it actually works! If you don’t like a cape or jacket, again, take it off. Guess what, there is still something  under that is creative and wearable. Many of these looks could be mixed & matched, very versatile. Who wouldn’t want a mini-collection with some options. In fact, having only 3 looks, for me, wouldn’t be enough at this point. So with this pairing, and even with Amanda/Kini, the outerwear could come off or be paired with another look. This combo look above of Emily & Korina I thought was great for their story. You could see it in any colder weather area, NYC, London, Paris, and more! Nina clearly had something up her butt with this collection and I’m not sure why. I question her take on fashion that she can’t separate the higher level of creativity and practicality in this collection versus that of Sean & Char. And Korina’s leather leggings here were great!

Shout-outs also to the chic updo by Philip B. hair & the Aldo accessories, boots & yes, even the hats! This is a runway show, give us a little drama and that means if you can amp it up with beauty accessories, do so! And again, questioning Nina, what was wrong with the red lip here, but it was okay the darker, somewhat red lip with Amanda & Kini?? The Mary Kay beauty look was great, less dramatic eye paired with a bold red lip works for me!

-project-runway-8-sea

The judges have been so illogical and wonky with their critiques and resulting decision-making this season. I’ll get to that more later, but Emily was very much deserving of safety this week. I agreed with Tim earlier on, worried about the shoulders, but on the actual model, the issue didn’t seem as apparent. This was a great outerwear look, paired perfectly with fashionable, chic separates. I’m still not sure why this outerwear piece was so well received, but not the others in this collection. I guess that is just one of the many questions I’m left with after this episode.

pr13-ep11-episode23

So again, I feel very sure and fine in saying Sean & Char should have been in the bottom this week. I in no way felt Sean should have gone, which means, yes, Char would have been out of the two. What bothers me about this 1 hour “Save Me” Challenge, which we’ve seen on PR before, is that I don’t think we would have seen it had the judges just picked a bottom group, which is what they should have done. And yes, the judges loved Sean’s jacket, but he was also responsible for the not so impressive sheer mesh looks, and has fluctuated between the top & bottom all season. But again, I don’t think this 1-hour challenge would have happened between Sean & Char, and I think it was very much unfair to force it upon Korina & Char.

And were these 3 looks not too similar?? We all remember an earlier challenge this season where Hernan, Carrie, & Sandhya were slammed for creating 3 similar looks, hmmmm, and this wasn’t almost the same thing! Another reason, leaving me SMH!

pr13-rr-ep2-cs-f      pr13-rr-ep2-sg-f

-pro2ject-runway--sea

In looking at one of Sean’s solo looks, I’m still just SMH as to how the judges just didn’t pick a bottom group. Think back to the fact that this pairing won 2 storage units, one of which Sean dubbed as the best of the bunch. There seemingly bare unit, in fact, ended up having more than what met the eye. Poor Alexander was eliminated last week, in part, because he had 2 days, a decent budget, and the judges weren’t impressed. Where was that train of thought for this group of pieces. I just don’t think there was enough here to justify 2 days worth of work. And yes, you could say fashion is not all about bells & whistles, sometimes more minimal looks work. But this is not simplicity at it’s best! And models not being able to walk down the runway, or at least struggling a great deal, really?? This isn’t enough to justify the judges being able to clearly distinguish between a safe group & a bottom one!! Come on Project Runway producers, if you are at least going to show your heavy hand, be a bit more discrete about it!

-project-runw3ay--sea

So as much as I am coming down on Sean & Char’s team, I do think Sean shouldn’t have gone home this week. Had Char’s one piece been a knockout, then it could justify sending Sean home since his lampshade gown was not great. But the judges gushed over his blue jacket so really, he would have never gone home over the 2. I’m not sure why there is so much love over this jacket. It’s not one of Sean’s stronger pieces for me.

-project-runwa4y--sea

Going back to Korina’s solo look, I again feel shout-outs are justified for another chic updo by Philip B. hair & the Aldo accessories, namely here, YES, the hat! But looking at the entire look, I don’t think, again, that the Korina/Emily pairing should have been the bottom group. And the groups & resulting elimination should have been judged as a whole team. But clearly the judges wanted to sing a different tune for some reason this week, and they singled out one designer from I guess 2 bottom teams — Korina & Char. I think back to bottom looks of PR seasons past and I’m not sure why this look would be in that realm. I’m not sure what was up with Nina this week because it was only her coming down so harshly on Korina. If the you don’t like the cape, fine, take it off, the look is still great. And Korina works with a signature Southwestern, cultural vibe. That is her aesthetic, one of her signatures. When all of a sudden on PR is it not okay to be who you are a designer. Amanda’s aesthetic is very boho-chic, 70’s throwback, and the judges don’t feel the need to chime in for her continued use of that signature; so why Korina?? Still SMH!

-project-2runway--sea

The 1-hour challenge I would give to Char. But I don’t think that was even needed. Comparing Char’s original challenge look to Korina, Char should have been eliminated. The reason I question the 1-hour challenge is unfortunately based off of Char being in the bottom 2. I’m not sure that she reads my blogs, so I mean no disrespect to her as a designer, but this is a competition show, and one must go home each week. I think PR should not continuously save someone. No designer should have that many chances and Char has had a few this season. Tim saved her. The Tim Gunn save is fine in my book, but at that point, why the judges would feel the need to offer her another chance, I mean really?? It makes no sense! Last week, with the whole Zippergate issue, Tim sort of stepped in to save her again. The judges might have had a whole different mindset looking at Char’s look come down the runway with a busted zipper. Another issue I had with the Char/Korina face-off is that in every other group, each designer had a solo look and took part in a combo look, all except Char.

So as much as I disagree with the 2nd twist this week, Korina & Char were then forced to face-off in a 1-hour “Save Me” challenge. Each lady had 1 hour to create a look of their choosing. They were to use the remaining fabrics leftover in the workroom. Also, they could make use of their partner from this week. Korina clearly let frustration takeover and she bit off more than she could chew.

Korina clearly was throwing some shade & an attitude, but I’m sorry, it was understandable in my book. Go back thru my comments for this episode, the judges stray off course, were not making any sense with their comments, and then have you to face off against a designer who has been given like 9 lives in the competition. I’d be pissed too!

-project-runway--sea

Char’s 1-hour look was way better, but had the judges not played a bit of the favorite game, we wouldn’t have seen this look. I’ve mentioned my mind being left to wonder all throughout my post and here is what I think. Char & Emily have yet to win a challenge, whereas Korina has won twice. She could have been the dark horse to make it to the finale. I think the powers that be really want it to be Amanda, Kini, & Sean in the finale. I don’t have a problem with this, but at least let it happen fairly, naturally. Emily & Char, I wish y’all the best of luck in breaking thru this force-field, but basically reiterating what Sean said, I think it might be easier now to make one’s way to the finale facing off against Char. If the designers are saying it, again, it makes me wonder if someone else wanted things to go this way as well!

-project-runwa5y--sea

And yup, you got it, still SMH! This is a major Shame, shame for me with PR this week!

Project Runway Firsts this Week

There are 2 firsts worth mentioning — Zippergate & a really stern critique from Tim Gunn. Before getting to those specifics, let’s set the backdrop with this week’s challenge instructions. The episode was all about creating a makeover. Keeping a “make”over in mind, Tim Gunn had global makeup artist and Mary Kay makeup consultant Luis Casco alongside to further discuss the challenge details for the week.

Luis%20Casco%20-%20Project%20Runway

The designers were off to Washington Square Park in search of a muse. They had to look for the average, everyday woman, not a model. Working with their client, the designers were to create a look that would give their muse a makeover. The prize for the winning designer/muse pairing was a feature for a Mary Kay ad in Marie Claire magazine. Finally, a challenge with an actual prize! Was this the first for the season??

