Fifth Harmony

As per usual, the Fifth Harmony ladies looked super amazing, some super sexy, while others were ultra glam.

Camilla donned an asymmetrical black Gemy Maalouf dress with lace outlining on the trim of the bodice. Accessorizing her look were black BCBG Max Azria heels and Kendra Scott jewelry.

Dinah opted for a super luxe look, a black Phillip Plein gown, Shay jewelry, makeup by Clarissa Luna, and styling by Bobby Wesley.

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia, I mean wow, channeling all of that 90210 Clueless style by wearing a fully gold-sequined Christian Siriano gown, accessorizing with Eva Fehren and Logan Hollowell rings, and Casa Reale earrings.

Ciara

I’ve seen this dress right on the runway and happy to now seeing it being rocked by someone as sexy and gorgeous as Ciara. She is wearing a strategically embellished dress by Reem Acra, plus black Stuart Weitzman sandals.

PR Designers Go Red Carpet

So it’s that exciting time on PR, the final challenge before Fashion Week. And for this challenge, the designers traveled to the glamour capital of the world, LA, to create red carpet looks. LA and red carpets of course go hand in hand; it’s the city where the lights shine bright and the stars shine even brighter. The designers would visit L.A. to get inspired and also work there. So needless to say, the fight was on for the final 4.

pr14-ep12-episode4

Upon arrival, the designers met Tim by the Best Western hotel pool. He was alongside Tammy Lucas of Best Western. The winning designer for this challenge would receive 100 free room nights at any Best Western worldwide. The designers were off to sketch at a gorgeous home in the Hollywood Hills, a great vantage point for inspiration. Keltie Knight, The Insider correspondent, later met with the designers to encourage them to bring the drama, color, and to make sure they took risks. It was then off to Mood, the start of a 2-day challenge, with a budget of $400.

pr14-ep12-episode5

After Mood, the designers headed to their new workroom for this challenge at FIDM. Ashley was making multiple plans. Edmond was talking to his fabric, very unsure of his initial cut, while Kelly was unsure on the silhouette. As Day 2 began, Kelly was pressed for time and really needed Tim-time. With that, Tim encouraged Candice to remain flawless. He told Ashley to steer clear from over-designing. With Edmond, it was all about not being afraid — fear never conquers. And from the convo with Kelly, the direction led to that of a jumpsuit.

pr14-ep12-episode3

After Tim-time, Edmond knew it was time to cut. He stared his form down, but soon it was that time and he cut right on the form. While Edmond was in cutting woes, Kelly was on fit concern patrol. Ashley mentioned concern for Candice because she made a black dress. Although I’m 100% positive that almost every red carpet has a few black looks on the red carpet — GEEZ!

pr14-ep12-episode12

That was a wrap on the L.A. work and it was back to NYC for the runway show. Kelly’s fit concerns dwindled down and Ashley was in dire need of a strap. Edmond was on a rampage though, still shortening and cutting his look.

pr14-ep12-episode11

This week’s guest judge was Christian Siriano.

pr14-ep12-episode26

It was a bit on the safer side, but my fave look this week was Candice. The back of this dress is stunning. I could very much see it on the red carpet. Depending on the wearer, it might get more recognition, but this was certainly deserving for Candice to then go to Fashion Week.

pr14-ep12-cc

Shout-out — Gorgeous, luxe beauty, both with Mary Kay makeup & Sally Beauty hair, also, such elegant accessory choices, JustFab, the earrings!

-project-runway--sea (3)

The judges however named Kelly as the winner. And I could see why. This was a very intriguing look. I didn’t love the fit of the top portion and not such a fan of the triangular cutout, but the vision here was superb. The textile print creation was far above & beyond what anyone else did.

I wasn’t totally in love with Ashley’s gown. She had a great concept and vision, but to me, it wasn’t well-executed and that took away from the runway wow factor. The strap and top portion was definitely off.

pr14-ep12-at

Shout-outs — So chic, both with the luxe makeup Mary Kay look & blown out, wavy do by Sally Beauty

pr14-ep12-en

Edmond for sure was the one to go on this challenge — hands down! It was so obvious. This print could have done all of the work here. And in almost any other silhouette, Edmond would have been A-okay. But for him to pick this silhouette, super short and wings, I was confused. The judges were far too kind here. He was out, but of course we all knew Tim Gunn would use his save come the next episode.

