PR Designers Take it to the Street!

Project Runway began this week with a model brunch at a Brooklyn rooftop, teaching Tim Gunn the art of “selfies.” Meanwhile, Heidi was telling the designers they were off to meet Tim at this Brooklyn rooftop for the challenge details. Tim informed the designers that the models would be the client this week, in need of an outfit for a day off, #ModelsOffDuty. The models own personal street style, in this look, would then be captured by a photographer, to be shown during the runway show.

The models chose the designer they wanted to work with most. For this challenge, there was a $200 Mood budget, and 1 day to “Make It Work.” The Tim-time critiques included the models. And this week’s guest judges were country singer Kelsea Ballerini & designer Georgina Chapman.

I was pretty much in agreement with the judges’ top picks, although I would have included Batani! You could see her designer POV, but she also gave her model what she wanted. That delicate balance was struck!

I was not super impressed with the designers overall this week, so hoping for more in weeks to come! But again, in agreement with the judges, with Kentaro nabbing the win! I kind of thought this challenge was about streetwear, but I think that word was just casually thrown around a bit! But Kentaro’s look was streetwear and perfect for what any model could wear on a day off! It was well-made, very cool, overall just a great look! His model, Meisha loved it as well!

Shawn was also in the top, and I guess the bit of scandal on her look this week was that Claire assisted, but that it also might be a “knock-off” look. The judges this season have been quick to call out things they have seen before and they said no such thing here. Was this overly unique? No. But it was cute, trendy, and what the client, Janine, wanted, Yes!

Kenya rounded at the judges’ top 3 and I could see why this happened. Personally, I didn’t love the color/print combo and overall, it felt a bit momsy. I felt as though she was a bit surprised herself in this top 3 placement! I think it was Heidi who was not on board completely here, but this was very much a subjective look. But her model, Sanita, really did werk the look!

Moving to the bottom 3, I am not sure if this would have been my 3, and in that, I am still a bit perplexed in Samantha being sent home. I’ve seen many that say one of the twins should be out, but in this case, Claire wasn’t even in the bottom 2. Her look was very safe. The judges were correct in noting it needed a pop. And the shorts were short! I could see this being in the bottom, but not the worst look of the bunch! Her model Sian seemed pleased!

Margarita was safe and I guess of the bottom 2, this was the right decision. I didn’t love the pants, but I thought it was a cool style and really was what her model, Christina, wanted. What I didn’t like was that Margarita was quick to throw her model under the bus, making it seem as if she was too demanding. I didn’t see that as the case, but this being more of an agreed upon collaboration. I could see what the judges were saying in this being a super throwback, 80s look.

So yes, poor Samantha being out was the case. I wondered again if Tim would use his save, but I guess given her bottom 2 placement just the week before, he didn’t. It did seem that with all bottom 3 designers, their model clients were happy. This look was what Jazzmine wanted, rocker chic. But the judges were right in that this was not super fresh. Samantha even noting it as a “Lolita” dress didn’t bolster her argument. And it was the case again, that the dress she was wearing herself, was better than the look on her model.

Until next week….

Oscars After-Parties — Best Dressed!

Lots of red carpet looks make their way post-Oscars, some you might have missed, but really shouldn’t! So from all of the Oscars After-Parties, namely 2, here are the looks encapsulating the best of the best!

  • Elton John Aids Association Foundation — partners, Audi, Euro, Fiore Group, Wells Fargo, Starkey, Chopard, Viva Glam, American Airlines, Aquilini, and PinkNeuro.
  • Vanity Fair

Christina Aguilera

970c1eb7ed490905890fabf182867942b3391a29

So happy for Christina’s return to NBC’s The Voice, and really in a sense, a welcome back to the red carpet. I feel as if it’s been forever since I’ve seen her on a major red carpet. And WOW, does she not look mighty impressive! This long-sleeved, high-collared, crackle print creation by Marc Bouwer is stunning to say the least! And paired perfectly with her look, a metallic Judith Leiber clutch.

ef65b5941eeb2af1bf629fc658b78bb0a393c3f7

So Aguilera, who works with Miley Cyrus’s stylist Simone Harouche, made her gorgeous beauty look work with minimal makeup (for her) and a handful of Lorraine Schwartz baubles. Harouche posted a close-up of the gown on Instagram, which showed off the number’s sequin detailing over a layer of white mesh.

Jane Fonda

xEngOUtIBvwl

Is there anything as of late that Jane doesn’t look simply amazing in?? I mean when it comes to red carpets, she can clearly do no wrong. I think it’s safe to say Zuhair Murad was the designer for the Oscars. So many of the brand’s looks were all over the place. And Jane rocked her choice with this sheer silver embellished number. Simply mesmerizing! Paired with her look, some lovely diamond Niwaka jewelry pieces.