14414

They had 30 minutes to find someone and then 30 minutes to chat & sketch. It is NY, so at first we were seeing a great deal of “NOs”! Sean seemed to be having the most difficulty, but was finally able to locate a winner. It was then off to Mood to begin this 2-day challenge, with a $200 budget. Later in the 1st day, Luis Casco would make a consultation visit with each designer & muse to figure out a beauty look for the makeover.

pr13-ep10-episode6

Getting back to the workroom, an early focus was set on Kini, who was having another case of designer’s block. It started while at Mood and continued on as Day 1 endured. Luckily for Kini, this was a 2-day challenge and he had plenty of time to get back on track. It was Alexander who was out of luck this week and with the 2-day challenge not being of much help. His bad news was delivered on Day 2, not leaving much time to re-focus and re-work his look. This situation was also the 1st of two Project Runway firsts in this episode.

pr13-ep10-episode10

Tim time was certainly par for the course in most aspects. But when it came time for Tim’s talk with Alexander, it was definitely a PR first. Tim said this was one of the most “hideous garments he had ever seen.” This was quite shocking to me! Tim should be very honest in his critiques. But I can think of many other times such extreme words could have come out of his mouth. I 100% disagree that out of every PR look we’ve ever seen in the workroom and during Tim time that this was the most hideous! In fact, this statement even could have been uttered a couple of times this season!

pr13-ep10-episode9

Alexander’s major freakout moment was certainly warranted. But he soon shook it off and was back to work. He was not quite ready for model fitting time, but he was able to explain his new vision. Mostly we saw a lot of happy models during their fittings. There were some great pairings made, lots of fun interactions between the designers and their muses.

pr13-ep10-episode16

The morning of the runway brought us the 2nd PR first for the week, now being dubbed as “Zippergate”! The designers were running around with last minute adjustments and fine tuning as per norm. Somehow as Char’s model was getting dressed, the zipper popped all of the way off, leaving the model’s entire side exposed. The problem — it was time to go to the runway so the designer’s work time was up! We have seen plenty of times where Tim has had to give stern warnings about time running out. Tim said had this been any other week, with regular models, the dress would have been left as is. The model would have walked fully exposed on the side.

But this week, with non-models walking the runway, he didn’t feel it would be fair to this young lady as she was a guest. Char had an extra zipper she could easily put in so Tim presented to the other designers a question, if it would be okay if Char were given 10 extra minutes to insert the new zipper. Of course the other designers, being put right on the spot, in front of all of the models, said “Yes.” As soon as they got to the holding room though, they were all soon quick to question their decision. They knew it would have been awkward to have made a fuss in front of everyone. And they couldn’t take back their decision, but it was a question of fairness as all are given the same amount of time each week. It’s a PR mandate that when Tim says “Let’s go to the runway” that time is up! Char coming back to the holding room was certainly AWKWARD!

pr13-ep10-episode40

The judges also took notice that the runway started late. Heidi asked Tim about what was going on, but he requested to discuss it after the runway and initial critiques were given. Two lovely guest judges joined the panel this week, actress Michelle Monaghan and TV host/model Asha Leo. The top & bottom 3 seemed fairly obvious. But even with 3 clear looks for the bottom, it was still a bit difficult as all of the model muses seemed to love their makeover looks.

I did want to give a quick shout-out for Sean’s look, still sticking with the season of fringe! I thought he really listened to his muse Lelia. She is an actress and singer. This black fringed dress could work as an upscale performance look or at an industry premiere of some sort. She looked elegantly stunning. I loved the sheer neckline. It was as if Sean had channeled old Hollywood retro glam to create this delightful number.

-project-runw3ay--sea

I’m not sure why this look wasn’t given any top 3 consideration, especially since Emily’s look wasn’t unanimously loved for a top 3 spot. Also Mary Kay shout-out for Sean’s beauty look — great pop of red for a bold lip!

As mentioned, Emily’s flamenco styled look made the top 3. The judges at first seemed to not all be in agreement about this placement. But Emily’s muse, Julia, was certainly a fan! She may have even helped in changing a judges’ mind or 2 about this look. Emily & Julia had an instant connection over a French fashion designer Thierry Mugler. Their amazing bond led to this dramatic creation and it was clear Julia loved it!

-project-runwa5y--sea

The judges still thought it was a bit too costume-y. Many were not a fan of the ruffles, but thought the use of red was a great choice. However they did agree since Julia was so in love with the look that this was a positive. Nina said it was Emily’s best work so far this season. Shout-out for Emily’s Aldo shoes selection — perfection with these black heels.

Even with early onset designer’s block, Kini still managed to gain another top 3 placement. A full on jeans look is not my cup of tea. I’m not sure if I would wear this look, but it works for his model muse. Originally she was not a fan of a jean on jean look, but soon changed her tune.

-project-run6way--sea

There was still some mixed judges reviews. Most thought the look was cool, but maybe a bit too serious for a date night. I’m not sure where that train of thought was coming from. It’s not as if this look was super formal. In fact, it was fairly casual, which is quite fitting for date night. I wouldn’t see it being out of place at a regular, everyday restaurant or bar. Maybe the heels gave it some sort of escalated appeal, but the heels were for the runway. This look would work and be just fine with flats as well.

This left Korina rounding out the top 3 and being the clear winner for the week. Her model muse was Shelby, a ballerina. And in this look Korina created for her, she was definitely a bad-ass ballerina. Let’s first just dedicate a full on lovefest for how great this royal blue leather/houndstooth mix jacket is. I mean who would not want this jacket! The whole look was just so chic and really worked for Shelby!

-project-runway7--sea

But the greatness doesn’t just end with the jacket. When the jacket comes off, there is a super cute, feminine frock. It was a LBD with so many nice touches — razorback and crinkle pleats. Job well done Korina and very much well deserved win! Shout-outs also for Korina’s choices with Philip B. hair, super chic & sleek, & Mary Kay, another great bold red lip!

I hated seeing Amanda in the bottom 3, but she was having an off week. I knew she wasn’t in danger of going home and not all of the news was bad for the look. The judges didn’t think the length of the black leather vest worked with the dress, but all loved the vest nonetheless. Another great aspect with this look was just how much Amanda’s model muse Eva loved the look. The judges also agreed the direction was right, but the execution was off.

-project-runwa1y--sea

The dress was very short in the back and Nina mentioned the hem was off. Zac thought the look was a little outlet mall-ish. Shout-outs though for Mary Kay makeup look with a great smoky eye & Philip B. hair for luscious waves!

The bottom 2 was quite obvious. Being that it was Char & Alexander it does leave the mind to wonder how Zippergate impacted the results. Say for instance Char’s model had walked the runway fully exposed. Would she have gone home instead of Alexander with some clearer execution issues? My guess is no. The judges didn’t know about the zipper issue when placing Char in the bottom 3, but seemed to know about it before making their decision on sending Alexander home. They knew she was given 10 extra minutes to insert a new zipper, but the zipper wasn’t their issue.

-project-2runway--sea

The judges didn’t think Char paid much attention to who her client was. Her model muse is a pre-school teacher and this look didn’t seem quite fitting. Char mentioned her muse’s husband being a rock musician and her needing looks for his shows. But Nina was quick to pipe in that there is a way to look cool, look sexy, but still be sophisticated and appropriate. The judges also added in the fit was off, it was too short and had too much going on with the peplum jacket. I agree! I will say I love these sexy heels from Aldo, but not for this look. It kind of made her look a little hoochie-ish.

Ultimately, the judges had more issues with Alexander’s look and it being too plain, not matching of the $200 budget given. This left fan fave, designer Alexander, going home. He went a wrong direction this week and then ran out of time trying to re-work a new look. This new ensemble had some execution issues and was very blah. His model muse Marisa seemed to be okay with it, but the judges were not letting that impact their decision. They also learned about Tim’s harsh words and that Alexander had to start over.