Shout-out — Another great Sally Beauty updo!

PR Designers’ Broadway Inspirations

This week was all about the magic and glamour of Broadway. The designers were invited to attend the musical, Finding Neverland. And from that visit, the trip, the show, the atmosphere, it was all to serve as an inspiration for each designer to create a look. The designers were joined at the theater by Tim and star of the musical, Matthew Morrison.

pr14-ep8-episode6

So with a “sky is the limit”, 1-day challenge, and a $250 budget, the designers were off to work and to Mood (which oddly enough this season, I feel as if they haven’t been to Mood that much!). Swapnil opted for a smoke/work balance this challenge. Lindsey began her work in fear as she really did not want to land in the bottom again. Merline began her work in doubt as she was drawing a complete blank. Candice came out of the gates strong however, really wanting to own her darkness, to celebrate it and feel hope.

pr14-ep8-episode2

Tim reminded the designers that at this point in the competition, it was anyone’s game, so to remember no one is safe. He urged Swapnil to aim for the win. While others he made sure to remind them to edit. Clearly, the pressure was on!

pr14-ep8-episode9

The morning of was the usual time crunch. A lot of the designers seemed like they could be in trouble! This week’s guest judge was supermodel Coco Rocha.

pr14-ep8-episode17

The top/bottom 3 breakdown made perfect sense here. And of course, by a landslide, Candice was the clear winner. Candice always impresses me with the sheer amount of pieces she can put together in such a short amount of time. And the thing is, I very rarely see any fit or quality issues with the pieces. And to top it all off, she is not just making basic, plain, boring pieces, but rather a look that is uniquely designed and truly showcasing who she is as a designer.

-project-runw7ay--sea

Kelly put out another great, stunning look. I really feel as if she has been a dark horse this season and the other designers better watch out! I’m not sure if I’m completely in love with this look, or at least the pairing of the intricate outer pieces with the LBD. But I know one thing is that it’s hard to take my eyes off of the look! This emerald, sheer, outer piece is just so exquisite. The judges seemed to be a bit split on this as well, but compared to the actual bottom this week, this was top notch!

pr14-ep8-kd

Shout-outs — Sally Beauty, such gorgeous, wavy hair & Mary Kay, love that bold red lip!

Shout-outs — Sally Beauty, love the updo, Mary Kay, beautiful cat eye & nude lip!

-project-runw5ay--sea

The way I felt about Kelly’s look is similar to how I feel about Edmonds’. I’m not 100% in love with it, but there is still something intriguing about it. Coco was clearly not a fan, but the judges did have some positives to offer. I think the confusing part here is this outer vest — what is it, why did he make it, what is the purpose? Not sure of the answers, but the black pants and top were well made. And the look did need more than just those pieces, so I guess he thought, blob of color maybe??

-project-run3way--sea   -project-run6way--sea

Swapnil and Merline were definitely deserving of the middle, but still with okay looks. Swapnil’s look had such a disconnect for me. I didn’t love the pairing of slate grey & baby pink. And with Merline, it was very pretty, but felt more like a costume than a wearable look.

Shout-out —  Sally Beauty, love the waves!!

pr14-ep8-at

Ashley’s look was just a mess and truly, quite disappointing. My issue with this is more so that Ashley can and has done better. But when she misses, she really misses. It’s like, why so inconsistent??

Shout-out — Lovin’ these Sally Beauty hair looks this week!

-project-runway--sea

Laurie has had some highlights for me earlier on this season, but a very slow decline the past week or so. I’m just not sure what happened here. It seems as if there is no direction and the fabric choice, very mind boggling!

Another gorgeous Sally Beauty updo!

-project-r2unway--sea

But for the judges, they saw at least some design and ideas with Laurie. On the other hand, for Lindsey, it was just not enough. Her look did have a pretty color, but there was not a lot here in terms of design. It was kind of basic. Lindsey’s aesthetic is very minimalist, which is hard to make work on PR. And if you do go the minimalist route, it has to be done so well. That was the case here. So with a few constant bottom placements, Lindsey was sadly out.