Odette Annable

odette-annable-2015-elton-john-aids-foundation-s-oscar-viewing-party-in-hollywood_5

I knew there was something captivating and intriguing about this look right when I saw it. Duh! It’s Monique Lhuillier, a designer who epitomizes red carpet glam and elegance. Odette picked 100% correctly here with this strapless floral appliqued gown.

odette-annable-2015-elton-john-aids-foundation-s-oscar-viewing-party-in-hollywood_6

Kudos to her glam squad — styling by @taratballz, with makeup/hair by Christine Symonds, chic updo & bold burgundy lip.

Andie MacDowell

I can personally attest to just how fabulous this Leanne Marshall plunging V-neck gown is. I just saw it about a week ago, up close and personal, at her NYFW show. This dye treatment, courtesy of Rit Dyes, is so eye-catching and stunning. Leanne has such a delicate hand and I’m happy Andie quickly recognized that and scooped this look up so quick, fresh off the runway!

Her beauty look is courtesy of L’Oreal Paris, such a bright, shining look, a glow you can’t overlook!

Nina Dobrev

1424712542_nina-dobrev-560

Nina is another gorgeous gal who can do no wrong on the red carpet in my eyes. She looks phenomenal in this dark red Reem Acra gown with lace applique and side cutouts.

She also knows how to accessorize her looks well, picking perfectly her, a bronze Lee Savage clutch and studded Christian Louboutin heels.

Eve Hewson

2015 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

Love, love this strapless gold Vivienne Westwood gown with feather embellishments adorned all over the bottom portion of the dress — such a beautiful look. To complete Eve’s look, she is also wearing a few Sylva & Cie rings.

eve-hewson-2015-vanity-fair-oscar-party-in-hollywood_4

Jessica Szohr

23rd Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party - Arrivals

Jessica looks super glamorous in this all over lace Patricia Bonaldi dress with sheer side cutouts. It has such a vintage, antique feel about it, completely entrancing. And with a few understated accessories, she has paired with her look XIV Karats jewelry.

Angie Harmon

angie-harmon-2015-vanity-fair-oscar-party-02

I feel as if I’m all about some floral #s on this best dressed list, but I just can’t help it, each and every floral piece is so unique, and so intricately detailed. I’m hooked! Angie’s strapless black Vivienne Westwood is so regal, such a luxe look for her.

Angie-Harmon_-2015-Vanity-Fair-Oscar-Party--02-300x420

Huge props to her stylist, Cristina Ehrlich. This is such a great look, no matter the angle!

angie-harmon-2015-vanity-fair-oscar-party-01

And even though you can’t see them, yes, Angie is rockin’ some killer, studded Louboutins.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley-600x900

What a super sexy look! Rosie is slaying it in this deep green Alexandre Vauthier Couture gown. It’s like liquid silk, and really, the back, intricately divine.

ZOE SALDANA

1424712635_zoe-saldana-560

Black and white has been a huge red carpet trend this award season, and Zoe clearly says why not put my own take on the trend! She looks smashing in this two-toned dress by Prabal Gurung, cinched at her already tiny waistline. She’s accessorized with statement-making Neil Lane diamonds.

Zoe-Saldana

Felicity Jones

1424712171_felicity-jones-560

Much more of a fan of this Oscars look, a black Saint Laurent gown with an embellished collar. She completed the ensemble with a white square clutch by Roger Vivier.

Jenna Dewan Tatum

1424712243_jenna-dewan-tatum-560

Jenna gets 2 nods here, pre-Oscars bash and post-Oscars afterparty. So for the afterparty, she is donning another Zuhair Murad Couture dress, showing off some sexiness with her super high slit!, Her look is accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Stuart Weitzman shoes.

10994238_679413982169585_7688984909215303463_n

Not sure of the designer details for this rose pink dress, but she has paired with it a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, truly just such a chic look!

Jenna’s glam squad team did a wonderful job here, all looks Oscars-related, Derek Peter Williams for hair; Patrick Ta for makeup, and Brad Goreski for styling.

Sofia-Vergara-600x900

Sofia Vergara

I tell you, it’s the night of Zuhair Murad, another stunning number, for Sofia, she went with this strapless ice blue embellished gown, phenomenal. Paired with her look, 1.5 million worth of Neil Lane diamonds.

And for Sofia’s beauty/makeup look, all thanks to Kayleen McAdams, cat eye and plum lip!

Adam Levine & Behato Prinsloo

adam-levine-behati-prinsloo-vanity-fair-party-01

Adam & Behati again, making for a dynamic duo, this time both in Calvin Klein, so cute with matching designers all night!. Paired with Behati’s silky nude CK dress are a few understated pieces of Norman Silverman diamonds.