-project-runway--sea

The judges were also not a fan of this new look being so Spring-like, but with wintry, heavier fabrics. I wonder though had Alexander stuck with his original choice would he still have gone home? I get Tim was not a fan of the look. And yes, some of the shapes on his original piece did resemble amoebas. But the reason I ask is because at least there was something to his original piece; it might not have come off as so boring, too plain. Another PR mystery left unsolved!

Next week, it seems we are back to many types of challenges we’ve seen numerous times this season — unconventional & teams!

Project Runway Goes Super Cute this Week

Yep! So much about this week’s episode of Project Runway was just down right super cute — the American Doll theme, the designers working with kids, the kids being the models and thus, getting all made-up & rockin’ the runway! Well……almost everything was super cute, minus some designer tensions and the norm judges’ critiques — not quite as warm & fuzzy!

pr13-ep9-episode1

Tim Gunn & Heather Northrop, Senior Design Manager of the American Girl Doll brand (also one of this week’s guest judges), delivered the challenge instructions for the week. The designers had to create age-appropriate looks for younger models, again, young girls (ages 9-12 I believe was the range). American Girl has been freshening & expanding their brand via fashion with “BeForever” — taking from signature classic doll looks, and creating modern, wearable styles for girls today. Each designer would be paired with a BeForever character to create a young, modern look for children to wear.

pr13-ep9-episode4

The designers had 30 minutes to sketch and learn about their doll’s character and life story. They could read the doll’s attached storybook, glance around at displays in the American Girl store, and even ask questions to their young models. For this 1-day challenge, American Girl provided fabrics the designers could use. But a Mood trip was also still an option, with a $150 budget on hand.

pr13-ep9-episode6

Sandhya was certainly a focal point of this week’s episode, generally not a good sign with how PR likes to foreshadow results with their editing magic. So first, we saw a little tension at Mood between Sandhya & Korina due to Sandhya interrupting Korina’s time with a Mood employee. We also saw Tim & Sandhya disagreeing quite a bit during his consult, leaving Tim to say that he often doesn’t get what she does, but the judges seem to like it, so I will leave you be. And then as the designers were back to the Gotham apartments, Sandhya was frustrated over other designers not understanding her point of view or aesthetic. Many viewers are on the same page as the designers though! But I think what Emily had said during her confessional was spot on. It’s hard not to take things personally when it involves your work, your designs, something which is of course, so personal to the creator. On the other hand, when the judges critiques make zero sense as to how someone landed in the top 3 or won a challenge, questions are going to arise and confusion will clearly surface.

pr13-ep9-episode20

Kini was experiencing an early designer’s block, but Speedy Kini was soon back and stronger than ever as he completed several different looks before settling on the separates he chose for the runway.

pr13-ep9-episode12

Tim & Char were also on different pages this week during his consult. He wanted her to ditch the fringe, but she decided to keep it with the look. Heck, even her doll’s look had some fringe and with this season also being a season of many fringe looks, why not right! It definitely worked in her favor as she snagged a top 3 spot!

pr13-ep9-episode16

Emily was another bit of a focal point during this week’s episode. She has her own children’s clothing line. This should have been her challenge right! Wrong! She actually landed in the bottom 3, more details later!

pr13-ep9-episode11

The morning of the runway came and a few were still in busy bee mode. Joining American Doll design manager Heather, was Mad Men actress Elizabeth Moss.

pras03-ep7-GuestJudge_elisabeth2

pr13-ep9-episode37

The top this week was pretty clear cut, not much disagreement in my opinion. As mentioned earlier, Char did not take Tim’s advice in ditching her fringe. Char’s look definitely deserved a top 3 nod! Many looks this week seemed more on the mature side for kids, but Chars’ was very age appropriate. She chose bold colors, but they were super fun and also going with my title for this post, Super Cute! The fringe vest was clearly part of her doll, Kaya’s story.

This look was a modern take for Kaya, sticking true to her ancestry, story, and roots, but clearly youthful and updated. She stuck to the challenge and deserves the great compliments received from the judges and viewers!

-project-ru8nway--sea

Shout-out also for Philip B. hairchic side braid, complete with a bow matching her tan fringe vest.

tumblr_inline_n7fkj0PLg51qas9c0

Korina worked on a modern look for Josefina. I’m very happy she landed a top 3 spot with her super cool, super cute, graphic, and fun tiered look. It was so well deserved! I’m not sure if she finished her tiered patches exactly the way she wanted to. I know she was working up to the very last second. And so I think if she had a bit more time she could have won this week. But hey, top 3, not too shabby at all!

-project-r6unway--sea

Just as Char did, Korina too was spot on with the challenge. She really stuck to Josefina’s story and created a modern look. It was very touching that she included the color yellow, which was integral to her doll’s story — I believe it was related to the loss of her mother, and so Josefina always integrated yellow into her wardrobe somehow. Shout-out also for Philip B. Hair, the pigtail braids were perfect for the character. And, a shout-out to Aldo, I’m assuming this was their red hat, but nonetheless, it was perfect for the challenge.

samantha-thumb-320x371

Rounding out the top 3, and this week’s winner, was Speedy Kini! Kini’s look was a bit mature for a 9-12 year old, but young girls love to, on occasion, get a little dressed up. There is no harm in a child having a look or 2 in their wardrobe that is not for the everyday, but for a very special event or moment. Kini’s plaid dress and coat were so well made and the dress really had some nice touches/details — the cutouts, the volume, etc.!

-project-run5way--sea

I think it’s important to remember that this look was supposed to have a connection with the Samantha character. And with that in mind, I believe he did create a modern look based off of the doll’s character and story. Shout-outs to Philip B. hair for this wavy do and Aldo Shoes for the perfectly coordinated black flats.

F7134_main_1

Sean has been riding a top 3 & winning look stride for the past few weeks, but this time around, he narrowly escaped being in the bottom 2. I think a couple of judges had more to say about Emily’s look so this was his saving grace! Generally, a look that is too basic is almost always in jeopardy of going home, but again, Sean overcame that hurdle as well. But that was his biggest issue, this look was just a bit too bland. It does look super comfy, but I think Nina was spot on in her critique. Julie was in the era of the 70s, a time where use of color was so prominent, and this look was all blue, full pun intended!

-project-2runway--sea

There was an updated market with boho chic that Sean could have taken with his design direction, but this print, the lack of color used, was a missed opportunity.

image.asp

Emily’s resulting bottom 3 placement, well really bottom 2, was the surprise, for me, this week. I did think with her already having experience in making children’s clothes, having her line and all, that she would have not been in jeopardy of going home. In fact, when it came down to her & Sandhya, I was for sure she would end up going because the judges seemed to be so enamored with Sandhya. Had this happened, surprising feelings would have been in addition to unfair, shocking, and much more heat-filled emotions!

-project-ru3nway--sea

Speaking to Emily’s look specifically, there were aspects I liked, but also, some I didn’t. The knit top and the netted face mask were the latter! I don’t think she needed the face piece since her tulle voluminous skirt was enough of a show element. The younger model clearly was not a fan of it either! The knit top also seemed very dated — not much of a modern feel for Rebecca. I did enjoy the luminescent tulle skirt though. In fact, I thought this skirt was very fun and playful! I think paired with a different top, the direction might have been more accepted by the judges. But with this top, the judges thoughts on the look being a little frumpy, too dark of colors, kind of made some sense. I’m still not sure she deserved such harsh critiques and a bottom 2 placement, but hopefully she can bounce back strong!

F1390_main_1

This left Sandhya rounding out the bottom 3 and going home this week. Honestly, when I saw this look, I clearly thought it was worthy of elimination. But after last week, and her crazy clown-like ensemble being in the top 3, I really didn’t know what the judges would think. Because they finally seemed to be on the same page as me, I can’t say I wasn’t 100% pleased with this decision. I’ve not been a fan of many of Sandhya’s looks this season. But my frustration and overzealous confusion arose because the judges seemed to love her looks, yet never clearly explained why.