NYFW — The Stunners!

Amazing set of stunning designers who presented stunning collections, whether it be thru elegant evening wear or imaginative RTW.

Libertine

Libertine RTW Spring 2016  Libertine RTW Spring 2016

Johnson Hartig is one of those designers who can find inspiration in anything, adapting disparate themes to his signature psychedelic aesthetic. His DIY approach to high-end streetwear design reimagines vintage fabrics into eccentric production-ready pieces. His Libertine collections could easily veer into the tacky, but the explosion of color, pattern-play and embellishments changes that up!

Libertine RTW Spring 2016   Libertine RTW Spring 2016

For women, there was plenty of kitsch — neon chains, beaded fringe, bedazzled teeth, patchwork utensils with dangling spaghetti fringe, etc.— the list goes on. His collection of daytime separates screamed youthful, with bright colors and tailored mix-and-match separates. I’m always excited to see the Libertine show — it’s  a vibrantly rich collection, jam-packed into a high energy show.

Libertine RTW Spring 2016    Libertine RTW Spring 2016

Men’s looks included a disco-ball tracksuit, animal-print sweatpants and amoeba-patterned sweatshirts. With inspiration ranging from Staffordshire dogs to molecular cell research interpreted in fluorescent colors, the men’s lineup was fun and eccentric!

Stella Nolasco

Stella-Nolasco-SS16-033    Stella-Nolasco-SS16-032

Stella Nolasco’s S/S 2016 collection, “POMAROSA”, is inspired by the decadent beauty of the poetry of Jose de Diego, a turn of the century Puerto Rican poet, born in Stella’s hometown. Layers of tulle, lace, and sheer fabrics add movement and give life to gowns that flow with the grace of poetry, floating transparently over the runway. Seeing each breathtaking piece come down the runway I was constantly in awe, thinking ok, this look is stunning, the best of the best, can it get any better?!? And with this collection, Stella was able to prove me wrong. Every look that continued to come down the runway had it’s own individual magic, keeping me awestruck from start to finish!

Stella-Nolasco-SS16-024   Stella-Nolasco-SS16-023

The richly embroidered dresses, in colors varying from black to blush, yellow, plum rose (Pomarosa, in various tones), evoke the gentility of a bygone era with a daring, modern turn exemplified by plunging necklines. A sheer, almost lingerie-like quality of the dresses maintains an air of romanticism and whimsicality. Stella Nolasco’s charm and metropolitan sensibility render her designs modern, stylish and edgy. Consequently, she has earned a reputation as Puerto Rico’s most avant-garde designer. Her designs exude elements of both vintage nostalgia, and sophisticated modernity.

Stella-Nolasco-SS16-022   Stella-Nolasco-SS16-011

Stella is a household name in Puerto Rico, where her work receives near constant media coverage. Stella’s line has been featured at luxury department store, Neiman Marcus, amongst other prestigious retailers.

Stella attended the Atmosphere show at Paris fashion week and subsequently was picked up by famous European department store, Gerard Darel, along with international boutiques around the world including Sauce (Dubai), Style (Kuwait), Les Princesses (Paris), Studio Facts (Japan), Lorenzina (Spain), amongst others.

Stella-Nolasco-SS16-007   Stella-Nolasco-SS16-006

Stella’s designs have been worn celebrities including Beyonce Knowles (on the cover of Seventeen Magazine), Actress Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes) and Actress Cote de Pablo (NCIS), to name a few.

After her successful presentation at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week in September of 2014, Nolasco has enjoyed various new opportunities, including the experience of dressing the actress Juliette Lewis, who attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and was selected among the best dressed of the night by several fashion critics. Recently, Stella collaborated with the Hollywood actor and fashion designer, John Malkovich, for his clothing line “Technobohemian” at their fashion show in Puerto Rico.

