So for Agentry PR & Cadillac’s NY Menswear Day, this is # 2 of 7, Carlos Campos & his Fall 2014 presentation. This collection is inspired by “the rugged romanticism of the Gaucho, reinterpreted for the modern world.” The inspiration is all about the vast Pampas of South America. In this region, generations of strong, honest, & silent men on horses tamed their lands. They were immortalized in Guiraldes poems and are now part of the story told thru this collection.
Campos says, “This season, I set out to imagine the cowboy of tomorrow: a modern take on the masculine icon of the Gaucho, influenced by the wonders of future fantasy, the colors of deep space, and the precision of uniform dress.” These elements and concepts can certainly be seen throughout this collection, from the cuts of the blazers to the imaginative prints.
The vivid geometric prints, which are utilized on ultra-soft synthetic textiles, are certainly eye-catching. But one can’t overlook the immaculate outerwear in this collection – the poncho-inspired sweatshirts, wool trenches, & leathers — and they take shape with innovative lines & spacious silhouettes. The collection is about creating a modern take and updating a classic South American style, creating a modern cowboy, and Campos’ mission is accomplished!
Campos is known for his subtle design cues & tailoring and this season his top-notch skills are no different! His talented eye for the fall can be seen in his streamlined color palette of navy and white, and the feature of unique prints, inspired by the Gaucho’s trusty horse, artfully placed on wovens and shirting. Campos adds, “Through the interplay of lines, colors, and construction I want to communicate a rugged and modern look for the Gaucho riding on the Pampa of tomorrow.”
I always look for versatility in a collection, an ability to mix & match and for that, you need lots of separates. Carlos had done a phenomenal job with that and you can see that so many of these pieces would work well with a wide variety of other pieces within the collection.