-project-runway--sea

And I get a designer going out on a look they love, but clearly Sandhya was not having any critique this week. First she bypassed Tim’s comments and then, she clearly disagreed with everything the judges had to say. I know a ton of girls in the age range of 9-12 and I can’t think of any who would want to wear this, making them appear much more baby-like. Taking a more costume-y look like Emilys’ or a more mature look like Kinis’, girls would want to wear those because they get to dress up a bit, pretend they are a bit older. But Sandhya’s look for Caroline really did look like a child’s onesie. I don’t think she got what age appropriate meant for a child. Yes, a look can still be fun and playful. But what a child might wear at the age of 3, is not something children would want to wear at 10. Many of Sandhya’s looks this season have lacked sophistication, this one included. I’m glad the judges were finally able to see this and that they made the right decision with her elimination. Creativity and risk-taking are always appreciated in my book. But the end result, or a designer’s overall portfolio of work, should have some sense of high fashion and/or sophistication, not just DIY looks with way too many elements going on.

Question, so now that the designers don’t have immunity anymore, will there at least be something in store for the winning looks each week?? For example, this week, will Kini’s look actually be sold thru American Girl — did I miss that announcement?!?

PR Recap Time — Rain Rain, Go Away….

Hah! No sense in finishing that song because for Project Runway, the truth is, the rain should never go away! On PR this week, the regular runway was out the door. And in its place we got to see the 1st ever PR RAINWAY! Rain was pouring as the models strutted down the runway and I loved it all — great designs and a great show!

pr13-ep8-episode2

Heidi & Tim were front and center this week to not only introduce this new rainway, but also this week’s challenge. The designers were to create avant garde looks, which of course had to withstand the rain. Fashion and technology were compared when discussing innovation being essential, being able to push the boundaries, such as with Samsung’s new Curved Ultra HD TV. As technology pushes the envelope so too should the designers. They were encouraged to be forward thinking, cutting edge — creating a look that would WOW from every angle.

shopping

The designers were more than happy for their 1st 2-day challenge this season and were joyously off to Mood with a $300 budget. Tim added that heavy duty construction items for structure and contours would be available for use in the workroom as supplementary materials. But before the designers were off, PR of course displayed some editing foreshadowing magic as we already knew fäde was struggling a bit in this challenge with designer’s block. It was nice to see that Amanda was there for him during a tough time just as he was there for her when she was having a rough week — love those PR friendships!pr13-ep8-episode10At Mood the designers were of course all bumpin’ into each other in the same section of the store — VINYL, thinking of that rain! They were soon back to the workroom to learn how this 2 day challenge would work, Tim coming later on the 1st day, and the models would be there on the 2nd day. Tim time of course saw some great words of wisdom — Kini to watch for gimicks, wonderment for if Sean’s effect would come thru. But my 2 faves were with Amanda and this is the season of the vagina! And for Alexander, April showers will bring May flowers!

pr13-ep8-episode17

The designers were able to un-wind just a bit for this week since it was a 2-day challenge. In between day 1 & 2, they were back to the Gotham Apartments to let loose a bit, enjoy some wine and food up on the rooftop! The morning of day 2 also allowed for some time to make calls to home, so those were a few nice moments to see from each of the designers.

pr13-ep8-episode5

Day 2 also brought about a new decision for Korina to change-up her look. It was then time for model fittings and Sean’s dye effect was still in question. But how great was it of Kini to offer some friendly advice!

pr13-ep8-episode22

The morning of the runway was typical, full of a bit of chaos — preparing for a new runway, last minute adjustments, some looks beginning to come apart, and yes, Sean was still worried if his magic moment would come thru without any issue.

pr13-ep8-episode34

Guest judge this week was Showtime’s Master of Sex actress Caitlin Fitzgerald. I totally forgot Caitlin was on Gossip Girl, which is a show that of course almost had fashion as its own character, thanks to the very talented costume designer Eric Daman. Ironically, Caitlin was “working” at a very upper level fashion position with W Magazine! But back to PR and this amazing runway presentation we got to witness, what a show! I’m still not clear on how the top 3 came about, but heck, that happens almost every week for me with PR.

The top 2 though, was abundantly clear. All 4 judges were singing the praises for both Kini and Sean. I’m happy Kini finally got his win, even if it was shared with Sean. I think Kini was just as much deserving, if not more.

-project-r5unway--sea

Sean’s look was magical in its full blown, dye coming out moment. But the “before” was just a plain white dress, and the “after”, an abstract dye-stained result. The avant garde aspect was for sure in the exact moment the water hit the garment and made the dye start dripping out. So again, happy Kini got his win, but Sean for sure deserved his top placement kudos as well.

pr13-ep8-episode30

Sean definitely exemplified art coming to life this week and there was no doubt you could feel the magic of this moment. And the great aspect, you won’t get dye on you since there was an underlayer cover to protect your skin from the dye. It would be super fun to be out in the rain during a summer rainstorm and have all eyes on you as your dress was constantly changing. Shout-out also to Sean for picking some perfectly coordinating white heels to go with his look from Aldo shoes

-project-ru6nway--sea

But for me it was Kini who hit the homerun, not only a homerun, but knocking it out of the park. This look was head to toe stunning, a full on show, avant garde piece. Every detail was so well thought out and this was just such an eye-catching piece. I was right there with Zac and knowing that all faces would be lit up in seeing this black umbrella-inspired number. Some of the judges were not a fan of the hat, but I thought it was perfection for his runway presentation. The winning aspect for Kini was his look didn’t need the rain to come alive, it was just as vibrant and dynamic even if the rainway was not in existence. I have to also give a beauty shout-out for Kini’s Mary Kay make-up look, great shine on the complexion and I loved the bold red lip!

-project3-runway--sea

The third spot of the top was confusing for me though, with Sandhya getting it. The reason for confusion was not simply because I was unimpressed, but because of the judges commentary. There were some positive statements, but it seemed as if only Heidi was fully on board with this look. So I’m just not sure how with only 1 judges support, out of 4 judges, that she scored high enough to garner a top 3 placement. I didn’t realize a look of bright colors automatically means happy, which then equates to fashion. Nina was right on point in saying this look lacked sophistication, very circus-y and child-like. Sandhya told Tim she was able to edit extremely well, but I’m not sure where her editing eye was with this look. There were not only too many bright colors, but there was way too much going on. Come on judges, if you are really going to try & sell this as a top look, at least sound convincing yourself when you critique it! Because there were 3 other safe looks that probably had mixed reviews as well and certainly ones that were at least fashionable avant garde rather than looks more fit for an unconventional challenge. I mean it had pinwheels just thrown about all over the back right!

-project-runw2ay--sea

Speaking of safe looks, I was a fan of Alexander’s floral number. It looked great coming down the runway and purple was such a great color to mix in with this look. Also, he gets a Philip B. hair shout-out, great chic bun! And finally, a Mary Kay beauty shout-out!!  But I have a Sr. beauty consultant with Mary Kay on board this week to further detail this make-up look. Meet Lauren Barker and see what she had to say! And really so many of the looks made use of a bold eye this week, so the “Graphic Eye Tutorial” below is a great resource for this runway!

“Those models were gorgeous in our bold Mary Kay colors!  The ladies looked great in our Peacock Blue Mineral Eye Color, True Dimensions Lipstick in First Blush and Gel Eyeliner in Black just to name a few.  Want your own runway look?  Luis Casco gave us a glimpse at how to make the perfect Graphic Eye Look with a two-tone cat eye.  Follow these steps to get runway-ready! -project-runway--sea

Shout-outs aside, let’s move onto the more unfortunate news — the bottom 3. Korina landed in the bottom this week, but of course was there ever any real concern?? She did have immunity, the last one! Clearly a last minute change-up didn’t work in her favor. I got what the judges were saying with how flimsy and unfinished this look was. I did however love her choice of Aldo strapped heels!!