Michael Costello

_DSC2740-Edit  _DSC3056-Edit

Inspired by feminine decadence, Costello is merging his bold shapes with a softer and sweeter color palate. “This collection has more movement, leaving more to the imagination,” according to Costello. “It evokes the sexiness of a tight dress with the draping of an elegant gown.” For me, these looks perfectly encapsulated classic glam with a edgy, sexy vibe — not going too far, but pushing the boundaries just enough!
Gaining recognition as both a brand and designer, Costello chose this collection to unveil brighter gem tones, using the body as contrast. “These dresses make women feel desired and unforgettable,” according to Costello. There was a lot of great color in this collection, everything from bold tones in bright yellow to forest green, subtle hues in nude and soft pink, and beautiful floral prints.
Michael Costello is a fashion designer based out of Los Angeles, CA, building his brand around elegant and sexy silhouettes. After becoming a finalist on Project Runway, Costello has gone on to design memorable creations for celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears and is known for designing Beyoncé’s iconic 2014 Grammy gown, which is on display at the Grammy Museum. Michael’s designs have also been featured in countless editorials for International fashion publications including Vogue Italia, Elle and Marie Claire.

Some Glitz & Glam at NYFW!

There is nothing wrong with a little glitz and glam, right! Check out these next designers who recently presented at fashion week in NY, all who held nothing back in terms of shimmer, shine, & sparkle!

For S/S 2016, Idan was inspired by the ocean, with both his color palette and discernible seashell motif. A varied collection of mainly eveningwear looks were rendered in seafoam green, pale blue, coral and nude, with shell appliques and beaded shell shapes appearing on most looks. The intricate details on each look really made for such a vision with these pieces, all very mesmerizing.

APPLIQUÉD FLOWER COAT OVER PETITE FLOWER MINI DRESS

For Spring/Summer 2016, Laurel DeWitt pushes open a door in her ever-evolving craft, revealing a lush, romantic fantasy world brimming with the promise of new life and the possibility of a world beyond. Striking a distinct 1930s note taking colorful cue from Elsa Schiaparelli, Ms. DeWitt’s current collection débuts not only a deeply hued array of elegant separates — introducing shagreen, leather, and fabric lacing to her already complex repertoire — but also doses the collection with metal flowers, entirely hand-cut, hand-rolled, and hand-painted to create a stunning display of incredible appliqué work rivaled by few in its detail and labor.

FLOWER SHOULDER-PIECE OVER BUTTERFLY CAPE + METAL FLOWER BRA +   METAL APPLIQUÉD LEATHER WRAP SHORTS

Spring/Summer pioneers two new accessory categories for the designer: Eyewear and Millinery, where meticulous metal work on a smaller scale is of remark. In her world, dimension is best when juxtaposed, and Ms. DeWitt conflates these tiny techniques against the generous, tulip-like curves of a ballgown’s skirting, or the wide, preciseswoop of a structured cape, evocative of the scaled breadth of a butterfly.

KIAMcC3ltOMzrKXBQDDEP721_kA1hSQrvDAaOfIEtFc

Also of note are the wasp-waists and draped contours of the late 1940s New Look, reflected in the slim bodices and grand red carpet gowns which, though made of metal, reminisce a fluttery, petaled lightness. Like the two aforementioned legends above, Ms. DeWitt is also self-taught, but in the craft of metal mastery. With fashion at top of mind – wearable, elegant clothing with metal at its core – this season’s soft spectacle lays witness to a collection of eternal flowers, of heirlooms for life.

As for her hair, here are the details from Ryan Richman for L’Oreal Paris — “Sarah’s Zac Posen gown was sleek and elegant. I like to do the opposite with the hair so opted for a messy tousled wave. I’ve been doing Sarah’s hair for about two years now, so the challenge is to do something I’ve never done before. I have done her hair wavy countless times but never quite like this. This texture shows off her amazing cut and color as well,” he says.

Step 1: First, Ryan prepped damp hair by spraying a generous amount of L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Blow Out Heat Spray, focusing at the root. He used a wide-toothed comb to distribute product throughout the hair and create a deep side part.

Step 2: Using a blow-dryer and his fingers, Ryan rough-dried the roots until halfway dry. He picked up a medium boar bristle round brush to finish drying each section, being careful not to oversmooth the hair, for added volume and a little natural texture.

Step 3: He then used a 1-inch flatiron on medium heat to create a tousled wave, spraying L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold on each section before curling, and holding the flat iron vertically facing the clamp down. In a fluid motion, he twisted the iron and pushed downward to create a loose beachy wave. Ryan alternated directions of the wave as he moved throughout the hair for a beautiful tousled-texture result.