“London Calling” for This Fashion Mogul

halflucidLONDONcollectionAuthor. Jewelry designer. Fashionista. Fashion Blogger. Journalist. Traveler. Writer. This in a nutshell describes the amazingly talented Kendra L. Saunders. There is of course more to say than this, and that is why I am very thrilled to introduce my Fashion Nexus readers to this creative spirit. Specifically, I am dying to show off the latest pieces for her jewelry brand, half-lucid Jewelry. Kendra was so kind to feature my fashion blog on her blog, Kendry Bird. And I am of course more than happy to support another strong woman in the fashion industry. So throughout this post, I hope you enjoy seeing the pieces for Kendra’s London Capsule Collection for half lucid Jewelry.

halflucidLONDON-3

“Camden Market” Babecatchers — multicolored tassels

Kendra was excited to travel to England. She says “England had a charismatic effect on my creativity, inspiring me to look at the world in a new way.” The materials she used to make these jewelry pieces directly hailed from her travels. The collection was inspired from 2 distinct sides of London — ” (1) the gray, foggy and beautiful colors of an evening in the city, and (2) the colorful and frequently exotic world markets.” These earrings are truly statement-making and eye-catching.

“Fox Fox Sake” Boho Swingers

halflucidforfoxsake

half lucid jewelry pieces are unique, 100% handcrafted, recycled, and/or resourced jewelry. The 2 main types of earrings are Babecatchers and Boho Swingers. Babecatchers are bold and show-stopping. They are custom-made and can be done in almost any color, and you can also choose the size of the tassels. In addition, you can further customize your danglers by incorporating ribbons or beads.

Islington’s Wings — black & white Babecatchers

Boho swingers are lighter weight earrings that are all about movement.

“Brick Lane” Boho Swingers — yellow tassels

10884717_370951313077018_751800327_n

These pieces are very one of a kind, truly stunning, very captivating. The London inspiration comes in loud and clear. I could see the pieces working well with both casual and upscale looks. These pieces would be super fun when styling a look for any occasion, day or night.

halflucidLONDON-92

So again, Kendra is a lover of many worlds. She is definitely a fellow fashionista and blogger. We connected over a mutual love of Project Runway. She has conducted many interviews with designers. Make sure to check her out across the social media spectrum — Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter.

halflucidLONDON-6

Kendra not only writes for her blog or about fashion, but she also has penned a few novels — Inanimate Objects, Death and Mr. Right, Geminis & Past Lives, and Overlapping Visions. Coming soon, The Unlove Spell and Dating an Alien Pop Star.

Snow Queen & Jack Frost Show — A Fashion Show Like No Other!!

Think about what makes a look, yes there are the clothes, but there are also shoes, accessories, and of course, make-up & hair! So with that, if you are design artist for make-up & hair, you can create an amazing show!

1455847_429843270451060_1543041678_nTawni Michelle of Dramatizon Make-Up has done just this. Tawni has over 12 years of experience with make-up design. In reaching this high level of experience, she decided to venture out on her own and start her own business. She provides make-up design, at affordable prices, for a wide variety of situations — head shots, editorial, fashion shoots, etc. You can learn more about Dramatizon on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram; handle is @dramatizon.

1482787_446568692111851_1366298327_nBut rather than sticking to the traditional format of working with apparel fashion shows and merely providing make-up, she is now making the show be about the creative make-up design. And I have to say, it’s so stunning and so phenomenal! Her latest monthly show at Sky Room NYC, Snow Queen & Jack Frost, was simply awesome. I am so glad I was able to attend. Throughout this post are the various images from the show, before, during, & after. ENJOY!!

She has over 10 years of professional hair experience and does cuts, coloring, styling, & more! You can book an appointment with her at Y Gallery, Soho/NYC, but she also does freelance work. Check her work out on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram! As you can see in the various images from the show, the work done on the models’ hair was all so intricate & detailed. I was blown away!

399256_446569035445150_1459749238_nThe models all worked lingerie/bikinis by Gigi Carnett. These looks were all so sexy and worked very well as a part of this show. The various accessories the models were wearing, crowns, necklaces, etc, were provided by Jenny Winters. It can’t be overlooked also that the head model was none other than NYC native and Big Brother 15 houseguest GinaMarie Zimmerman. I can’t tell you how starstruck I was since I love that show and rooted for this gal last summer! It was also such a pleasant surprise that another BB15 houseguest made an appearance to root for GM, Amanda Zuckerman. I hope to do a fashion feature with both of these ladies soon on Fashion Nexus!

So back to the one who put this altogether, Tawni of Dramatizon. You can’t deny how creative this work is. And the best part, this is only from 1 show. There has been so much more and will be so much more. Dramatizon’s mission is to bring the beauty, drama, flare, and FIERCENESS to everyone. The Dramatizon team can certainly do that! I can’t wait to attend another show and see more work from this team and their creative design work!