-project-ru4nway--sea

Emily was filled with confidence all during this episode, but the judges ended up saying this look was not strong enough. The look was a bit more superhero than avant garde, but it did have potential. I think if she had focused more on structure and volume for the look, not so much added details with the shoulder pads and gloves, then the judges might have been more on board. Heidi was somewhat more favorable, but the rest of the judges were all about the look being so predictable and something they’ve seen before. Another great Aldo shoes look — love the black booties!

-project-runwa1y--sea

This left fäde as the one who went home. It didn’t come as much of a surprise. He just lost it this week and was uninspired. I have no doubts he is a great designer, but PR is a show that pushes you to be creative at the snap of a finger, needing something new for each challenge. He just hit a block as writers do all the time. Just as the judges said, it wasn’t strong, not enough for an avant garde challenge.

PR Designers Get to Meet Some Major Bling!!

So yes, courtesy of Chopard jewelry, the Project Runway designers were fortunate enough to select some immaculate pieces of jewelry to work with this week. Not exactly work with hands on because as we later saw, it was very much “lookie, but no touchie”! The Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele, was with Tim to further explain this week’s challenge. Caroline would also serve as this week’s guest judge.

pr13-ep7-episode20

The challenge this week was to create an extravagant eveningwear look inspired by Chopard jewelry pieces. But not only would the jewelry serve as an inspiration, the looks would also incorporate the jewelry. Yes! This meant the models would get to don some very expensive and luxurious pieces of jewelry! Tim reminded the designers this was their moment to WOW the judges, pull out all the stops. Chopard is often seen on the red carpet so the designers had a great deal to live up to. Here are just a few examples of some looks incorporating Chopard that I’ve included on my Fashion Nexus Best Dressed lists!

The button bag was back this week. So No Sean, you didn’t get to pick what jewelry piece each designer would work with! Although really there were no bad options. Sean did get to pick first though and whether it was production’s hand in the mix or not, I’m glad Kini was able to choose second. He should have won last week so it only seemed fitting he chose toward the beginning of the bunch. Before heading off to Mood for this 1 day challenge, $250 budget, Tim came by the workroom for a couple of additional surprises.

First, Tim decided to make use of his one-time only Tim Gunn Save. So yes! Char was back in the game! Was the save a bit too soon? Perhaps. Regardless, it at least means that the designers know from hear on out, there are no second chances left. Each week you have to go big or go home. Heidi also announced this was the last week for immunity. So really, every week from here on out, the designers have no choice but to step it up!

pr13-ep7-episode6

The 2nd bit of news from Tim was a field trip to provide some additional inspiration for this week’s challenge. Everyone was off to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to take in the Charles James exhibit, which was of course the unveiling exhibit for this year’s 2014 Met Gala, aka Met Ball. Charles James was a major fashion designer in the 1950s; he is widely known for being America’s first couturier.

elettra-getty-main_2817438a

As the designers got back to the workroom, I was pleased to see that the drama of last week seemingly was no more. KUDOS ladies! But a new battle was rising………the battle of the navy blues that is. Both Sean and Samantha chose a navy blue fabric to work with this week. So of course the question was on both of their minds as to whose navy blue gown would come out on top.

pr13-ep7-episode10

Other workroom happenings this week as we breezed thru Tim-time and the model fittings — it seemed as if “Speedy Kini” was not around; Samantha was making her very 1st gown; and Amanda was really battling with the direction of her design.

pr13-ep7-episode8

The morning of the runway was full of the norm chaotic last-minute craziness. It was then time for the runway presentations where we saw that poor Nina had a bit of an ankle injury this week :(, complete with crutches and ankle boot!

 pr13-ep7-episode31

The judges said this week, overall, they were impressed. And even when Heidi was announcing the winner and who would go home, she said again, how the designers had all really done a great job. This was not my sentiment at all. For me, I guess the bottom was a bit more shocking because I thought other designers could have ended up in the bottom just as easily. I’m not sure that all of the safe looks were executed perfectly, but it did seem that each of the bottom looks had some execution issues. So my assumption is that some of the safe looks I considered a bit of a yawn were likely safe because execution mistakes were either not present or not obvious.

-project-run4way--sea

Kini’s look was definitely one of mixed reviews. I knew he wouldn’t end up in the bottom 2! I’m not sure what it was with the white looks for the runway, but they didn’t seem to have a luxe feel to really match the jewels; this includes Char’s dress as well. I was surprised that the budget this week was only $250 being that the designers were working with such expensive pieces of jewelry. Perhaps if Kini had a larger budget he wouldn’t have chosen neoprene. Kini clearly had a design concept, and with a different fabric, or even in a different color, I think it would have paid off more. The bodice did have issues though! However I’m sure Kini can bounce back! Mary Kay shout-out: bold smoky bronzed eye!

-project-runway-2-sea

Alexander also had a great design concept, but it was too much to execute well in such a short amount of time. One of Alexander’s biggest issues was that the neckline did hide this stunning ruby necklace. But also, the gown really just felt overworked. And the back was definitely worse than the front.

pr13-ep7-episode28

However from this angle, you can get a better view of my hair shout-out from Philip B. hairlove this chic bun! I also loved Alexander’s beauty look, so Mary Kay shout-out as well.

-project-runway--3sea

This left Samantha being eliminated this week. I don’t think this was the worst dress of the bunch. There were several dresses that were a bit of a snooze-fest, very basic. There were looks that also weren’t very red-carpet worthy, whereas at least Samantha’s gown could have worked on a red carpet. I think it could have used a necklace though! But in going with the judges bottom 2, it usually represents a designer who did too much and one who did too little. Generally, the designer who did too little goes home. But I loved Samantha kept her model’s hair down this week, Philip B hair shout-out for wavy tresses!

-project-runway--sea

I got where the judges were coming from with this week’s top looks. They were clearly not looking for dresses that were a yawn. Rather, they rewarded risks! They wanted looks that could work on the red carpet, that lived up to the Chopard jewelry pieces being incorporated. Amanda’s look was definitely a risk. It paid off for all of the judges, minus Zac. This was clearly a look that would be loved or hated. It would end up on some best dressed lists, but perhaps for others, the worst dressed. I applauded Amanda for being different though and taking a risk. Safe designers take note! I loved the neckline for the jumpsuit and was pleased Amanda did pay attention to both pieces of her look. Finally, Aldo shout-out, a pair of heels I can see and that coordinate well with a look!

-project-runwa5y--sea

Sean’s strapless gown was not bad, but seeing it come down to him & Korina for the win, I am happy Korina received that honor. I’m not a huge fan of velvet. But the neckline with this necklace was also throwing me off. That sapphire necklace, while insanely gorgeous, I think is insanely difficult to make work with a look and not have it be too much. For this look, the Chopard jewelry all seemed a bit too much. But compared to the very safe looks from the other designers, Sean deserved to be in the top. His gown had such a great fit, and as he described, a very regal feel to it. The back was also quite stunning!

-project-r4unway--sea

Korina really pulled out all of the stops this week, just as Tim said at the start of the episode. How risky was it to use an upholstery fabric and as Sean mentioned, not have it look like a couch! The long printed coat was soooooo Korina. It was bold and statement-making. She also did a lovely job with the black dress, showing that the look could work even without the coat. But really, the look paid such homage to the dramatic, dangling Chopard necklace. It certainly was the best matched look to any of the Chopard necklaces for this challenge. Korina took a risk; it deservedly paid off. She created something different and stuck true to her aesthetic. Great bold beauty look & shout-out also with Mary Kayfull details below!