Step 4: Next, Ryan rubbed a small amount of L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Txt It Hyper-Fix Putty into the palms of his hands. Focusing at the root, he worked the product through the hair roughly.

Step 5: Last, he used a bobby pin to secure the small side of the part behind Sarah’s ear and misted more hairspray all over the hair to lock in the style.

NYFW — All Kinds, All Means

Commentary also by Guest Blogger Kendra Saunders

The great thing about #NYFW is not just seeing so much, but it’s seeing so much thru a variety of a means. In my 1st Fashion Week recap, I’m showcasing a film premiere party, presentations, afterparties, and showroom visits. During New York Fashion Week, you really do it all! This season was an impressive one for Fashion Nexus and Bellus Magazine, for which I am the NYC Editor. I was invited to 80 shows — the highest # ever. There was no way I would be able to attend all of these events, runways, and presentations. But thanks to a great effort from some amazing individuals who joined my team as guest bloggers and writers, Fashion Nexus & Bellus Magazine attended 68 of these 80 events. WOW!

So in addition to my coverage for this 1st NYFW recap, Kendra Saunders is on board with some commentary and imagery! First up, the NYC premiere of the fashion documentary “Inside Amato”.

Inside Amato by Furne One

inside amato furne one film

This fashion documentary, directed by Rocco Lee Gaglioti, takes its audience on a fashionable journey with Furne One, going from concept to a collection as presented on a dramatic runway. This film presents the pressures and struggles presenting a high fashion runway collection. It is a very accurate portrayal of the face of the fashion. Rocco Leo Gaglioti brings the admiration of Furne One, while uncovering intimate moments and creative genius.

photo with Director Rocco Lee Gaglioti

Furne One launched in 2002 and was immediately a hit with the elite. This fashion has been seen on the red carpet from the Golden Globes, Oscars, and more. His fashion has dressed Beyonce, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Nicole Scherzinger, and Amber Rose to name a few.

12042738_10206681231804785_8866415122973476194_n

The documentary was very insightful and it was a true joy for anyone with a passion for fashion. The event was a smashing success, a huge crowd at The Liberty Theater in Times Square. I was very thankful to grab a few minutes with the director, Rocco Lee Gaglioti, on the red carpet. For such a momentous occasion he was truly excited for this opportunity and was near speechless, truly overjoyed!

O2nd Showroom

O2nd showroom takes its clientele on a journey of contradiction, an engagement of a dreamer and a pragmatist. All elements of design are created and driven by a mood, an experience, a purpose. It’s a collage of purposeful clothing with a talent to re-invent classics thru a modern lens.

IMG_20150909_110451_033

For Spring 2016, the collection infuses light, pastel color palettes into silhouettes defined by creative lines and simplicity.

IMG_20150909_110514_202

Kendra, was on board reporting here!

“Despite the miserable heat in Manhattan on Tuesday, things inside the O2 Showroom were super cool (and not just because they had AC!) The clothes being presented to us are the epitome of minimalist, laid-back style. The pieces felt timeless and ageless as well, incorporating a few little details (like a standout piece with a Peter pan collar) that added just a tad bit of retro flair. All in all, it was a really fun, upbeat little event, and I loved the set up of the room!”

Brand Assembly

It was a pleasure stopping by the new showroom for BA. Brand Assembly’s core business is to nurture and elevate emerging design talent by providing the infrastructure and guidance needed to launch and grow successful brands.

Malan’s NYFW wrap party, a gathering to benefit a cancer organization, was a huge success!! The event was held at the Hudson Hotel. Sound Affects was the charitable organization being benefited on this evening and to do so, Malan auctioned off 2 dresses, one being a recent finale gown from his recent NYFW showing, to support the cause. More than $10,000.00 in donations were received.

Designer Teneice B.

Kendra attended this designer presentation. In interviewing Teneice, the designer said she was inspired to share her message thru graphic tees. She is all about the empowerment of young girls.

Plain Tee Blue Jean is the tangible extension of a complete lifestyle brand. The brand is not only the designer’s go-to fashion choices but the phrases you see are her version of highlightable book passages that she never got to write.

These two tees above are faves of the designers’ from this recent collection!
