I originally wrote this piece when Spring Breakers first premiered, but it was never published. I really enjoyed gathering the various pictures for this piece, and writing about these fashionable young ladies and the garments they selected to help in premiering this bold film. I still wanted to share this piece with my readers so I hope you all enjoy!
Director Harmony Korine debuted, a couple of months back, the film “Spring Breakers”, which stars some very young and talented lead actresses-Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. This film was depicted as quite raw and very much of an “adult-type” film, which far differed from most of the bodies of work for the respective actresses. As these ladies were broadening their roles as actresses, they were also developing their own personal styles on the red carpet premieres for the movie.
Most of these actresses are no strangers to the red carpet, however, right before the public’s very eyes, they were discovering more about what styles work for them on the red carpet. Each lady is dictating what fashion choices they feel best represent them as they are transitioning from tweens to young women! Here is the rundown on nicknames I have given to each and a little about their recent fashion ensembles!
Vanessa Hudgens-“The Risk-taker”
Vanessa’s style over the years has transitioned from flirty and fun to boho-chic and now a fashion risk-taker. This can certainly be seen in the 1st picture with a bold and black Naeem Khan gown, which is a mix of feathers galore and a tribal-like influence. In the next photo, Vanessa chose to show her conservative side with a floral print Blumarine cocktail dress that showcases a black lace overlay on the neckline. Another bold choice for Vanessa, also Naeem Khan, was the colorful and flirty multi-colored gown where she was clearly not afraid to show some leg with the very popular thigh-high split trend. She can also go super glam, as she did in the 4th photo wearing a Temperley London gown, in ivory and gold shimmer, which has a deep-V neckline. Moving onto Vanessa’s next choice, a very flower-crazed uniquely shaped gown by Rafael Cennamo. Probably the least risky is this medium purple draped Marchesa gown, but Vanessa still looks gorgeous. Vanessa rocked the same thigh high split trend in this immaculate firecracker red Julien Macdonald gown, which is heavily shimmered across the bodice. All in all, Vanessa is demonstrating not only her growth in cinema, but in her personal style, which is alluring and with a nod to taking bold fashion risks.
Selena Gomez-“The Disney Darling No More”
Selena, while only 20, is showing no issue with growing and maturing, in both fashion and cinema choices. She is going from young and flirtatious frocks to more elegant and sophisticated options that truly showcase the young woman Selena is becoming. First, look at the deep V-necked black and gold suit by Versace-Atelier. Then there is the cream-colored fitted strapless gown, also by Versace Atelier, and another really mature look for this young lady, but she certainly wears it well! Another look that is still mature fashion, while playing a bit to her youthful side, is the teal Gucci mini. It shows a little side cleavage, but is styled very refined with this elegant up-do. Selena also wows in the full length black gown by Dolce & Gabbana, which is also fitted and corseted. Selena is a bit more bold with her selection of the red full length gown by Reem Acra, which has side laced cut-outs and a shimmered-sheer deep-V neckline. Selena also selected a captivating choice in this grey Marchesa, which is very nicely draped in a cascade tulle skirt in an oyster illusion with scale-like embroidery. Finally, there is the black and gold Dolce, another tasteful and conservative choice that still portrays such great fashion choices with the length, fringe and beautiful sheer effect. Selena’s choices are certainly showing how she is growing up and I look forward to her next choices!
Ashley Benson-“The Classic SuperGlam”
What I am seeing with Ashley is someone who loves classic silhouettes, but with a modern nod, and also no fear with going super glamorous. Shimmer and shine and full length gowns are always classic choices and Ashley does just that with this full length metallic gold gown. Another stunner is this royal blue Alberta Ferretti, which encompasses very classic fashion choices in columns, beaded details and the gown’s shape. Classic does not mean there is no room for showing cleavage, which is what Ashley does in her classic long black gown with a keyhole cutout that is designed by Amit GT. Black and gold, a shimmery full length gold bottom with a fitted black top, by Dolce & Gabbana, all create this glamour number. In her next look Ashley was a bit more conservative, but still with classic choices of sharp and clean lines in this solid bone colored cocktail dress. Ashley then plays with a tiered effect full length gown in a rose pink color by Alberto Franci. Ashley did shorten the length up with her white floral Armani dress with a halter neckline. Finally, Ashley chooses to rock another classic black gown and does so with Tadashi Shoji, a gown that is filled with many classic fashion elements such as sheer, lace, key-hole cutout and draped effects.
Rachel Korine-“The Newbie”
Rachel Korine is very much new to the scene and red carpet. This is certainly evident from her wide array of styles she has worn on the red carpet and specifically for these premieres. I do certainly give her props for some great choices and look forward to seeing how she works on evolving her style. Shorter lengths seems to be her main go-to, but I do love this golden yellow long gown she selected for one of the premieres, which is draped beautifully. She has demonstrated she can certainly work with major trends in cutouts with lace effect (1st photo, black knee-length by Lover), or color-blocking (2nd photo, M-Missoni knee-length dress). I admire her boldness in going with a great print if she sees fit whether it be floral (4th photo) or hearts (5th photo)! And finally, Rachel shows a step up by also rocking this fuchsia, lacy Dolce & Gabbana knee-length dress (3rd photo). As I said, her fashion choices are very much all over the place, but that does not take away from some amazing selections she has made. Good work!