PR Designers — Goin’ to the Chapel and……

Well that’s about it — no traditional wedding details for this week or these Project Runway designers! This week the challenge instructions began with very much a wedding-like set-up, complete with Tim Gunn and this week’s guest judge Dita Von Teese walking down the aisle. It was then that the designers learned for this week, they had to create an unconventional wedding dress. They were to throw out traditional wedding dress rules (white gowns!) and create an alternative wedding look. It was a “no rules” challenge, but the designers were reminded the look shouldn’t be a costume; it had to be believable for a bride. This was a very intriguing challenge for me as I just put together an entire posting about if another traditional wedding rule should be tossed to the side — should you, as a wedding guest, wear white to a wedding?!?

pr13-ep6-episode3

But that wasn’t it for the challenge! This week, the designers also learned they were going to work in a team of 2, with a mission to create a corresponding reception look. With it only being a 1-day challenge a team of 2 could certainly be needed, but of course for every designer I’m sure it wasn’t wanted! I was happy the button bag was back to make the decisions this week and not having a designer just make the pairings. But of course, if it was acceptable for Sandhya to have a magic wand over a weekly challenge, why not let Sean have a go at it this week??

pr13-ep6-episode14

This week’s pairings were fäde/Emily, Alexander/Samantha, Kini/Sean, Sandhya/Char, and Korina/Amanda. It seemed as though most of the groups were setting sail in Paradise, except for one — Korina/Amanda. Now I’m not sure where all of the drama came from this week with these 2 talented ladies, but I say, as Joey from Full House would — “Cut it Out”!

joey-gifWe later saw that Char was in on the tension as well. All we know is Korina “told” Amanda she was phony, Char agreed, and really just a bunch of hearsay ensued. It’s not an unbelievable story as we all know women on competitive reality shows are often catty and tend to not get along. But PR never bothered to elaborate or show any background to this drama — THANKS PR! The ladies have seemed fine up until this point so I’m hoping the drama blows over! I want the ladies back this way!! —

pr13-ep6-episode5

Luckily for Amanda this week, it was Super-fäde to the rescue. I enjoyed seeing how compassionate and sweet he was to Amanda. So at least there was a positive amongst the unnecessary drama! Getting back to the actual PR design competition, the designers were next off to Mood to make use of their $400 budget.

pr13-ep6-episode13

The workroom time was full of expected happenings this week — Tim-time words of wisdom and caution; questions on compatibility of a given group’s looks; and of course, as we approached the morning of the runway, there was a whole lot of running around. So many looks were nowhere near being finished! In fact, as Tim gave his final warning calls, a few designers were still fast away at sewing — CRAZY! Of course, “Speedy Kini” was present & accounted for this week so his look was not one experiencing such craziness, but he definitely had to come to the rescue for Sean’s look!

pr13-ep6-episode17

I was really concerned as to how this runway was going to turn out — Korina being so unsure of her design, and both Sandhya and Char barely finishing their super totally major full-on solid bold yellow looks! Joining the judging team of Nina/Heidi/Zac was already-mentioned Dita Von Teese and super-famous fashion blogger/designer Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad. So what did the judges have to say this week??

 pr13-ep6-episode35

This week not only was traditional wedding attire thrown to the side, but so was the traditional top 3/bottom 3 categories for the designers’ looks. Basically what I saw was 1 safe look, 1 clear winning team, 1 clear bottom team, and 2 teams where the judges weren’t all on the same page. We saw that Korina kept changing her design this week, she was sewing until the last minute, she & Amanda weren’t always on the same page, and there was a point where we were left to wonder if there would be pants for the model to wear down the runway! With all of that said, it was Korina/Amanda who were left safe. I’m sure they both felt such a huge sigh of relief!

-project-runw4ay--sea

Coming in more towards the middle of the pack this week was Team Emily/fäde. Emily’s look, as seen above, was the one of this duo where the judges had more disagreement. Nina thought it was over-the-top goth, as did Chiara, but she at least thought it was editorial. Heidi didn’t mind it as an alt. bridal look. Surprisingly Dita was not a fan at all! I thought it might have been a bit over-the-top, maybe a little too much going on with the lace and cut-outs. But for a bride who wanted a darker ceremony, I think there was a market for this type of look. We all saw 27 Dresses right!

another-dress

The judges were a bit more fond of fäde‘s look. And I have to say I totally was team fäde this week!

-project-run5way--sea

Heidi wanted more cleavage and Nina wanted more length, which were very differing critiques. But I was focused on just how amazing his innovative self-created pattern was this week. The lace and paint details were just so stunning, very eye-catching. The major problem for this team though was that the looks were not harmonious. I would not see the same woman wearing Emily’s look for her wedding and fäde‘s dress for the reception.

-project-runw5ay--sea

Team Alexander/Samantha were the next pairing, more so in the bottom 2, but there were some positives with Samantha’s critique. My positives are towards her look details this week — love the black platform Aldo shoes, luscious waves from Philip B. hair, & bold beauty look (dramatic eye, nude lip) from Mary Kay. Nina was not a fan of all of the embellishments, but this look should never have been considered for elimination and I’m happy it wasn’t. I’m not sure why the judges were throwing shade at the bottom portion of her dress, something about how it looked as if wine had been spilled on it. If I recall, a winning look this season looked as if it was an old-stained piece of drapery, yet a barely recognizable 2 shades of burgundy gets called out — Okay judges! Samantha’s dress was definitely wearable as a reception ensemble and I very much saw the connection to her partner’s look.

-project-runwa2y--sea

The judges had far more to say about Alexander’s bridal piece. They were not fans of it at all! It was dubbed as being over-designed, with way too much going on — all the lace, all the embellishments. For me, I wasn’t a total fan, but nowhere near the judges’ issues. I think less embellishments, maybe more spread out (to lessen the heavy feel of the bodice), and of course, let’s take out the obvious seam on the lower portion then this look might have been more acceptable. Alexander too gets a Mary Kay makeup shout-out since both he & Samantha made use of a bold eye and nude lip. I also loved his chic up-do courtesy of Philip B. hair. But none of the judges negativity even compared to that of the clear bottom team this week — Sandhya/Char.

-project-runwa1y--sea

The judges dubbed this team’s look as Big Bird and Tweety bird, quite fitting with the massive amounts of yellow used. Yellow is not as difficult of a color to use as everyone made it seem. In fact, Amber Tamblyn had a lovely yellow wedding look and we see yellow as a needed pop of color on red carpets all the time.

amber-tamblyn-yellow-wedding-dress

I could easily see women wanting yellow as an alt. wedding dress, but the problem with this team’s looks this week was not the color, it was the designs and resulting executions. Sandhya spent a great deal of time on a braided bodice and it really did look as if she tried to drape a bed-sheet for the bottom portion. If she wanted to work with a more detailed bodice, she perhaps shouldn’t have tried to execute a draped bottom, which is something she said she was unfamiliar with doing. PR is all about 1-day challenges, so get fancy with the top, keep the bottom simple or vice versa. But trying to put so much detailing into the top and taking on a new design technique for the bottom clearly spells out DISASTER! Sandhya can take this lesson and move on as Char was the one who was left eliminated this week.

-project-runway--sea

I’m not sure what was going on with Char this week. I think Sandhya took a stronger hand with the design & shopping process this time since with her last group challenge she didn’t maintain herself as a designer in her group. So for this group challenge, I think it was Char who lost herself. The up-close judges viewing/critique certainly displayed a lot more that was wrong with this look. Char claimed to have run out of time, but Nina questioned where all her time went. Char just didn’t have a clear vision or concept, and it resulted in a poorly executed look, which we saw was a glaring issue for so many in last week’s challenge.

This left 1 group clearly being in the top this week — Kini/Sean. But it wasn’t without some strong judges’ opinions!

-project-runway--se6a

Sean’s look was great this week and he ended up with the win. But what really brought the judges to fully loving this look was the chic, sophisticated white top, which Kini made!! As great as Sean’s pants were, I thought it in no way compared to Kini’s immaculately designed bridal look. As Dita said, I would wear Kini’s look as a bride, but for Sean’s look, I could wear it on a Tuesday. But for Sean, lovely curled up-do by Philip B. hair and perfectly coordinated black sandal heels from Aldo. The guys worked well together, with Kini swooping in to save the day! And if this resulting look was Sean’s design concept then I think it very much worked as part of the team’s overall story and was deserving of some recognition. But it was just such a shame that Kini missed out on a win, Again!

-project-runway--s7ea

This week’s decision was just another example of the judges not making sense with their logic. Both looks had great movement and were very chic. But Kini really kept the challenge in mind and was the only one to fully execute the harder of the 2 looks — the bridal garment!! It was important that Nina mentioned should Kini get the win because he deserved it or because he’s due for a win, was it just his turn? And I’m happy Heidi stood firm in that this look was fully deserving in it’s own right of the win. We saw at least 3 decent reception looks this week from Samantha, Amanda, and fäde. On the other hand, we only saw 1 fully believable bridal look. I thought that would have meant something. Kini’s look had flair, drama, and would certainly make any bride be the center of attention, even though not wearing white. I do not think it was over-designed or over-the-top. I really wish Kini was given his earned win this week!

Similarly to Sean’s hair look, Kini also gets a Philip B. hair shout-out. I also enjoyed his Mary Kay beauty look — it was very fresh, natural feeling.

Next week — “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”!! Can’t wait!!

Wait….Hold the Phone — Did PR/Ep. 3 Take us Back to the Movie Challenge??

Just kidding! But wow, how many movie references did we get in this episode — Clueless (Team Kristine now for sure, lol!), Star Wars (Ewok talk), The Matrix, Planet of the Apes, Mary Poppins — that was all right?!? As for the real challenge this week, the designers received their marching orders while sitting amongst a sea of Marie Claire magazine covers. Tim Gunn and Marie Claire’s Editor in Chief, Anne Fulenwider, provided the details for this week’s challenge. Anne was also one of the guest judges this week.

pr13-ep3-episode2

The challenge revolved around the celebration of Marie Claire’s 20th anniversary, 1994-2014. The challenge details — to use the Marie Claire magazine covers, from 20 years ago, as inspiration to create looks the designers feel would be relevant 20 years into the future. Really the designers could use any past inspiration to create their look, but the point was to imagine what could end up in Marie Claire in 2034! It’s the future of fashion thru the designer’s filtered aesthetic!

10482611_10152653734451202_845757674245878315_n

Everyone enjoyed trips down memory lane — images from 20 years ago and tales of times’ past. Most of the designers finally enjoyed their 1st trip to Mood! So the designers were then off to shop with their $200 budget for this 1-day challenge. Kini was so cute during this episode! I’m sure just as he exclaimed, everyone was so happy they could finally choose their actual fabrics!

10550985_10152642621671202_6112939199100523948_n

There wasn’t a lot to report this week from Tim-time to model fittings to the morning of the runway — nothing out of the ordinary — some craziness, Tim cautions, panics — the usual! There was one additional guest judge this week and that was renown British photographer & TV personality Amanda de Cadenet. So with no further delay, the runway was surprising on many levels this week!

So thankful that Tim provided the perfect examples for facial expressions I had during this episode. As I saw the designers working, the future for sure looked dark and cold, with the exception of Mitchell who had a wet future in mind! I thought “Boy, this runway will be disappointing, bleak, dark, gloomy!”

pr13-ep3-episode6

But then as the runway show commenced I became ecstatic, pleasantly surprised!

pr13-ep3-episode23

Many of the designers really stepped it up this week. I was impressed! As the results were coming in, I will say, Heidi’s extra commentary and blasting, as she did on Angela last week, was again totally unnecessary for Amanda! This expression of hers quickly faded!

pr13-ep3-episode7

But again, very annoying comment by Heidi. After hearing who was in the bottom 3, there is no way Amanda would have ever gone home and I’m not certain she would have even ended up in the bottom. But as far as facial expressions go, my face went back to this as all of the final results came in,  mainly the winning look.

pr13-ep3-episode6

This season, thus far, has been so conflicting. Generally my frustration comes from the bottom looks and who goes home, not the top looks and resulting winner. I’ve been trying to formulate my thoughts and critiques for Sandhya so that it doesn’t come off that I want her gone or that she doesn’t have potential. In fact, my only true negative thought about her was from last week and it only came about because the judges said she had the worst look and were it not for her immunity, she would have gone home. I agreed — she had the worst look. That is all hard to let go of.

But my issues really boil down to these “wins” she’s being given. It doesn’t make sense. The logic is just not there. And clearly from the many viewer comments I’m seeing, I’m not alone in this. And the main issue then that her questionable wins create is from the resulting immunity. Because as we saw just last week, immunity saved her, not her talent. I don’t think this will continue to happen. And I hope it doesn’t because it should be her talent that keeps her in the game, not the immunity. But so looking at this week……

-project-r2unway--sea

I had no issues with Sandhya’s look this week. Was it my fave or in my top 3? No! But I definitely didn’t have it in my bottom 3 either. So just as the 1st week went, okay, she ends up in the top, fine. But to win again, especially after I intently listened to the judges comments makes 0 sense to me! What makes even less sense is Sandhya, even though in the top, still received negative critiques. Heidi called it comical and did so at least 3 times. She even made the comments as she was critiquing the other ladies in the top. So clearly she meant business and usually Heidi’s say-so is more of a final say-so. Kristine on the other hand had 0 negative comments about her actual look. The only negative was from Nina and that was on her make-up & accessory choices. So this is why Sandhya’s win makes 0 sense to me. Kristine had all 5 judges’ support. At most Sandhya had 4, and maybe even 3 because Zac didn’t sound fully convinced during the later up-close critiques. If the judges are going to undeservedly give a win, then at least be positive during the critiques, as they did the 1st week. It still might sound like BS, but at least the comments will match up to the result!

I will end on a positive though for Sandhya — great job working with the Mary Kay team for a futuristic beauty look. It really amps up the runway more so than the same deep purple look pretty much every other designer made use of this week!

pr13-ep3-episode38

So let’s now take a look at Kristine’s garment, which was actually 2 pieces as compared to just 1 — a jacket with cut-outs & a chic white dress. I will say I agree with Nina. The huge hoop earrings and bubblegum pink lip were not great choices. But the ensemble as a whole, really fit the challenge. There is very much a futuristic vibe here, but practical futurism, not comical, which is the term Heidi used a lot during the critiques. Kristine took inspiration from the movie “Clueless”, which came out in 1995. She took elements from the various wardrobe pieces in the movie to translate into this look. And this makes sense because fashion is often about bringing back trends and elements, and I applaud what she did here. The look was editorial, edgy, and had lots of great details. I would totally rock this look. I feel as if Kristine was robbed of a moment here and hate that it was done so with no real explanation!

And rounding out the top 3, a surprise in my book, was Emily! Just for the sheer fact that Emily stepped it up so much this week, I would have been fine with her winning over Kristine. This is of course assuming the judges comments matched up, lol!

-project-runwa8y--sea

Emily seemed weak the 1st two weeks for me — the design, execution, etc. But it wasn’t enough to call her out on and I’m glad I didn’t because she turned it around here. This look, altogether, kicked ass. The jumpsuit had such a great fit and I loved it was cut-off instead of longer. The cover-up was also great and perfectly executed. I think this is not just any typical jumpsuit that you see all the time. The cut and silhouette is what brings up a futuristic vibe for me, the going back to a style likely seen 20 or 30 years ago, but with a modern take. I think layering is a concept many designers used during this challenge as well. And I think that very much speaks to the future of fashion. For me, this is great work that is very much deserving of high praise & recognition! She also gets high marks from me with the entire package — Aldo accessories (perfectly coordinating black pumps, great statement necklace), Mary Kay beauty look (love the smoky eye!), & Philip B. hair look (what a chic and amazing up-do!).

The bottom was more so obvious this week. It was surprising that Alexander & Sean ended up there because they started the show off pretty strong. It made sense that Sean was not the bottom 2 though.

-project-run1way--sea

I love the Aldo black booties, but not for this outfit. I also loved the hat, very impressed he took the time to make it, even though it meant he had to rip up the poor Mood bag. But maybe he should have not worried about the hat and more on the garment. The judges said something about people not liking turtlenecks. I love turtlenecks! But the issue here was the jacket. All in all it just looked frumpy. And what was with the wrinkles and crooked hem? There was still some decent design elements here so I think that is what saved him and I know he can bounce back! I mean that straw dress was phenomenal just last week!

Alexander was also a surprise this week, but it’s clear what happened here. He screwed up his first executed idea, panicked a bit, had not a lot of time left, and this is what we end up with!

-project-runway--se1a

This textured dress was pretty much just a yawn — so plain, so simple, so basic. There just wasn’t much here to critique. And what is there to critique, it’s not good. The hem seemed sloppy, not intentional. The fit was not great either, too loose! I did like the grey Aldo peep toe booties though!

But I think that it was obvious he would stay and Angela would go being that she ended up in the bottom again, was harshly criticized last week, and continued to receive a great deal of screen-time attention as the episode progressed.

-project-runway--sea

Angela had a great idea here, as the judges mentioned. But there was some wrong moves here — the color, not typical for Wall St. or a business suit and too much of a stretch, even 20 years from now! I think she should have maybe done a shade of blue or even green if her goal was to steer clear of black or grey. The look was also far too tight and short for a business suit. I’ve worked in professional environments for close to 10 years now and this type of look would certainly get me some attention, but not in a good way. Again, great concept, just not well executed. And I think because other designers had not been negatively focused on, it just didn’t work in her favor this week.

And finally, a few other shout-outs…..

-project-ru6nway--sea

Samantha I feel was also a bit robbed this week. This look not getting any recognition is just sad! First off, we all can count right? Look at how many pieces she created in just 1 day! And not just made, but they all look well-made. I really feel as if this is a whole look, more so than just a basic dress. Samantha’s future didn’t seem comical as Heidi kept saying about someone else’s work. And it’s futuristic, just not over-the-top!

-project-runw5ay--sea

Mitchell’s look I’m still contemplating over. I have to be honest, sometimes I look at it and I don’t like it. But other times, I kind of dig it. I definitely would love to see this top paired with jeans. I think there is something here, but the reason for my shout-out is because of the Aldo accessories (loved the grey peep-toe booties & coordinating clutch) & the Mary Kay beauty look (anything besides the purple or violet lip many others used!)

-project-runw3ay--sea

And finally, Korina’s shout-out is for her Aldo accessory selections (love the sheer mixed heels & hip sunglasses), but also the Philip B. hair look since there were so many up-do’s this week. It was nice to see someone rockin’ their luscious tresses!

Project Runway Season 13 — Intro, Let’s Go!!

heidi-klum

Yes!! I’m so excited that Project Runway, Season 13, is back on Lifetime, kicking off later today. I always look forward to blogging about PR and the amazing interactions I have with fellow PR fans. But before the 1st episode tonight, I thought I would put together a little introductory post. First up, let’s discuss the “Runway Redemption”!

PR decided to bring back the “Runway Redemption” twist from last season, which gives a previous designer the chance to get back in the workroom. One change for this year is that with the return of a previous designer, it will make for a total of 19 total designers competing. But in reality there is 1 final audition for this group of designers and 3 will not make the final cut. Last year’s recipient, Katelyn Pankoke, and her chance for runway redemption, was a bit more full-proof. But this year, with 3 designers being cut so quickly, will a full runway redemption happen??

42IEqgfJa1DBE5Dmww-z7a4XDK0-v_58RMDmM3sv9aM-332x332

My prediction is yes, since the 3 who are competing for the runway redemption are already familiar with the PR process. The 3 designers who competed for America’s votes were Ken Laurence (Season 12), Alexander Pope (Season 12), and Amanda Valentine (Season 11). Kate also took part in Season 11, you know, the one with all of the forced team competitions. That season to me always seemed a bit unfair. I still contend it would have ended differently had the designers not been eliminated based on the bottom group. There were always a couple of designers in the higher scoring group who were only saved because they were in the top group. Because of that, I rooted for Kate to have a real shot at the title and so with that, I also rooted for Amanda. But it’s anyone’s guess and I imagine whomever America chose will be a force to be reckoned with during Season 13!

Another major PR twist is also returning — the Tim Gunn Save! Justin LeBlanc received the save last season so I wonder who, if anyone, might be awarded the save this year. Also in store this season is the ever-famous and popular accessories wall and this year’s sponsor is ALDO. No Michael Kors again, but everyone else is back as per norm — Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Zac Posen, & Tim. In addition, there will be some huge guest judges joining “Project Runway” this season — Emmy award winning “Modern Family” actress Julie Bowen, Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss from “Mad Men,” Shay Mitchell from hit series “Pretty Little Liars,” Olympic gold medalist downhill skier Lindsey Vonn, entertainer Dita Von Teese, fashion designer Christian Siriano, British television personality and renowned photographer Amanda de Cadenet, and YouTube celebrity Bethany Mota.

Aldo Yorkdale-174                                        Aldo Yorkdale-339

I thought about going thru each designer’s past work, picking a few faves, who might go home first, etc. But really, 18 designers are just way too many to go thru. And then 3 are going home in the 1st episode!! It’s just way too hard to predict at this point, but I did put together some initial thoughts for each designer. In addition, I’ve selected a few fave pieces of previous work from a few of the designers, so here goes —

  • Alexander Knox — I see Alexander likes to play with volume and is a little more on the avant garde side. Will timing be his downfall? Can he create RTW?
  • Angela Sum — Angela clearly has done bridal & already had some runway experience. This should be a huge advantage for her in this process.
  • Carrie Sleutskaya — A designer who creates both womenswear & menswear — huge plus!
  • Char Glover — A little lacking in past work examples compared to other designers so will this impact her longevity in the competition??
  • Emily Payne — Designs with comfort & wearability, but can she design at a higher level of fashion??
  • Emmanuel Tobias — Looks for men, looks for women — I’m seeing someone who can definitely put on a show! Early fave, maybe so!

  • fäde zu grau — A streetwear/urban designer, very different, I wonder how he will fare in the competition.
  • Hernan Lander — He has presented during NYFW/MBFW. I’ve even been invited to his shows, but was not able to attend to see his work firsthand. But I expect he can go far in this competition. He’s already had celebs wear his pieces too — Rumer Willis??
  • Jefferson Musanda — I see he can create his designs, but he might have to step it up for PR — peplum & drop crotch pants won’t be enough for the win. So can Jefferson push it to the max?!?
  • Korina Emmerich — We know Nina loves a good jacket and/or coat — will these 2 be Fashion Besties!
  • Kini Zamora — He seems to have a great range so it should translate nicely on PR.
  • Kristine Guico — She’s not afraid of bold prints or daring silhouettes, but will the judges be fans?

  • Mitchell Perry — Another designer with a wide range, but will his POV come across clearly to the judges?
  • Nzinga Knight — On the other hand, a designer with a clear POV, but will the judges love it?
  • Samantha Plasencia — Editorial, made for print, also some looks for men, another who should be ready and raring to go for this grueling PR process.
  • Sandhya Garg — A woman who can design for women, but another one I could see who may need to step it up for this design competition, push the boundaries more.
  • Sean Kelly — 1st designer of this bunch who designs for men, but I didn’t see any pieces for women, yikes!
  • Tim Navarro — A lot of versatile designers in this bunch, including Tim, who design for both men & women, handles on separates — should make for an interesting season!

And of course, we can’t forget PR’s major prize package —

  • $100,000 from Red Robin to launch their business and the opportunity to design a fashion accessory for all the Red Robin servers — NOT SURE ON THIS PRIZE STILL, NO CAPSULE COLLECTION OR DIRECT WAY TO GET A DESIGNER’S 1ST PIECES TO CONSUMERS & FANS??
  • a complete sewing and crafting studio from Brother International Corporation
  • a premiere entertainment center, courtesy of Samsung
  • a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine
